      You cant use stp in modern engines with catalytic converters as the zink-content destroys the catalytic converters.
      Stp is pure snake oil. Use it to silence noisy lifters and reduce oil consumption on old cars before you sell it...
      Putting it in en engine that requires thin oil you will also loose horsepower. For VVT its disasterous.

    I am about 300 miles in since I changed my oil and added this product. I have a 2008 Nissan Altima with 225,000 mi. It did greatly reduce if not eliminate some clattering I use to hear. So far I haven't had any issues. I haven't observed any dripping since I added this product, but I haven't looked very closely. I wasn't intending for this product to stop my oil drip, but rather help with clattering. And so far so good.

      @@ramonmorales9646 my only observation, and I can't prove that using this product caused this, is that I had a clog of sludge in my engine oil coolant (where coolant circulates behind the oil filter to cool the oil). I had to pull it all off and remove all that sludge. My assumption is that this product loosened lots of sludge and it caused a stoppage at the engine oil coolant component and the pressure compromised the o-ring. After cleaning it out and replacing the o- ring ($11 and 2 hours), it's fine now.

    My dad showed me something way back. He heated up the STP before putting in the car by setting it in water on the stove, I do it in the microwave now with the lid off of course and it pours in just like regular oil. The heat of an engine does the same thing when the oil is hot or warm it thins the STP out. I'm sure it's a little thicker on start up but once it warms up it flows. Good Stuff !!!😀

      Im curious about what oil wt and brand were you using/have you used to obtain those results? And what is your oil change interval?
      Lastly, did you try any other products for the oil consumption issue? Ive used STP before (the synthetic one) and I didnt notice a significant improvement.
      For reference, I just changed the oil on my 78k 2017 Hyundai Sonata 2.4L today. I filled it with Quaker State Ultimate Protection (Full Synthetic) 5W30 and am using a Hyundai OEM oil filter. At its worst, my car was consuming 1qt per 500 miles. I was using QS Full Synthetic High Mileage. Ive replaced the PCV and changed plugs but nothing helped. I then tried Amsoil Signature Series 5W30 and their engine flush back in april. The oil consumption with that fill saw the least consumption, about 1qt per 1000 miles, so a good improvement, but I want more. Not to mention, I can't be sure if the Amsoil SS or flush did more to reduce consumption.
      Your results are nothing short of shocking to me. I know this was a long reply but I hope you see this and can get back to me asap! Thank you in advance

    Hey I wanted to say I've been using the STP high milage oil additive with mobile 1 high milage extended performance for a number of reasons . All of which have not shown any signes of damage to my engine thus far. . 2012 Grand Cherokee with 112k. I use this mainly because my oil gets a lot of fuel dropped in it. Chrysler says this direct fuel injection system on the grand Cherokee is notorious for allowing fuel into the crankcase after the vehicle rests if not coming to normal operating temps and this happens 2x per day, to and from work less than 6 miles from home. Also the included detergents keep my oil cleaner longer while the zzdp additive can't be a bad thing. Oil 10/30 full synthetic. Sometimes adding ATF not dextron or Merconjust ATF with high amounts of complex detergents which keep motor oil that much cleaner longer as well.

    I personally used the STP oil treatment with Stop Leak in my 17-year old son's a 2010 Honda Accord with 90,000 miles on it which takes 5W-20 synthetic blend per Honda. The reason for trying it was because it was using a 1/2 quart of oil every 500 miles. There were no external oil leaks whatsoever and no indication of oil contaminating engine coolant. It made absolutely no difference with respect to oil consumption, the issue was discovered within first 2,000 miles after buying it from a local used car dealer which offered a 3-month/3,000 mile powertrain warranty. The used car dealer which also employs (6) ASE-certified mechanics performed an oil consumption test and confirmed that it was using an excessive amount of oil - waiting for the company that handles their warranty claims to determine what they are going to do to address the situation. Additionally, the used car dealer/repair shop took an oil sample from engine at my request and I sent it out to an independent lab for analysis. Other than the anti-wear agents - e.g. ZDDP being near the high end of the range there was nothing else of any signifcance reported so the prevailing theory is piston rings/cylinder scoring?

    That's exactly as thick as Lucas oil stabilizer is in the cold, its honestly pretty thick when its warm also. I recently gave lucas a try on my 02 Nissan V6. I have a slight valve tic only on cold starts for 5 years(ever since I've owned it) only does it for about 3 or 4 seconds at most. Seems better after a fresh oil change for several days(I change my oil religiously every 3,000. The Lucas has made little difference if at all. Now that it's getting colder out I'm going to change my oil soon and not re add the Lucas.( I have other vehicles I've been driving more latly since the cold hit). The oil additives have me worried with how thick they are, not only because of the cold weather but I figure it could cause build up and sludge possibly. I havnt tested it yet, but I'm curious to mix some oil in a clear cup(say 5w30) with a stabilizer like this stp or lucas and leave it out over night in the cold a few days and see if it separates or see what it might do. Maybe nothing🤔.. but its had me curious.

    These are basics in viscosity he’s showing, it’s apparent the people who don’t understand his point of the viscosity change is most important and it’s to the point. High pressure/high HP engines where viscosity is crucial to the performance AND protection of the motor could cause some serious problems. Think about it like this, if your motor was designed for a 0w20 and you put a 20w50 into it, what would happen? The pressure of the heavier oil will force itself onto the internal parts and put pressure onto the whole system itself and when that pressure becomes too much for the motor, it’s going to give at the weakest point which is a gasket typically, lots of other things could fail …this was just an example causing failure Good basic video.. thanks for sharing. Even if the engine warms up, the thicker oil WILL still be thicker then the oil it’s going into.. basic mechanics 101
    It’s like putting lithium grease into a wheel bearing lol you just don’t do it.. why? Because of the VISCOSITY and other natural characteristics it has.
    With all that said, does that mean it’s bad for your engine? Ask the manufacturer? Is it a good product? For sure! STP products are great! Like he said do your research and even ask the car manufacturer he’s not hating on anything. Clean those ears of yours.

    It stops leakage as well? My engine is dropping oil after driving, as the oil gets thin. Pls reply

    Thanks for the warning! I have a bottle of STP on its way from the U.K currently as it's no longer sold in Australia, my car makes a bad rattle type sound but only on the first start each day then it's fine. I think it is dry starting and it's the lifters rattling (from what others have told me, I'm not mechanical) I bought the STP as I thought it may help.
    My car is a 2008 Holden Commodore (6cylinder) which I believe was sold in the U.S as a Pontiac G6 or possibly a G8? ( I'm unsure but I think the G8 would be the v8?) would STP be safe to use in that car? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance guys. I wrote to STP and they were less than useless.

    What about Marvel Mystery Oil? Will it clean out a engine from sludge around the piston ring lands?

    • @JohnSmith-xx1lx
      @JohnSmith-xx1lx 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it will clean out the sludge and also acts as a lubricant, but this video is about sealing the engine.

      Mix 1/2Quart of MMO with 1/2 Quart of STP synthetic oil treatment.......and viola....the best oil additive ever ! CLeans , seals and lubricates. been doing it for years on my bmws. zero leaks !

    Today's engines aren't what they used to be. Mine has cam phasers that rely on oil having a predictable viscosity and oil flow. I just use straight synthetic for best performance.

    What about for a turbo that has (most likely a turbo seal leak) that produces smoke once everything is optimal temp. No smoke during startup for about 10mins though.

    If You add it to a 5w-30, the oil Will become a 15w-40 because of the thickness i use it un My 258 i6 engine and My 350 V8 engine i don't recomiend it for modern engines ✌🏻😎

    Would be wary of using that product in any variable timed engine __and__ any engine using a catalytic converter (Zinc is known to kill catalytics).

  • @rlbnll123
    @rlbnll123 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’m so confused about using these. I bought STP synthetic oil treatment for my 2022 accord sport SE but I’m afraid of putting such a viscous oil into the engine since my engine does call for 0w-20 due to the turbo in the car. What do you guys think? Can I add this treatment into the engine?

    • @Dick_Swinger
      @Dick_Swinger 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I personally wouldn't. Shouldn't hurt the turbo but not sure what effect changing oil viscosity would have on the variable valve timing as it is controlled by oil pressure

    I just added this to my 2014 4.3l silverado. Now my oil gauge maxes out with hard acceleration.
    I changed the oil immediately after noticing this, unfortunately after the oil change my oil pressure still goes through the roof when I step on it..

    Who are you? Why ate we to believe your one opinion. You didn't explain why it's dangerous for your engine. You didn't describe your credibility as a source? I could through a mechanic uniform on with patches on with my name stitched and do the same role, with more believable credibility.

    I bought a bottle and stopped pouring after one little cap full when I saw how thick and sticky it was. Will not put another drop of that crap in my Toyota vvti engine. Seems like more of a stop leak product than a cleaner. Might work for some cars but I'm gonna opt not to trust it in my 2AR-FE.

  • @banger881
    @banger881 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    STP is most likely owned by autozone and its only sold there if you have high mileage car like 150k or 200k miles and over you should be using synthetic blend not full synthetic to protect the engine if it's leaking oil or burning oil otherwise the engine seals are going to leak more with synthetic oil whenever you see high mileage on a bottle remember it's going to be slightly different viscosity.
