Nope you don’t know that for sure. The only reason Baldur was even after them was because Odin told him that he would find the cure by killing them but after he was cured he was only fighting Kratos and Atreus in the heat of the moment. The one he truly wanted to kill was Freya and I’m sure he wouldn’t have went after Kratos if Freya let him kill her and get his vengeance.

I think that on the one year anniversary of the game's release, they had an update for the game which gave people some sort of new background for a menu screen. It showed Atreus and Kratos in a boat and there were runes on the side of it. When someone translated the runes it read "Ragnarok is coming," so when the next game is announced I imagine it will be titled God of War: Ragnarok.

  • @Kleigen

7:25 Those scars really brings memories from yore. And seeing them now... It's just wow.
Fimbulwinter is a prelude of Ragnarok, as they mentioned, where many crude winters will come and families and friends will torn apart each, according to the myth.
When you end the Valkyries sidequests, you'll know something else Mimir will tell you when you go one more time through the Roots of Yggdrasil.
Congrats for finishing the story of this incredible game, Lite. Hoping to see which games you're gonna try in the future. If you wish some suggestions, I can recommend you some others to try :)
Good luck with your next videos.

Kratos was able to shake off guilt by reconciling himself and accepting himself and his past. In the first part of the game, when he cuts down the tree and releases his bandages, it is a clear example that he wants to keep his past hidden, that he is ashamed of it, which is the same as being ashamed of himself. maybe this also made him sad. but in the end, when he leaves his arms exposed without bandages. this is an example that I accept his past, I let it go. therefore he reconciled himself to himself. the game is also the internal conflict of kratos. journey that we also experience. sorry im not native speaker in English.😅

Mimir’s story he was telling about himself was to tell you that he’s from Scotland (as if the accent wasn’t obvious enough) and that he was Robin Goodfellow/ “Puck” from Celtic stories and the king he served was King Oberon. Remember when visiting Tyr’s vault, you saw Tyr’s treasure room with gifts people of all cultures gave him from Native Americans to Egyptians to Celtic. All cultures religion beliefs all existence in the GoW Universe and are only separated by geography and the countries they reside in.

I don't know about you but I came to a sinister theory.
We know the markings that appear on the spots where we can climb are Faye's. We know she took the journey before us and saw and knew what was going to happen beforehand. We know she was the guardian of the last Jotnar in Midgard and went to Brok and Sindri for the power to protect her people, and from this came the Leviathan Axe, a weapon that was made to match the might of the hammer that destroyed her kind in the hands of Thor and Odin.
I think Faye was and is using Kratos as a pawn.
At the end of the game we learn a number of things from both Jotunheim and the return to Midgard.
    - Faye had an argument with the giants before she left, in the mural it seems that they're pleading with her not to go trough with a plan.
-Faye did have a plan "If she had a plan for us, I trust it" - Atreus.
    - That plan includes Kratos and Atreus reaching Jotunheim
    - Something we've always known, the giants absolutely despise Odin and the rest of the gods.
    - Though they were eventually able to figure out his story, for the longest time Kratos was an outlier, and had no place in the future the giants had predicted.
    - Baldur's death would be the sign that Ragnarök is coming
    - Lastly and most importantly Ragnarök is happening earlier than foretold. Brok and Sindri mention this when you're returning to Midgard and is snowing.
After compiling all of these facts, the story fell into place for me. Faye's hatred for the gods and lust for vengeance has reached critical mass. She wanted them all dead, and she knew that Ragnarök would eventually do the job. But how many more would have to suffer while she waited for that to happen?
Then came Kratos, the outlier whose fate hadn't yet been set in stone by the giants. At that moment the plan became clear. She would use this man unbound by fate to father Loki/Atreus much earlier than destiny intended. Atreus and Kratos would cause Baldur's death and Ragnarök would kick off, centuries earlier than intended. The gods would meet their end. The giants tried to stop her as this would create a massive wrench into the prophesied future but she ignored them.
What this means is that when all is said and done Faye, the wife and mother that Kratos and Atreus spend the entire game complimenting
and honoring (the only thing they can agree on is how loving she was
and how much they loved her) was always on a quest for vengeance. She married Kratos in the name of vengeance. She gave birth to Atreus in the name of vengeance. She sent them on a dangerous quest in the name of vengeance. I'm sure she really did love them, but their life as a family exists solely so that Faye could kill the gods. And the most tragic part of all of this is that Kratos spends much of the game talking about how vengeance is a fool's errand and only bad things can come from it. And he knows better than anyone, as he himself went on a quest for vengeance against all gods of his home. The only time he takes the initiative to defend someone or act unselfishly towards someone who isn't Atreus is when he kills Baldur to save Freya and end Baldur's quest to take revenge on his mother. Faye led them to Jotunheim not just to see the prophecy, but so they could see first-hand the desolation that Odin caused and perhaps emphatize with her motives. Lust for revenge is something Kratos does not tolerate and no longer has any patience for. However, a lust for vengeance is the foundation his entire family was built on. His wife his son,his journey, all birthed from one woman who would do anything to achieve the goal that Kratos himself once had:to take vengeance on the gods.
Faye used Kratos and Atreus to trigger Ragnarök early, thereby taking her revenge on the gods. This is tragic as it means Kratos was just a pawn in her schemes for revenge, especially since Kratos spends much of the game talking shit abou vengeance having learned from his past mistakes and takes it upon himself to kill Baldur to end his quest for needless revenge. This would give the moment between Kratos and Athena immense weight.
Athena: "You will always be a monster"
Kratos : "I know, but I am YOUR monster no longer.
He thought he was escaping his past and being someone's monster but at the end of the day he unwittingly ended up becoming Faye's monster.

This God of War was actually the first of the series I ever played. I am however aware on how Kratos looked in the earlier games and I'll admit, he looked goofy lol. I really like how they aged him, gave him an awesome beard and made him big and jacked. But about Odin, it's clear that he's trying to control or itleast prolong his fate. He knows that with everything he's done, his fate will catch up to him eventually. That's why he's desperately trying to gain all information of past, present and future.

There are a some theories of who the "Guardian" is. One is that Faye is the Guardian, she remained in Midgard and now that she (her ashes) has returned to Jotunheim the Giants can return. Word that Gods grow good could describe Kratos and Atreus/Loki or either one of them could be the champion the Giants are waiting on. The doom of the indestructible could refer to Baldur. I've heard Tyr could be the Guardian though too. I think I even heard that Mimir could be the Guardian, because he literally was guarding the way to Jotunheim. Not revealing that there could be a path, despite the fact that Odin would torture him. But as soon as Kratos and Atreus asked about a way to Jotunheim, he had ideas where to go.

And I like how they used Atreus then Mimir to not just backstory for the game but they also teach you little bits and pieces of Norse mythology. And, generally Odin, Thor, & the Aesir gods are depicted as good guys, though the devs wanted to do that differently. Granted, that youtuber who talks about and teaches Norse mythology said something about Thor that let's just is unsavory (due to different things being accepted as normal or ok in society by those that believe in Odin and the other Norse gods back in the day).

You should look up Loki on the Internet, because it didn't seem you knew that character before.

Man……mimir is so funny, when kratos lets go of the past i cried a bit too. Yeah the ending is very touching, the relationship between the kid, who is Loki, and kratos is so moving. I am so looking forward to the sequel.
Man It's so hard to choose between this and red dead 2 for game of the year.
