I’m pretty sure CA/GW cited Cobol Yu’s Grand Cathay concepts as an influence back then - in any case it predated their designs for Cathay. Same thing should happen with Cobol Yu’s Khuresh art
Maybe the Snakemen are some sort of specialized lizardmen breed that spawn only in pools inside of modern khuresh and some time ago, the pools got corrputed by vampirism? Only if they have no chaos connection, of course.

How I believe the fan project has created some lore for them is how I personally tend to hope CA does it: Snakemen were once one with the Lizardmen as creations of the Old Ones. When the Old Ones died/fled/ whatever happened to them, and their lizard/snake creations started to lose control of the world to the humans, elves, etc., the Snakemen found themselves isolated from the rest of the Lizardmen. One where the Lizardmen look towards a Great Plan to bring their beloved Old Ones back to fix the world, and one where they resent and hate the Old Ones for abandoning them and wish to kill them if they ever returned (as well as their lacky Lizardmen servants). Snakemen, like Lizardmen, cannot be corrupted by Chaos, but they've corrupted themselves with their burning passions of seething hatred. They are a neutral force of evil when compared to Chaos/Chaos-aligned groups, just like how the Lizardmen are a neutral force for good when compared to humans, elves, dwarves, etc.

With them eventually genocided in Lustria, but a stalemate in the Southlands due few Saurus there) and a snake victory in Khuresh So not just corrupted Lizardmen, but innovative Lizardmen who felt betrayed for doing their job and rejected Old Ones Then they can become hate filled towards all Old One creations (excluding themselves) and Chaos (for survival of course) due a sense of betrayal and trying to justify their bloodlust with a 'make a blank slate' approach of the world
1. Happy New Year. 2. Yeah, they are a very good potential DLC. Especially that the new Dreadmaw lore supports that they are getting some actual spotlight (not to mention that Snakeman star in the newest Blood Bowl edition).
Ancient sorta chaos, sorta Lizardmen, sorta Vampires does sound good so far. Considering they are mysterious and sit around in their jungle, I'd prefer them to be a neutral faction. They don't go out bothering anyone, but if you venture into their territory the snake waifus will hug you until your rip cage is shattered, your spine broken and your blood drained.
Talking from a pure alignment perspective, I'd like to see them fall in their own category. Which is something I'd love to see in general from these unexplored eastern lands in general. To have a few factions that won't nescercairly fall in with the order or chaos tide as the game progresses into the later stages.
I'm imagining it would be a combination between ogre kingdoms and slaanesh and even shaven, with mechanics like DE. Lots of vanguard deploying stalk large entities and maybe spend slaves to create fodder units with expendable
If Khuresh does make it to the game but doesn't end up a Chaos faction, I hope they get their own kind of corruption, or at least their own tree-designs like the Bretonnians and High/Wood Elves. Map-painting just hits different when you're actively painting the terrain.
Maybe have them view other races as nothing more than batteries and food to fuel their blood magic. They could try having their corruption suck the life out of enemy armies and increase their Empires Growth depending on how much damage it does. Though, what would snake men corruption even look like?
There is a mistake here I think or at least a slight dishonesty : the snakeman from Blood Bowl is not presented as a Naga from Kuresh but as coming from Lustria.
Elves have Dark Elves as an evil counterpart. Dwarfs have Chaos Dwarfs. I'd love to see Ind be a good counterpart to Beastmen (with a bit of humanoid/creature mix like Wood Elves). And Ind could be a perfect evil counterpart to Lizardmen.
I'd like them to be split half chaos aligned maybe in the south due to the wastes and "order" in the north and have the campaigns as like a civil war kind of thing, slightly different rosters but like varients I guess. Maybe have the chaos as the blood magic wielders and the order as warpstone users but in a buff/ defensive way rather than destruction like skaven.
I’ve been following this World Anvil project for a couple of years and wow, this is just so perfect for CA. Most of the aesthetic and design is already finished, now they just need to punch up the coding and integration into the existing game. And they would be SUCH a unique faction, on par with the release of the SKAVEN back when 2 came out.
I'm no expert on Warhammer lore, but Kuresh sounds really interesting, if they're anything like the Yuan Ti of Dungeons and Dragons I'll be really interested to see where they go
I think something really cool could be to focus on the blood magic idea and have them be something like lizardmen but corrupted not just by chaos but by vampirism too, doubly weakening them to create a single race. And make them a race of death and of chaos instead of just another part of the chaos rainbow. That and the evils of chaos and of death never seem to cross over but this could be a way to blend them and make something super unique.
What about Amazons and Snakement of Khuresh, they could do it like Woodelves and forest spirits, where you focus on one but can recruit units from the other. Also they could use forests too like a twisted version of WE.
I hope we first get a big update/rework/dlc for the vampire counts. We could even get some new lore/units in the east, since we now know this is possible. Tham snakeman a year later or so and than nagash I think. So that we have to time to enjoy the new stuff for vc, before nagash hits.
Regarding the snakemen mini for Bloodbowl, GW did the same some 2 years ago by releasing a Squat mercenary for Necromunda, and many dismissed that as just a one-off and not the full fledged return of the space dwarfs, yet here we are with the Leagues of Votann and Ironhead Squat Prospectors I 100% believe the Hinterlands of Khuresh are in development for the Old World and Warhammer 3
I think it’s for certain that we get chaos dwarves this year and maybe at least two roster additions (really hope some new units for Cathay and Kislev)
I hope 2023 will be jam packed with content for the game to revitalize its online presence and restore its reputation. There's still so much untapped potential and I can't wait to see what CA have been cooking backstage.
I'm brand new when it comes to Warhammer fantasy (or any Warhammer), and when I looked at all the races in Total War, I found it kinda odd that there are no snakes in the Lizardmen faction, yet there are frogs. I'd be more inclined to think that they were a sub-faction of the Lizard-men once upon a time, but were somewhat tainted by Chaos and banished on the other end of the world. And I'd like it better this way, honestly. It will also fit with the idea you quoted, that Snakemen think they're the true rulers of this world, which kinda corresponds to the notion that the Lizardmen are the old ones, firstborn, etc.
What could be a nice teasing would be having khuresh available on the map BUT, just like with Bretonia, having one or two minor faction from Nipon on the coast, like when in our world, Japan tried to invade Korea. Not fully playable faction with mod but Nipon minor factions with like basic units and basic building, like Bretonnia was in Warhammer 1 before Bretonnia was fully available.
I feel like the Khureshi Snakemen could be like the Chaos Dwarves or Skaven, where they use Dark Magic and their god/gods are lesser Chaotic deities like the Horned Rat and Hashut.
Personally, if i wrote the snake people origins, I make them the Old One's prototype to lizardmen, the first attempt actually used a small portion of chaos energy in their creation which made then unruly and unfit for the great purpose, so were cast aside and forogt about as then they perfected their method and made the Lizardmen
Has there been examples of lore and units appearing in Roleplay or Bloodbowl(or any other smaller franchise) making its way back into the bigger franchises like Warhammer Fantasy?
Also i think it’s quite certain we get Khuresh (hopefully sooner than later) a great idea would be a giant DLC with Ind vs Khuresh - a man can dream. But i personally am especially excited for Khuresh cause I think they could be a great neutral faction similar to OK just more elegant and mysterious. I also love dinos (lizardmen) and gorgons (snakeppl) I think factions who are ancient, feral but intelligent and full of pride interesting. I also could see an amazing roster like lizardmen have just more cruel/darker like darkelves. (i also looked after the artstation images of the Khuresh project and I have to say some are really cool but some are too crazy/abstract in my opinion like the monster and especially siege units but the infantry and hero units are damn cool!)
The snakemen in Conan and Lovecraft used blood magic combined with science so look for a dark elf like culture faction with skaven, mad scientist characteristics
Well Khuresh could be a sort of a Nubia type of location. But then again they could use that idea for the Southlands. I have an idea for a lost Nehekharan city of some kind that was rebuilt during a time when the Southlands wasn't a massive and likely chaos ridden place of horrors with it's dense jungles and swamps where people still live but for them it's probably like being in Warhammer 40k and on a planet at least 1⅒ as scary as Catachan.
I have a hard time trying to imagine what the naga snakemen of Khuresh’s roster will be like. I’d imagine that they wouldn’t have any cavalry, because how would a snake ride anything?
I imagine them as a Evil Lizardmen in general. Snekmen riding bigger Sneks which are also evil just like the Lizardmen. Idk why but I REALLY want them fleshed out
It makes me wonder if the Splintered Fang Warband for Warcry (AOS version of Kill Team) are a look or prototype for the Khuresh? Their theme is very poison and snake iconography- and in lore they are from a jungle continent in Ghyran and worship the daemonic “Coiling Ones” snake daemons who claim to be children of a Naga Godbeast.
There are multiple factions they could make as dlc and imo they can take their time as long as they make them interesting, fun and complex cause I'm not paying 20 bucks for reskined units and lords. There many more factions of men, there are fishmen and snakemen, chaos barbarians, chaos dwarves, halflings, hobgoblins and strange bugs. And aside from that many more lords and heroes from existing races like neferata and nagash.
I like the idea of them being a failed lizardmen race. I think they should lean into a "we were abandoned by the old ones" but preserve the lore that they can't be corrupted by chaos. They are evil because they choose to be, and there is something beautiful in that.
I feel like they're going to do what they have been doing and do a versus dlc a khurush vs Ind that way they can crunch both and test both for marketing purposes
Just putting this out there, but what if GW and CA pull a fast one and actually make the snakemen an order faction? Or at least anti-chaos. It's just, I know that TWWH3 is based primarily around chaos, but what if we get a surprise order faction to balance out the surplus of chaos?
I can see GW giving the Khuresh their own gods that better represent their own kind; instead of being just unaffiliated with anyone they would have worship for a Jormungandr for big nasty monsters, or a a Couatl for flying snakes, or(given Khuresh' proximity to Nippon) a Yamata no Oroshi for Hydra-esq beasties. Or maybe they'll just end up a subset allied with the Lizardmen. I would /hope/ that Khuresh get's a full filling out but I don't see GW using very sparse model launches to gage interest when it would be more cost effective to gage it and fill out some of the faction with Novels or TTRPG stories with Khuresh as the highlighted location.
Been arguing with some folks over in Sotek's discord about Khuresh having human slaves/worshippers. I think rigging and all snake army would be troublesome and limiting, it throws out personal calvary as Snakes wouldn't develope saddles and any platform would also seem silly to build as a creature more designed to wrap around things like branches and trunks. So like, would you have a bunch of posts sticking out of a giant monster with naga wrapped around the posts or would they have like... a platform with a bunch of pillows? Again it seems silly, but having structures for the sake of your underlings to be able to serve opens things up
i'd like to see them as a new main antagonist to the lizardmen. not corrupted lizardmen, just simply a species that went down a different path in ancient times like have them be perfect opposites to the lizardmen
I thought that the old ones didn't make their races out of nothing, but rather took existing races and modified them. Perhaps the lizardmen are from a population that the Old Ones meddled with, and the Snakemen of Khuresh are their cousins who haven't been modified by the Old Ones.
I personally would prefer Khuresh to not be able to summon monsters, as I think creating monster via blood magic should be a bit more time consuming. I would compare it more creating bone creatures by Tomb Kings that are trained in specific buildings. However, it could be quite nice if, for example, they were upgradeable like Elspeth's artillery, spending some blood resource or something like that.
I'd be down to see a mixed snake men situation similar to Kislev. One or more factions dedicated to being neutral and making their own path, while another faction (or a couple in time) are interested in re-establishing the favour of the ruinous powers. Basically a power play similar to kislevs race between Kostaltyn and Katarin but with very different goals in mind for what the race becomes by the end
I don't believe the best thing for DLC is for more races/LL's/factions. I want to see a all Lord's update pack. I want to see more customisable generic lords (vamp Lord's with great weapons or dwarf Lord's dual wielding) on TT you could customise your characters basic equipment. I want to see heroes be able to convert into Lord's and vice versa. (Imagine having a lord who's been battered merge into another army act as a hero. Also i want to see a return of lords managing a settlement (though better done, kislev attaman mechanic evolved a bit) Lord's/hero's being put into a unit/given a body guard option, empire hero's work by being put into a unit of knights untill they get a griffon. Necromancers work by being inside a unit of zombies.

Then they can become hate filled towards all Old One creations (excluding themselves) and Chaos (for survival of course) due a sense of betrayal and trying to justify their bloodlust with a 'make a blank slate' approach of the world
Just make them evil without tying them to Chaos..We have enough Chaos races already.
@@DarthEnderX I swear if they make another Chaos race...
You def deserve some time off. Thanks for all your hard work my dude!
Waiting for "Why Beastfiends/Calith Elves Could Be A COOL DLC".
Australian Elves. Noice
Talking from a pure alignment perspective, I'd like to see them fall in their own category.
Which is something I'd love to see in general from these unexplored eastern lands in general.
To have a few factions that won't nescercairly fall in with the order or chaos tide as the game progresses into the later stages.
I need some Wood Elf settlements there too.
I'm imagining it would be a combination between ogre kingdoms and slaanesh and even shaven, with mechanics like DE. Lots of vanguard deploying stalk large entities and maybe spend slaves to create fodder units with expendable
Infantry, monstrous infantry, monsters, and maybe artillery. I don’t think they’d have cavalry or flying units of any kind, but who knows
I love these because I love you going to bat for all these factions, since I know CA is watching.
You can bet middy was the first one who saw that video 😂.
I love you mate!
I'm no expert on Warhammer lore, but Kuresh sounds really interesting, if they're anything like the Yuan Ti of Dungeons and Dragons I'll be really interested to see where they go
I could leave a meaningful comment, or, I could just go: "Chaos. Dwarves. Chaos. Dwarves."
You say 'A jade wizard'
My brain hears ' AJ d' wizard'
I think something really cool could be to focus on the blood magic idea and have them be something like lizardmen but corrupted not just by chaos but by vampirism too, doubly weakening them to create a single race. And make them a race of death and of chaos instead of just another part of the chaos rainbow. That and the evils of chaos and of death never seem to cross over but this could be a way to blend them and make something super unique.
I'm kinda wanting Kuresh over Ind, Nippon, or any other DLC except maybe Aborash. I want all of the above though.
Regarding the snakemen mini for Bloodbowl, GW did the same some 2 years ago by releasing a Squat mercenary for Necromunda, and many dismissed that as just a one-off and not the full fledged return of the space dwarfs, yet here we are with the Leagues of Votann and Ironhead Squat Prospectors
I 100% believe the Hinterlands of Khuresh are in development for the Old World and Warhammer 3
That being said this is not presented as a Naga from Kuresh but as a snakeman from Lustria
Would be super excited to see Ind Nippon Khuresh. Would be great DLC and round things off beautifully
This is the one I want the most out of all of them.
You need to make a wanted race pack tier list.
Thanks for the video
What could be a nice teasing would be having khuresh available on the map BUT, just like with Bretonia, having one or two minor faction from Nipon on the coast, like when in our world, Japan tried to invade Korea. Not fully playable faction with mod but Nipon minor factions with like basic units and basic building, like Bretonnia was in Warhammer 1 before Bretonnia was fully available.
So lands to the east with vampire snake-people, but also monkey and tiger-people? Cool, giving me vibes of elder scrolls' Akavir
I love the animal people. Rat Lizard beast. When I heard there were snake people in WHF I was whaaaat hopefully that will follow the chaos dwarf pack
great stuff!
Cool! You used art from Cobol Yu!
The snake man be somewhere like the serpent men from the Robert E Howard story's Conan and kull
I do like the theory of snakemen being jilted by the dark brothers, in favour for those pesky humans
Would certainly play Kuresh. Ind and Araby would love in the game, but kuresh and southern realms factions o could see myself playing regularly
i would love some snakes to play together with my lizards
I would hope they’d have access to giant snake units like a Giant anaconda that just swallows entire units
It would be the best possible race pack DLC
Well Khuresh could be a sort of a Nubia type of location. But then again they could use that idea for the Southlands. I have an idea for a lost Nehekharan city of some kind that was rebuilt during a time when the Southlands wasn't a massive and likely chaos ridden place of horrors with it's dense jungles and swamps where people still live but for them it's probably like being in Warhammer 40k and on a planet at least 1⅒ as scary as Catachan.
I honestly wouldn't minds od they would combine kuresh and ind into one faction.
Imagine a realms of the east dlc race pack where we have nipon, ind and kurash
I have a hard time trying to imagine what the naga snakemen of Khuresh’s roster will be like. I’d imagine that they wouldn’t have any cavalry, because how would a snake ride anything?
There are dinos riding dinos....pretty sure they can find some giant snakes to ride around on! XD
Different breeds of snakemen? Some with legs, some without? Just like the Yuan-ti from D&D?
I imagine them as a Evil Lizardmen in general. Snekmen riding bigger Sneks which are also evil just like the Lizardmen. Idk why but I REALLY want them fleshed out
They do have giant death worms like the ones in DUNE
You should check out Cobol Yu’s work on Artstation. It’s awesome! His version of the Snakemen has chariots and bunch of other interesting stuff!😁👍🏻
I hope this does come as a DLC 🤞
I like the idea of them being a failed lizardmen race. I think they should lean into a "we were abandoned by the old ones" but preserve the lore that they can't be corrupted by chaos. They are evil because they choose to be, and there is something beautiful in that.
jungle pygmies please!
I’d like for the snake men to be ancient like the dragons of Cathay, not chaos, not inherently evil or anything.
Is there a guide that indicates/suggests in which order to read the warhammer fantasy books?
I feel like they're going to do what they have been doing and do a versus dlc a khurush vs Ind that way they can crunch both and test both for marketing purposes
That would be a big dlc with two new races
@@JustFun-wl3jf they did it before they can do it again
@@thelordcommander4639 when?
@@petarantolovic6484 kislev and demons
@@thelordcommander4639 they never did that. Dlc races are sold separately and I would rather them keep it that way
I just love Naga and everything with egyptian vibes, so this right up my alley
They should of do a nippon map mod, like what they did with the abion, but have custom nippon units in it
I would love for them to be benevolent but arrogant rulers opposed to chaos and willing to work with other factions as long as they benefit
Just putting this out there, but what if GW and CA pull a fast one and actually make the snakemen an order faction? Or at least anti-chaos. It's just, I know that TWWH3 is based primarily around chaos, but what if we get a surprise order faction to balance out the surplus of chaos?
Yes we need the snake men!
Again it seems silly, but having structures for the sake of your underlings to be able to serve opens things up
I really hope we at least get the 2 land mass playable
i'd like to see them as a new main antagonist to the lizardmen.
not corrupted lizardmen, just simply a species that went down a different path in ancient times
like have them be perfect opposites to the lizardmen
I kind of wish they'd bring the sleeper into the game. Bug people!
Cuthulu army!
CA I want spent money, make this goddamn DLCs
IT MUST BE DLC IT MUUUUUST
I'd be down to see a mixed snake men situation similar to Kislev. One or more factions dedicated to being neutral and making their own path, while another faction (or a couple in time) are interested in re-establishing the favour of the ruinous powers. Basically a power play similar to kislevs race between Kostaltyn and Katarin but with very different goals in mind for what the race becomes by the end
As a SE Asian man myself, I would love for my culture to be represented by bad ass snake men.
this has been awsome if they have made
I don't believe the best thing for DLC is for more races/LL's/factions.
Also i want to see a return of lords managing a settlement (though better done, kislev attaman mechanic evolved a bit)
Lord's/hero's being put into a unit/given a body guard option, empire hero's work by being put into a unit of knights untill they get a griffon. Necromancers work by being inside a unit of zombies.
I just want to scream “COBRA ATTACK” at the start of a skirmish and then yell “RETREAT” when I lose said skirmish.
“Next time G.I.Joe!”
