The video is their relationship played backwards, beginning with her having moved on and him wanting her back. First sign of this is him walking backwards across the street.
This is why they are depicted as living together but very distant immediately after this, and the intense arguments come next.
We then see them at their best together early on, and the final scene is the first time they meet at a party. Playing it backwards like this makes the inevitable failure of their relationship more tragic; really clever idea.
