Your songwriting game has to be pretty strong to clock a credit on one of R&B's modern masterpieces, so let's give Kevin Garrett a high-five or two. Though he's still only just released his debut album in March, the singer has been on lots of people's radars for a while now - including Beyonce. A Pittsburgh native who studied music tech at NYU and now calls Brooklyn home, he wrote and produced the kickoff track from 'Lemonade,' "Pray That You Catch Me." Call him a jack of all trades who tilts towards the mastery of several. His vocals are plaintive and convincing. His playing is skilled and confident. His writing is catchy and inspired. See for yourself. Garrett hit our studio for live takes on "Smoke" and "Title Track," from his new 'Hoax' album.
