  • Navajo-Picuris Pueblo jeweler Connie Tsosie-Gaussoin is a past winner of the Living Treasure award given each year as part of the Native Treasures art show and sale in Santa Fe, New Mexico. In this video, Connie talks about her life and her work as a jeweler, and about the work of her artist children.

    I love this lady we artist keep this universe moving I believe that artist and anyone creating is the ones doing living being a creator as the great spirit wishes his childeren to BE, as in who are you BEING as yourself a BEING of LIGHT to create express your self the concious part with a spirit a mind in a body created to be a creator yourself music fashion painting and jewelry all are ART works to be enjoyed and shared witj others.

    She is that awesome: there is no bragging here; to quote my Zuni friends from years ago: she's not making herself all big. Her kids (full disclosure: my second cousins) are also genuinely awesome, wonderful. I've talked to David and Tazbah more than Wayne or active military Jerry Jr., but oh my goodness, they're all super creative and wonderful. Serious scholars as well as artists. They asked me years ago, how, if we put it out on the web, can we prevent people from copying it? I said , you can't. I love to her Connie say: yes, people are copying their designs, but they were there first: she's right.
