The sticker price on my Novel exhaust was absurd, but the smile it puts on my face every time I drive the car is priceless.
Thanks for your honesty Steven
Always. Thanks for your support!
Does it work for is500? if so, is there a sound clip?
Yes it does and it would sound identical to an RC F
Well done Steven
We try our best and thanks for the support. We'll be pumping out way more Lexus specific videos real soon so stay tuned.
How much power does this add anyway? Same as the other headers from Sikky, American Race Header, RR racing, the dreaded cheap OBX?
Let me request the numbers from NOVEL, I would say its comparable to the others maybe even less as some people have reported, but I will double check and add to this comment. Although I would say the biggest benefit is the sound and if you are interested in it focus on that aspect. If you look at PPE UEL and EL they are about a HP off from each other and you wouldn't feel it. UEL and EL just has power gains in different areas of the power band so its kind of a weird thing to compare looking at max power gain against each other.
If you are looking for absolute power gain the most cost effective / high quality product / Proven route will always be the PPE UEL Ceramic Coated
If you want ear nectar and the best sound on the planet the NOVEL GEN II
Is novel planning on releasing a gen 2 with cats like they did with the gen 1?
Great video, it’s interesting to hear that they are not completely equal length. This makes sense because on a cross plane engine, perfectly equal runners will not produce the most even sound. You still have two pulses firing on each bank. Looking at the 2UR firing order, cylinder 3 being slightly longer would work. And then cylinder 2 slightly longer on the other side. This is all a guess, but I do know of a very simple way to figure out the lengths/pitch on the Novel but I won’t say out of respect. Also, it’s been mentioned the novel primary diameters are around 1 and 5/8” versus PPE’s 1.75”. This could also contribute more deconstructive harmonics that give Novels that nice “phasey” cancellation that’s almost “tape-flange-esque.”
What Header setup do you recommend for a 2GR-FSE engine. (2009 Lexus gs350). Thanks!
Only reputable option out there we could suggest is PPE, we would need to check if its still being produced, but send us an email if you are interested sales@modinjapan.com and we can help you out.
Nice that the valves are vacuum actuated, I put together my own axleback with normally open vacuum actuators that utilize the OEM selenoid from the secondary intake inlet for the intake box so it opens at 3600rpm on the IS-F and I installed a kill switch if I want the valves open at any time, it is nice to see you guys use vaccum for them, well put together video, I'm local to Artic_knight and the sounds is just 👌👌👌
Arctic Knight is such a good guy too, and it sucks because there is no way to capture this sound on camera you have to just be physically next to it to fully understand it. Its totally different in person.
@@ModinJapan there's something about it that soud waves seem to float around, first time I heard it I thought it was some other car a few blocks down, very impressive 👌
Can you purchase just the manifolds? I’m running all Ti right now - GTHaus Ti Midpipe and Tom’s Ti axle back. Don’t really want to purchase the whole Novel system, just the headers.
Of course you can you can preorder them here www.modinjapan.com/lexus/is-f/is-f-2008-2014/exhaust-systems-3313/novel-exhaust-manifold-for-lexus-is-f-nov-headers.html
Would any of these headers work for a swapped ISF motor? Have an RCF v8 about to go in an ISF and was wondering if I can use these headers with it?
dumb question - what was wrong with the ISF motor being replaced? I thought they are the same stoutness and very similar? I just got an ISF myself so was curious :)
Never been in that situation but I believe it should work just never confirmed it. Clearances is very tight around the steering column but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work
@@VersanGetryxno dumb questions here, but ISF have the valley plate leak over time they revised the V8 like in the rcf and gsf. I’ve seen people make 500 from the new motors full bolt on and a tune. Goal is to the same.
@@proraceer07 Appreciate the response! Wouldn't the $1500 preventative valley plate fix cost a lot less than a whole motor swap? And I believe full bolt on ISF is close to that hp, just from researching
Great content; here's a question, since the cost is not an issue why aren't headers made from titanium to mate with a titanium mid pipe and to a titanium exhaust? Also do you know why didnt Novel for the price just use titanium for their mid pipe and exhaust for weight savings? Weight is king on the RCF platform and I always wondered this. Thank you I think I will be doing Novel Gen 2 headers but the mid pipe and exhaust truly wish it was titanium.
Most headers won't be made out of titanium as it's not really a material that is suited for that kind of direct heat. Inconel would be better suited for this and then you can connect a titanium mid-pipe or catback to that from there. You'll see things like Inconel headers with titanium exhausts on Ferrari's and such.
@@Omega_TTRS I see the reason I ask is because Titanium generally has higher tolerances to heat than Stainless Steel. So I wonder how do you define suited for direct heat as compared to SS. Melting point, dissipation, agreed on Iconel however with Ti...never really quite understood the logic beyond cost of course. I guess looking the material chart Ti does have lower ductility then SS which can be a forming nightmare for something like headers and it seems repeated exposure to its high temp ability duration time can bring lesser material strength. Well answered my own question lol. Just wondered if there was maybe a coated version or a high end but after looking at the material charts ....it makes sense why it doesnt. Material charts for the win!
I can't comment on their decision of material they made but I could probably speculate on why. So the way the manifold itself is produced is a very old-school Japanese technique where they do produce a jig to maintain the tolerances of the manifold but it is essentially heated and bent by hand with this rod. It's very Japanese because it's extraordinarily labor-intensive and relies a lot on experience which is not necessarily the most conducive method for mass production what gives you that handcrafted Artisan approach. Since the shape itself is so complex titanium itself would tear since it doesn't like being bent to those kinds of extremes. So the only other choice is a significant amount of pie cuts, which is even more labor intensive which would increase the cost of the production even higher using all titanium and titanium welding rods. Then considering how many pie cuts would be needed and all those other welds, those would all be come potential failure points.
Inconel would probably be a great choice of material, but if you think this manifold expensive imagine it made in inconel....
The cat back however could be produced a little bit more easily in titanium but I suspect the reason for that is they actually have a CAT that is very specific and availability for full titanium cats is far less available, I could imagine that's why that decision was made. This system is sold in very low numbers so economies of scale would never happen, so it would make more sense to stick to materials that are readily available and very reliable in nature.
@@ModinJapan Beautiful response and thank you for taking the time to bring clarity! Makes perfect sense. Heavily leaning toward Novel Gen 2 headers and back and forth between the Novel exhaust or Ti Meisterschaft Mid/Catback. That Ti is so darn light. However regardless I will be being from MIJ zero question having a Fuji RCF I dont want to add not even a 1lb of more weight before I start tracking the car.
@@Omega_TTRS Thank you for your response! Great point!
Perfect price💯
The absolute best lol
God, I wish I could get this for my 13 ISF. I have Hayward and Scott exhaust right now. It sounds pretty good. I sure wish I could get the Novel headers probably couldn’t run them as I’m in Sacramento California😢
We wish you could run it too :(
Bro just get it lol $250-300 for illegal smog pass you’re fine. Idk y ppl make it a big deal in Cali all my cars have been loud and never got pulled over once in many diff parts of Cali.
Very interesting, awesome quality. Truth is, I was about to buy a complete exhaust system from Novel, until I saw it was an house down payment.
That’s a very common story but one day if you do decide to look at it again, let us know
Have you got anything for the 1 urfse engine ?
Unfortunately nothing I’m aware of
I do like that sound tho it sound amazing
It sounds incredible
The equal length is legal smog in CA?
Definitely not no exhaust manifold will be smog legal in California including the PPE one with the cat on it.
I need one for my LC!
LC manifold is in development now so stay tuned!
Is it available for Lexus is500
Any dealer/distributor options for us Europeans?
We can ship direct from Japan to you is your car RHD or LHD just let us know sales@modinjapan.com and we can prep a quote with lead time
💯💥💥💥💯💥💥💥🙌🏽🎌
my thoughts exactly!
Can confirm that a broke college student can afford this, the only downside to this whole system is that everyone and their mother want to make you rev ur car.
That setup will definitely bring all the boys to the yard... If you have a wife that needs convincing, this system will attract nothing but car guys and definitely scare away any girls since its extremely loud.
Lol, if you have this exhaust and the car to put it on....and you're still in college , areeeeee youuuu reeeally broke ? Sounds like you're doing good to me
A
Also don't spend your money on a company that overcharges. 😂
It’s definitely not for everyone
Straight pipe is not the best way for most hp from an exhaust system. And all this video is trying to do is justify getting 30hp for 5900 bucks. Nope. It’s just to say yeah, I’m that bonehead who spent that for 30hp. Nice try.
It is if you want to calculate dollar per HP
Not exactly, on the street I have always preferred sound to hp and chose TODA and Mugen for exhaust when I modded Hondas. That being said, I still wouldn’t pick Novel because, while they sound good, the sound isn’t different enough to justify the price imo. More power to the people who drop the coin for it though, people thought I was crazy for bolting a $6k TODA full exhaust to an 8th gen Si, so I know the feeling.
