This brings back a memory when I did the same thing in a customers living room as she was sat on her new cream sofa with new carpets. The horror still hangs over me now. I blame brain fart sometimes 👍
The black geyser! Back when I was an apprentice I did this exact thing in a customer's bedroom. Unfortunately they weren't planning on redecorating and also unfortunately the very black water sprayed all over the bed. Not my finest moment. The customers were great though and took it well and the sheets washed OK. I had to paint the wall though.
It happens so quick, I did make a stupid mistake on this one, I think I was under pressure at the time, you learn the hard way sometimes, thanks for watching mate

Great vid Tom. That system was dirty. I done that when 10mm pvc return loop was blocked on heating system. I removed the lockshield on bathroom radiator which was totally seized so couldn't check return flow at that point in the system and as the other return pipes in the house were totally blocked and i had tried forced air pressure to try and unblock which didn't work, i got complacent with the bathroom return and assumed that would be the same. I removed the valve and got a 1 foot jet of water into my eyes and couldn't see s^^t as a result but managed to locate valve back on with my eyes shut. Love your vids as always. Great stuff mate!

Good solid video Tom, similar happened to me, carpet was jet black so spent 3 hours buying all the products i could to clean it up then customer returns and said all carpets are being replaced tomorrow anyway!! 🤣🤣
I was a sparky but then took on plumbing as my second trade after people started to ask me if I could fit showers, hand wash units, outside taps, sinks and bathrooms etc. Many people were more frightened of a water leak than they were of electricity, (me included) at first, so they wouldn't mess with water themselves. One of the things I always carried in my tool box was a self cutting washing machine tap that was brilliant if I had to drain a 15mm pipe that I wasn't sure about. I was a bit of a coward unlike you and Tiff who just dive in there. I used that old tap just earlier this year when I was draining the heating system down so I could take out a radiator. I just connected a washing machine hose to it and shoved into the shower cubical and it dripped all day long. I also made a gadget for draining 22 and 28mm pipes that involved drilling a whole in the pipe, just didn't take any chances. Control and containment is my motto in life. Mate, had this in a hotel I was working on when I replaced a section of HWR pipework isolated the return in the plant room but not the flow (end of the day sort of job.) I got lucky, loosened the nut and tried to pull the pipe away from the olive, the pipe was so rigid, it didn't want to budget away from it. 6 bar of pressure behind it and still managed to wind it back in 🤦 Needless to say, could've been horrendous, but managed to blag it... Thank F***! 😬😬

I’ve been a plumbing and heating engineer for 35 years now, and yes still mess up occasionally, anyone who says they never do is lying, that’s you need public liability insurance, something I never get asked to prove I have from a customer funnily enough, one bad error in our game can be costly. Sounds like Xmas can’t come fast enough for you, I’m booked up now to 16th December, then only doing emergencies up to first week of January, need a break myself😀

Hi Tom the trials and tribulations of being a heating engineer . A few years ago a got sent to a leaking rad valve on a 2” mild steel one piper in a old church in the vicars office. I just touched the valve body with my grips and the valves body just fell in bits and started to squirt dirty heating water everywhere ( Black Death ), behind me in the vicars office was he’s white most holy ceremonial robe and several photos of him meeting very important people like the then pope , Desmond Toto and Nelson Mandela, and now these items have been covered with Black Death. You can laugh about it today but at the time it’s a different situation. Keep Spannering

You stayed calm and collected, could see the small amount of initial panic (which anyone would) bet you edited out the strong words once you got it back under control though Bread and butter jobs can always go wrong just like you said no matter how many times we've done them, I started testing rad vents before isolating for this reason and glad I do tbh, this one could've happened to me, glad you left it in, top work

Always going to happen when mentally and physically exhausted. I'm 36 years on my own and I've a few stories as well 😂 Only thing I always try and remember is to remove trv head with a manual head as you never know if it's going to let by. Hopefully you got to have a break over Xmas 👌👌

Similar thing happen to me apart from it being 2½" black iron in a school and the hole filled very quickly, then the dinning hall then the corridor the 2 classrooms 🤦♂️🤦♂️ just wanted the hole to take me in. Can laugh about it now though and atleast it was on the ground floor. Good work

Mate I did the same thing at a really old property with the old half inch female threaded valves, massive house, probably 30litres of shitty water came out, could not for the life of me get the nut back in on the valve, eventually I got it but it was a mess, luckily they were renovating but was exactly what just happened to you and caught me by surprise, I was told the radiators were redundant which 1 was but this one wasn't won't be listening to a customers like that again lol
It's so easily done, and it honestly feels like the world is falling apart around you, I think only plumbers know what it feels like to be in that position with water flying at you out of control, thanks for the support and thanks for watching

Did this in a kitchen with them valves with the allen key head, the top bit pinged off and water sprayed everywhere, never touched them lock shields ever again 😂

With all due respect Tom, why do you use pump pliers instead of spanners? Do you know something that I don't? Pump pliers tend to damage the nut's. I love your videos by the way.
You are right mate, I do use my grips to often, I do sometimes use the smooth jaw version which doesn't mark fittings, for most compression fittings I do use a spanner
I’m shocked by how professional this makes my work look. I heard the “Hopefully” three times in the first minute, so what happened next was no surprise at all. An electrician who worked this sloppily would be dead in their first week 🤦♂️

Changing a load of rad valves and one tail out the rad wouldn’t budge…..so applied some heat via my blow lamp…must of been some hydrogen in the rad because their was a “ boom” as black shit water flew out the rad and hit the wall to my left

I agree mate, it was the first one I have fitted and I won't be rushing to fit another, it was a tough job as relocating the boiler would have been nearly impossible, site conditions meant an external boiler would have been impractical, so the only option was to replace the old wall hung for another, thanks for watching 👍

I'm not brave enough to try it Chris, I guess it's been out a while now and more plumbers are using it without any problems, I am always really careful with the stuff I use as leaks can be very expensive, thanks for watching as always mate

Always going to happen when mentally and physically exhausted. I'm 36 years on my own and I've a few stories as well 😂
Only thing I always try and remember is to remove trv head with a manual head as you never know if it's going to let by. Hopefully you got to have a break over Xmas 👌👌

Similar thing happen to me apart from it being 2½" black iron in a school and the hole filled very quickly, then the dinning hall then the corridor the 2 classrooms 🤦♂️🤦♂️ just wanted the hole to take me in. Can laugh about it now though and atleast it was on the ground floor. Good work

Mate I did the same thing at a really old property with the old half inch female threaded valves, massive house, probably 30litres of shitty water came out, could not for the life of me get the nut back in on the valve, eventually I got it but it was a mess, luckily they were renovating but was exactly what just happened to you and caught me by surprise, I was told the radiators were redundant which 1 was but this one wasn't won't be listening to a customers like that again lol
It's so easily done, and it honestly feels like the world is falling apart around you, I think only plumbers know what it feels like to be in that position with water flying at you out of control, thanks for the support and thanks for watching

Did this in a kitchen with them valves with the allen key head, the top bit pinged off and water sprayed everywhere, never touched them lock shields ever again 😂

With all due respect Tom, why do you use pump pliers instead of spanners? Do you know something that I don't? Pump pliers tend to damage the nut's. I love your videos by the way.
You are right mate, I do use my grips to often, I do sometimes use the smooth jaw version which doesn't mark fittings, for most compression fittings I do use a spanner
I’m shocked by how professional this makes my work look. I heard the “Hopefully” three times in the first minute, so what happened next was no surprise at all. An electrician who worked this sloppily would be dead in their first week 🤦♂️

Changing a load of rad valves and one tail out the rad wouldn’t budge…..so applied some heat via my blow lamp…must of been some hydrogen in the rad because their was a “ boom” as black shit water flew out the rad and hit the wall to my left

Grants should not be wall hung!! I know they technically can but way too heavy - even if you take burner and baffles out
I agree mate, it was the first one I have fitted and I won't be rushing to fit another, it was a tough job as relocating the boiler would have been nearly impossible, site conditions meant an external boiler would have been impractical, so the only option was to replace the old wall hung for another, thanks for watching 👍
