WHO I AM
Hello, I'm Jen Campbell. I'm an award-winning poet and bestselling author of twelve books, spanning short stories, poetry, picture books, and nonfiction.
My books for adults include The Beginning of the World in the Middle of the Night, The Girl Aquarium, The Bookshop Book, and The Sunday Times bestselling Weird Things Customers Say in Bookshops series. My picture book trilogy Franklin and Luna, and my middle-grade book The Sister Who Ate Her Brothers, are published by Thames & Hudson. I've won both an Eric Gregory Award and the Jane Martin Poetry Prize, and my books have been translated into twenty languages.
I've worked in the publishing industry for over fifteen years, initially as a bookseller, and now as a freelance editor, content creator and disability advocate. I review books online, in print and on the radio. I run a TH-cam channel where I talk about books, the history of fairy tales, and the representation of disability and disfigurement. Thanks for being here, folks ❤ **edited to add: I don’t expect you to have seen all my videos (that would be ridiculous 😂), so for anyone surprised that I am pregnant, everything I have to say about that is in this video here th-cam.com/video/2hiyAvXbLHM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=17rvGxbeIoR6TFWe I won’t be talking about it much elsewhere. ♥️ Sending love xx
❤❤❤
Congrats Jen!!! All the love to you and the baby❤
Congratulations!! 🎉
OH MY GOODNESS!!!! 7 months pregnant?!?!?! Sending so much love to you and your growing family from LA! Your videos bring me so much joy ❤️
I remember that last trip to Foyles! Can't believe it was 18 months ago! Craziness. Glad you made it again this time. Glad your pelvic pain is easing. Exciting to see glimpses of your baby bump, so excited for you both.
Yay! Another cozy vlog. We always appreciate your videos. x
❤
i am so glad you got to make the trip to foyles and that you're feeling better and that you got to see that light show.
Thanks 😊 x
Huge congratulations, Jen (and Mr M) I'm so happy for you both.
your vlogs ideas are so creative and enterntaining!
I’m glad you like them ☺️ xx
Bookshops are so magical all year round and then when it's Christmas time they just seem to glow don't they? ✨️ 😍 I'm glad you got your trip to Foyles ☺️ oooh I remember loving Little Eyes, you've reminded me to read more by that author. Merry Christmas Jen! ✨️🎄✨️🩷🩷
I have developed a habit recently which is to watch your videos several times during the week😂. Actually, I can take away more each time I watch them. Thank you. And merry Christmas 🎄
I’m sorry you’ve had a rough month! That sounds dreadful. Glad you made it to Foyles though ❤
Twas not my favourite! Hoping I can keep it at bay for the next little while. xx
Love and Only Love and More Love!!!
Jen is my favorite person on the internet. That's a FACT. Period. 😏💙☺💙😏
Ideal Perfect Healing Vlog : Jen Campbell reading vlog with cooking, translated books, a bookshop with her book, Jen reads marvelous extracts and makes us drool over delicious writing, more sweet DIYs, then Jen smiles and talks about stars and reindeers and sparkling brains...like I'm enchanted miss!! Also, the wigs are GIVINGGG!!! 💙👌💙👌💙
The music for Foyles!!! Are you kidding me, my heart is full now
So glad you made it to Foyles. I went for the first time in October, it was wonderful. Daunt books was my London favourite of the trip.
Banana bread and mince pies looked amazing 😊
Happy Christmas to you and your family x
Everything you cook always looks delicious 🤤
Got two of your books for Christmas and super excited to read them❤❤🎉
Congrats Jen!
Lovely vlog! Sorry you have been having the additional health challenge, but you seem to be well on the mend thankfully. Loved seeing the little cameo appearance from Lola(?) the dog. I have just had my serious readers light delivered this morning after thinking about it for a while. I’m still fine tuning it but its light is perfect for this extra gloomy December afternoon. Take care lovely lady 💖
If you read The Sailor Who Fell From Grace From the Sea, just a heads up on a trigger warning for animal cruelty. You can skip the chapter without missing much plot - but I haven’t gone back to his books since 🙈
Thanks for the warning x
Chocky is my favourite Wyndham, hope you love it when you do pick it up!
That makes me more excited to pick it up, thanks ☺️ x
So happy to hear your pregnancy news! I know you've talked about the challenges around this before so v happy to hear this!
I spoke about it here: th-cam.com/video/2hiyAvXbLHM/w-d-xo.html but won't be talking about it elsewhere. x
Always love the reading vlogs 😊
Thank you x
Oooh does this mean more picture book reviews/recs in the future? I have a soon to be 2 year old niece and am always hunting for new books to read with her. ❤️
7 months!!!! So happy for you💓💓💓💓
That short story collection is my favorite by Samanta, she is brilliant! I hope you enjoy it :)
☺️
❤️ I hope your pelvic pain continues to heal. Those lights were gorgeous, and ah, that walk through foyle’s brought back such happy memories of my time in London. Merry Christmas to you both.
Jen - not sure if you’ve read ‘Tasting Sunlight’ by Ewald Arenz but I’d love to know what you think of it. Just finished it and I thought it was such a beautifully written book. Trigger warning for eating disorders in case anyone wants to pick it up.
Not a book I’ve read or own at the moment, sorry x
Thank you Jen, it was wonderful to see Foyles, i was in London in 2010 and found the shop and thought I was in heaven.
Ah, that will have been the old Foyles, too! This one opened in 2014 x
Thank you for this lovely, inspiring video. I really like the look of Seven Empty Houses. Chocky is my favourite John Wyndham and moves me every time I re-read it, although I love them all!
Try using an apple half. You paint on the stem and seeds and it is very pretty.
You mean use an apple without shaping it into something else? For non-Christmas paper that sounds fun ☺️
❤️❤️❤️Cosy and wonderful as always. Thank you Jen xx
♥️
i wish you have the greatest of holidays ❤
I hope you have a lovely festive time, too x
Great video Jen!! I love christmas as I know I get the see the potato wrapping paper again! One day I will try it ahah...Glad you got to go to foyles as well, by me I only have a small waterstones so that foyles looked amazing ahah 💚
It is, indeed, the mothership x
Glad you got to go to Foyles as I was not able to make it there on my trip to London that just finished. I always love to see that shop. I made it to plenty of other bookshops though and managed to fill my spare suitcase with delightful books to bring home. Sadly, I also came home with COVID, but I’m not feeling too terribly and hope to be rid of it soon. Had my first taste of mince pie, British Airways style, on the way home. It was definitely not for me. Yours looks much tastier!
I hope you feel better soon x
I miss that Foyles terribly. Pre-pandemic I used to work close to it and stop there on my way to the tube home at least once a week just to browse and now I haven't been in ages so I'm living vicariously through you with this vlog haha. Also that banana bread looked delicious. Have you shared the recipe in a previous video by any chance?
I tend just to use the top result bbc good food one, and then throw in some cinnamon, sometimes some chocolate chips, occasionally will use half the amount of egg and top it up with pumpkin purée. I don’t really stick closely to the recipe x
@@jenvcampbell Thanks so much! Will try that one then. Hope you have a lovely week!
i'm quite behind on youtube content, and it's such a happy news hearing you're pregnant! i finally got around to reading please do not touch this exhibit at the start of the month, so you and your beautiful words have been in my mind this december. now onto actually watching this vlog, haha
♥️ x
Love your videos ❤❤❤
♥️
Excellent video as always, Jen. I added some of the books to my TBR list. One quick question: where can I find your recipe for banana bread? Looks very tasty, indeed. Thanks in advance! 🙏🏻❤️

@@jenvcampbell ah lovely. I will for sure try. Thanks again and Merry Christmas!
🖤💚
I actually bought Nettleblack after you featured it in your previous video because I thought it sounded amazing. Alas, I had to set it aside because the narrator was quite possibly the most irritating character I've ever read. I guess that's a sign of good writing, but I just couldn't tolerate them for as long as it would have taken me to finish the book!
❤
♥️
God bless you Jen.with a Beautiful baby.. Making potatoe craving u make it look ex u r talented and now blessed . HAVE GREAT HOLIDAYS TAKE CARE B SAFE....USA ...
I don't know whether you've mentioned it in previous video and I've missed it, but CONGRATULATIONS ON THE PREGNANCY! I know you've been through a lot to get here and I'm so happy that there is now a light at the end of the tunnel :)
