    Hi, it's always a pleasure to see you at work and it's a great stimulus and example; moreover, your willingness to share with the wonderful context and construction style of the videos is valuable ... after all, I am your admirer.
    I wanted to ask you if you water the layering with some biostimulant (algae, bacteria, mycorrhizae, etc.).
    Thanks again for the work.

    Absolutely stunning twin trunk maple. The vigor is crazy.
    I love that you style the tree like a maple with out and up branches.
    I started 2 air layers in late march on overgrown hornbeam hedges but I have not watered them. Do you water your air layers and if yes when? There are a lot of videos on how to start an air layer but not how to tend to one.

    • @ArkefthosBonsai
      @ArkefthosBonsai  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you mate! Yes it's unexpected vigour. Kate March is kinda early for air layers. Hormone balance is playing against you at that time, plus hornbeams are relatively difficult trees to root, not impossible though. If I air layer a garden tree (like that maple is), I don't pass by the tree all the time, so I close my air layers tight, to hold humidity in. That way, the air layers are watered with a pressurized spray bottle (or a syringe) twice a month, if there is no rain in between. For air layers on trees that are on the bench, I leave the top open and water them every time I have to water the tree itself. Air layers in landscape trees are hard to keep in check for water and temprature. I wish you luck on your air layers. I'm air layering a hornbeam tomorrow, cheers!

    Thank you for sharing your work and trees. Would you use the sanding technique on all trees to promote callous formation or just Maples?

    • @ArkefthosBonsai
      @ArkefthosBonsai  ปีที่แล้ว

      Very nice question! I did not specifically sanded to promote callusing. From experience I ve found that sanding like that gives a healthier margin and I get callus all over. I ve used it on maples, Ostrya, carpinus and soon on taxodium. Not on pines yet. But it seems to work beautifully. Thank you Andrew!

      I explain everything in detail in the captions - subtitles. For this tree I used a well airated mix, since it will be well watered, with 40%perlite, 40%zeolite and 20% organic topsoil from the forest above. Cheers!
