Dane Whitman is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The third character to bear the Black Knight name, he was created by writer Roy Thomas and artist John Buscema, and first appeared in The Avengers #47.

I can't believe they actually added Dane Whitman to the MCU! He was my favorite as a kid and I never thought I'd see him in the MCU.

Facts
George RR Matin was a hugggeee black Knight fan. So much so, he named a very important great house house Dayne. Notable Easter Eggs: Ser Arthur Dayne, the sword of the morning. His magical sword Dawn forged from a fallen meteor. Many fans believe Jon Snow will become the new sword of the morning. And of course, Jon Snow himself, Kit Harrington is playing Dane Whitman. Whitman is named after the comic publisher George read as a kid. Bunch more as well. Just a neat connection.
I love this! Just watched the Eternals movie and couldn't stop thinking about the assonance of Dane and Dayne, knowing RR Martin is a fan of Marvel I thought there might be something going on there. Thank you for sharing and confirming! Very cool.

I feel like this was a sliiiight overestimation
I was first introduced to the character in the Avengers Under Seige storyline with the Masters of Evil. Because he was a main member of the Avengers for that story, and I knew nothing about him at the time, I found him very interesting.

I would've preferred a movie set in medieval times like an Excalibur movie, the way they did Captain America in a World War 2 scenario.
The climax of the movie could've been a cool dragon battle, maybe even a post credits scene with Dr. Strange meeting Merlin.
Black knight is basically a Hawkeye type character who uses ancient weapons when he should just buy a damn gun, but would rule in his own timeline.
How the hell does Dr Strange meet Merlin
I don’t think he needs his own movie, I’m more interested in his character knowing I don’t have to sit through his 90 minute boring origin story when the 5 min he got in eternals was good enough.

Oh wow... Galactic Storm. That takes me back some years... I'm having flash backs as if I'm remembering my time in Vietnam. I remember going to Shinders(Downtown Minneapolis) to read all that series. Years later finding the comics in Dime Crates. Really cool story, if youre new to the galactic landscape... but man, super long.
Man that sucks that Marvel doesn't even know what to do with Dane Whitman/Black Knight. BUT I just watched Eternals and I was very interested in learning more about him. He's one of my new favorites now! He's definitely going to be a huge fan base character with his appearance in the MCU now. I'm excited to see more of his character on screen. So cool!

One of my first thoughts, when the Ebony Blade was mentioned, and it's properties were described, Elder Scrolls fans:' It's frickin' Umbra, with the name from Mephala's Daedric Artifact!'

lol the Ultraverse was the Reality where shoulder pads ruled all and everyone was a body builder.
Dane is Marvel's best character and I will box anyone that tries to argue this, I recommend some of the more recent stories he's had, the Frank Tieri run is AMAZING and the Si Spurrier run was Marvel's best book in 2021.
Just a couple of notes: it's not Sir Percival, it's Percy. Also, all of Dane's horses are Tolkien references: Valinor, Aragorn, Strider, & Galadriel.
Rob, this was an awesome video. I appreciate all your attention to detail in researching this character. It shows in the video. Amazing how much history there is to this character but you hardly know of him. Thanks for filling in the spaces.

The final comment made is one that's true but unfortunate in my opinion that the comics follow in suit with the movies instead of the other way around. Not to say the movies are bad by any stretch, I just tend to prefer the comic lore over the MCU lore changes

It seems to me that the Black Knight is just boring, especially when compared to a lot of the Japanese sword-wielding heroes, like Cloud. Have you seen Cloud’s sword? It’s HUGE!
Maybe in the MCU Thanos was well aware of the Celestials and how they're born. and that's why he blinked out half of the universe population 🤔
What are they doin with this guy man. This character has so much potential BLACK KNIGHT how cool is that name. And for crying out loud just give him an all black knights helmet. How long will it take fir them to realize that would look awesome?? The bloodlust sword is cool too. This is pretty much just an empty canvas of a character since they spread him so thin putting him in everything. Hopefully they do him up in this movie. 👍

I enjoy the black knight. Hes not my favorite character by any means but I will say that having just watched the eternals for the 1st time I spent the entire movie pretty much disinterested. By the end I said alright just show me the reason why I watched this movie. Like yea eternals 2 I really only care if black knights there
He's a do nothing hero. He hasn't done anything to affect the marvel cannon. You could remove him and nothing would change. A swing and a miss by Marvel.

If they stay true to the comics, he has no powers. He has a magic sword, a flying horse and some tech.
Fun fact: Black Panther was in possession of the Ebony Blade with his ceremonial armor on.

[Shame about Dane Whitman as the Black Knight. Always liked him as the wielder of the ebony blade from a single issue side story where his future offspring by a couple generations faced him in a time travel short. The blood taboo made it loads more compelling and could be tied in to so many existing stories!✌🏼🧐]

I remember seeing a cameo in Earth’s mightiest heroes serie, I was intrigued and started reading the comics to learn more about him, he was my main heroe in the avengers Facebook game ( can’t remember the name)

90s Black Knight was the WORST. Stupid light-saber, Weird relationship with Sersi, & then with that hussy Crystal. Not slüt-shâming but she's been sleeping with other men even when she was with Quicksilver waaaay back in the day.
