One of their greatest songs. The way Gibbard repeats that line is so strange and hauntingly beautiful. I miss that experimental flavor this band used to have more of.

I met Ben at the concert at trees, Dallas. I saw him walk south on elm about thirty minutes before the show. Sold out show. Figured I take a chance to find someone selling a ticket outside the venue. A quick drive by squashed my hopes. Nothing but eager concert goers. Continued driving and saw an open parking space right on elm. Very rare at this time of night, took it as a sign. Walked towards trees. Saw Ben gibbard. I approached him and said, “hey Ben, big fan of your music”. He said thanks. I then said, I met you before, at the postal service show, tea room, ‘02-03’. He gave me a good look, and took a step back. He remembered. We had a drunken conversation (me, solely the drunk one). He replied, “I remember you” I told him my name, “Abe” and then continued, I don’t have a ticket. Without skipping a beat, he said follow me, and he led me to his tour manager, who was on the phone discussing a postal service, dcfc concert possibility. The manager led me in, got me situated. I left promptly after their set. Closed my bar tab, bought two dcfc shirts, then exited, only to see the band loading their gear into the bus. I yelled, “thank you, Ben!” And this motherfucker. Ben gibbard. He replied, “no! Thank you, Abe!” He f’n remembered my name.

I'm always remembering the guitar interlude part from "we laugh indoors" when I'm doing random stuff

I would kill to know how Chris gets those eerie sustained tones throughout the song.
    So incredible.

I'm 13 years late to this comment but I'm positive he uses an E-Bow on the studio version!

Never the same after he left.
And Chris is known to use the volume knob for his swell, beautiful control.

I just saw Death Cab For Cutie 2 days ago in Vancouver. They are super-talented young musicians.
