  • Many sources indicate that the First Crusade began in the year 1096, as it was planned by Pope Urban II, but the first wave of the First Crusade, known as the People's Crusade, embarked late in 1095. Here is why.

Please forgive the very sudden cut to the ending. I had to clip out a little copyrighted segment in TH-cam Studio, which made my transition a bit abrupt. The short scene that was flagged was from the movie Kingdom of Heaven (2005) in which Balian asks Saladin what Jerusalem is worth. Saladin says, "Nothing," and turns to leave. He walks a few paces and turns back to Balian and says, "Everything."

Hi is there any evidence on Christian suffering by Muslims before the crusades? Can you link it?

I don't know if there is any hard evidence to support the "suffering" of Christians. In this video essay I was analyzing the texts within the book "Chronicles of the Crusades" edited by Christopher Tyerman. This book includes texts written by people during the crusading period.
As with any historical text, it is hard to separate pseudohistory from factual history. What we can say, however, is that people in Christendom believed there was a threat to Christian lives and that was enough for them. Whether or not those beliefs were founded in reality is another matter that may be too elusive to know for certain.
I hope this kind of helps answer your question, but if you wanted to read more about the lead-up to the crusades, I recommend the book "Crusaders" by Dan Jones.
