  • Examining the Line: Old & Young Masters
This exhibition shows the versatility of the line, and how the artist wielding the pen can do almost anything with it, given the requisite skill and an imagination to match.
In Birendra Pratap Singh's hands, the lines dance on the paper with a life of their own, bringing the surrounds of Patan, Bhaktapur, Kathmandu, Changu Narayan, and many other historic sites to life in his idiosyncratic, inimitable style.
With Prashant Shrestha, the lines initially seems more rigid, yet each stroke is rigorously, perfectly placed, imbuing energy into the 12 dancing figures of the storied four day long Swetakali Jatra and Dance, which happens only once every 12 years, starting at the Naradevi Temple, and moving to the Taleju Temple, its premises, the Kumari House, Kathmandu Durbar Square, and finally returning to Naradevi on the last day.
Each artist has made deep studies of their subjects before embarking upon depicting them, and this kind of profound engagement comes across in the work.
Both artists, old and young, are masters of their technique.
We hope this exhibition gives our visitors a chance to study the exceptional work of two exquisitely talented draughtsmen.
