Redcar still looks great. Those beautiful bright blue shoreline views show true beauty, as good as any other Northern beach. I think the wind turbines look great too, working away to provide clean honest energy, great stuff. I went to the beach as a boy of eight, ten years later I visited the Redcar Jazz club every Sunday night it was on, I saw Mark Bolan and Mickey Finn with Tyranasaurous Rex, then again as T.Rex, curved Air, and many others, a great book is now available on the Jazz club too. I did my o and A levels at Redcar Tech, and met Allison my girlfriend, I wonder what she is doing now? That was in 1973. I love Redcar, so many happy memories. I still visit for fish chips, wh ich are as good as ever, also visit the Magdaline, a wonderful real pub.
I remember a busy sea side resort as a child, played on trampolines on the beach and rode donkeys ate fish n' chips and lemon top ice creams. You can now find the donkeys in the council offices, who spend their days ruining the town on a daily basis. I also remember all the sand going missing with storms at one point revealing the rocks beneath and the final demise of the pier in a storm in 1978. The total disintegration of the pier after many ship collisions after it was originally built, was provided by Redcar council, who just left it to rot and then replaced it with a laughing stock.
I was brought up in Redcar, a video of mine tells this and re the clock on my TH-cam site. At 7:37 on you video there is a shop in front on the right, that was the cloths shop. I bought my first shirt there back late 70's. I also believe, let me know otherwise, that it was once called the windmill Cafe. It was where the six bladed windmill, painting displayed at Morrison's, once stud. My Uncles great etc grandad built it, but it blew down. My Uncles brother, Brian Petrie, a builder in Redcar discovered behind a bricked up wall inside, the workings of the windmill. What are the chances of the builder of the windmills great etc grandson discovered the remnants of his windmill. Amazing. I also believe that my mum and dad, passed away now, met at that jazz club known as the coatham hotel, when it was a dance hall in the 50's or at least danced there.
@JasonSmartTravel Sorry, I have read from my Auntie Grete, husband of my uncle whose great etc grandad built this windmill, that the windmil Cafe was actually in station Rd, Redcar, around the corner, and the workings of the old windmill where found there by the builders, my uncles brother, great etc granson of windmill builder. If your in Redcar again and enter Morrison's from the covered carpark area and walk up the slopping ramp into Morrison's, you will see the large painting of the windmill with six blades. There is no picture of this Morrison's painting anywhere on the internet. A great peace of hidden Redcar history but very little documented. You might want to make a video about it? God bless. Philip
@@JasonSmartTravel I actually found a drawing from way back with six bladed windmills and the, but, four bladed windmill in station Rd, and a couple of black and white photos of the same but with out the sails. But can't get it to you. So my aunt was right, I believe a modern day church stands on the site today. Well done. God bless. Philip from Redcar, now living in Australia.
The must see venue in Redcar is the historic Pacitos Ice cream parlour on the seafront They invented the Redcar institution the Lemon Top icecream. The newly restored Regent cinema restaurant is an amazing venue when the tide is in as the glass balcony is surrounded by seawater. on 3 sides .Also on the beach is an amazing colony of Sand Martins than return each summer from South Africa. Finally the recently restored Redcar Kirleatham walled garden is a fantastic venue
I worked all over Europe on industrial steel plants ect and all the steel to build these places had dorman long Middlesbrough stamped all over them even the train stations in places like Bilboa and Belfort France built from British steel.
This video followed a 1960s Redcar that I,d been watching and there,s a big difference, take a look. I was in my early teens and could easily have been one of the crowds. It takes me back with nostalgia cos I live in New Zealand now and emigrated here 24 years ago from Thornaby-on-Tees.
The steel from Redcar also cross the ocean to Thailand (Siam) to build our *Memorial Bridge in Bangkok (by Dorman Long & Co / finished in the same years of Sydney Harbour Bridge 1932) nice to see many good things from your TH-cam channel 📌👍
Born in Hartlepool at one time I was the Manager of the Redcar Electricity Board Showroom. I loved working there. Fresh bracing sea air, fish and chips and seagulls. There's nowt better. ❤ x
I’ve lived in Redcar all my life , yes the best thing about the town is the beach. However Redcar is now an absolute shit hole , the council has destroyed the once Victorian promenade with hideous concrete shelters , carbuncle buildings like the Hub , the Horrendous Beacon and tuned-in. The once busy town centre now consists of empty dilapidated shops, pound shops, charity shops and takeaways. I cannot imagine why on earth anyone would want to visit Redcar and pay the extortionate parking fees to do so. I suggest avoid the turnoff and continue to Saltburn-by-the-sea instead , where they have kept the Victorian Heritage alive and much more pleasant to visit than Redcar.
I grew up in Saltburn, and 25 years ago, it had big problems with heroin addicts due to all the b&bs (none of which are there anymore), and huge problems with massive gangs of teenagers drinking and causing havoc. The council gentrified Saltburn. They priced all the undesirables out. You'll now pay £600 a month for a crappy, damp-ridden 1 bedroom flat on the jewel streets.
Redcar is a cess pit. Always has been and always will be. Shops are closing down all the time, there’s only a handful of struggling retailers left, the rest are phone shops, or charity shops. Parking charges are going up in a bid to encourage people to visit - great idea Redcar and Cleveland Council.. Scruffy, litter strewn town centre.. it’s a shame, the place could offer so much potential.
@@elenaash4289Saltburn has been gentrified. It's now a hell of a lot posher than Redcar. Redcar is a shithole. It's got huge problems with drugs and violence.
Thank you Jason. I have seen some bits of Redcar in the past couple of years, but this has opened my horizons ...

I had no idea it existed until the day before I went
Sorry but the headland or old hartlepool is the premier sea spot
Lots of towns going same way...Sheffield spending billions on town centre but still a dump.
0:16 camerawork whilst driving?!!
I'm local , and I call it Redcar , not re'ca
The only good thing about Redcar is the road out!😅
Well that's a matter of opinion! lol
Look better without the nasty wind turbines in the sea.
Decent beach .. the town is an absolute cack hole
Blackpool is worse.
