I don't like the square footage method too much. I just look at each room and estimate how long it will take me. The rolling isn't time consuming, so it comes down to how fast you can cut.
Sounds like you been painting enough to know per square ft is a horrible base line❤too many variables, good man!
Ps I would rather paint 50,000 square feet of wall then 1,000 linear ft of crown molding

for the $8500 home, how much of that was spent on paint? and how many days did it take to finish the job?
It would be about 20 gallons of wall paint and 3 gallons of trim paint(semi gloss) 5 gallons of ceiling paint. For me about $1000 at sherwin Williams. Pro mar 200. Eggshell
How do you charge for fixing wall imperfections such as dents, holes, cracks, and etc for a home that have an abundance? A few nails holes there and there are fine, but I've encounter some where it took a lot of time just fixing the wall imperfections in comparison to just painting.
This was one of the most honest, straight-to-the-point and thorough explanations I have seen so far as I compare my prices to standards. Thank you!
Now this is all calculated before material cost as far as paint and masking brush etc ?
Surface area is just half the battle sometimes. How much furniture etc.. and especially how much preparation. I personally like to bid on time and materials. Because that’s what I know. Lots of painters measure by the square foot. Would you adjust the dollar amount on the square foot if there is lots of prep? Would you use the square footage as a starting point then addon for more than usual prep, moving furniture, oil based products, high ceilings etc….

So if I take your method and apply it to a 14 x 10 room with 8 foot ceilings, 2 doors, and a window, with standard baseboard you'll fall between $925-$990. Or roughly $6.60/sq' of floor plan on the low end. So you are on the high side of Angi's, fixr, and others pricing of $3.50-$7 per sq foot according to 2023. if you can get that you go. In the Fredericksburg VA area we have donkey's painting houses for $2.50/sq foot of floor plan with paint included, and builders want you to paint $700k homes for $1.40/sq' with paint included. If we all got what we should be getting we could make a decent living at this. I fall about $4- $4.75 right now and it's still a struggle to survive.
When you say "of floor plan" maybe that is why your struggling to survive. No disrepect intended, But you should be should be charging by the sqft of wall space and linear ft for trim you should only use floor plan space mostly for figuring ceiling sqft. Hope that helps
@@leeporter6926lol that’s funny, dude is charging 4-5x less than he should be and is complaining about not being able to survive almost like he forgot there’s 4 walls and a ceiling per room… NO painter who goes by sq foot goes by the floor size, they go by the amount of sq ft being painted

This is how I actually price. The company I worked for chargers way more than that so I figured $2.50 sq f for ceiling and walls was on the cheaper side. Then .50-$1.00 linear foot trim, and $50 a door

Painter here, I would charge about $2200 minimum. Theirs factors to consider like wall damage, how many coats need to be applied, type of paint you prefer etc.

when i quote a customer i tell them to buy the paint because they stay with the paint or primer, unless they ask for me to pick it up the paint ill include it in the price i charge.

I’m a private painter and do everything myself and I still don’t charge that much.Painters compete against each other so usually it’s a hell of a lot lower price then what your video states.
I agree I'd be approximately 20% less and it's a reason I don't have to advertise or estimate 50 jobs to land one. We have about a 50% closing rate on projects.
I’m curious, what is your gross profit margin with being able to keep your price so low? We are typically at about 44%
@@jacintablackmon6547 I can paint an interior by myself in 2 days ,customer buys paint,I get my materials free from my other job and make around $2000 every job which is usually 2 to 3 days max.All profit.I receive my calls for work from word of mouth from real estate agents I know.
How is it going. I booked an office space gig with one company last year and they pay a flat rate for standard size/office studio .they provide paint. flow of work is not as consistent but great for me to get my feet wet. I tried to ramp up my work and called other commercial office space company. I introduced my services as a painter and she said they need painters and were interested. She asked me what my numbers were and I wasn't sure what to tell her ,for not want to price myself out of work. So I asked her what her budget was and what they were paying out. She said her average rooms are 9x9s. And they are paying $90 just for paint (no prep work/nail pops/drywall repair). I tried to work out the math and it seems that a 9x9 is 81sq ft. And they are paying 1.11 per sq footage of room (not walls)- another question in itself - Should I charge on wall square footage or room square footage. Then she proceeded to ask me my numbers for prep work such as nails pops for drywall repair. and said she would follow up to ask me my numbers. Seeing as how they already seem to be on tight budget as they are a small company.I have no estimating system for prep work or just random regular nail holes that are scattered and can't find how to price that for her when she follows up. What do you suggest, I would greatly appreciate the help.
I gave a guy $1000 for a 3 bedroom and 1 1/2 bathrooms he sprayed, rolled, trim! And I supplied the paint, tools got it done in one day. I guess it’s not what you know is who you know.
There you go! I’ve been a real estate investor for 25 plus years… if I paid these prices I would be hard pressed to profit

That's cheap he probably didn't own a company where he paid insurances u have to charge more when u have more going out
