How much does it cost to paint an exterior home in 2024

Several factors determine how much it costs to paint a home's exterior in 2024.
First, if the house needs much prep work or a simple cleaning. If there is peeling paint on most surfaces, it can double the price.
A second important factor is whether the surface is porous. Porous services like brick, rough stucco, and efis surfaces can require twice the paint of non-porous surfaces such as vinyl siding or hardy board.
Porous surfaces also will require more labor per square ft.
A third final consideration is how the paint is applied. When there are limited obstructions, such as doors and windows, spraying is a good option and can reduce costs.

This was such a a great video, thank you!! I'm curious what do you typically use for exterior paints? And also if you don't mind, do you have an opinion on SW's new(ish) emerald rain line? I'm a pretty die hard Emerald girl for my interior projects and just starting to get bids for my exterior (I've hired for interior but defaulted to doing it myself after a really bad experience a few years back at an old house, so I'm nervous for the hiring part). Maybe my math is off, but at $1 sf for aluminum siding for a 1500 sf house (2 story), with lots of open space between a dozen windows - should run, max: $3000?

Companies don't deduct labor for windows and doors because they actually slow production down by about 30%.
