I never considered Sebastian to be an idiot. In the beginning, I saw him as an inexperienced, naive and overconfident rookie. Yeah his reasoning often is garbage, but I met much older law students who made equal or worse mistakes. After I learned about his family situation it became clear to me that he isn't stupid, just stuck in a very peculiar situation. He isn't challenged or corrected by his surroundings thanks to his father's influence. At the same time, he is gaslighted by his asshole father. This created a character who struggles with both overconfidence and low self-esteem at the same time. It's great to see that Edgeworth at that point pretty much took Sebastian under his wing because I have a feeling things wouldn't end well for Sebastian if he was left on his own :(
He's an idiot, but it's not his fault. His father used connections to get him to a station he truly is undeserving of. He's so stupid, even Larry BUTZ calls him out on it!
and this is precisely why calling him Useless Whiner is a dick move. it isn't his fault. it's condemning him over something he has no control over, and frankly i can imagine Blaise saying "I should have named you Eustace because you're so useless" as an insult.
