Yeah some of these options seem like they'd have really funny dialogue in ace attorney fashion so it's a shame that so many of them are generic penalty lines. Also i couldn't resist when I had the option to pick the "failure as a person" line. I love Sebastion but come on, that's the only thing to pick on the first go
One thing I never understood about logic chess was the need for a clock. As someone who likes stopping every once in a while to theorize about what will happen next, or why certain logic holds, the timer seemed to be directly aimed at preventing you from doing that, or at least making it harder to do. From the puzzle standpoint the timer is basically irrelevant, as it's too easy. The only exception maybe is Lotta's logic chess where you get a lot less time than in any other logic chess for whatever reason, still very easy
I suppose it's based on chess pros and people on chess tournaments, who play on a timer. And when the timer ends it's over. Though it also supposedly represents the patience the other person has to converse with Edgeworth, which means they leave when it's over. Blaise Debeste also had shorter time, because he could leave whenever he wanted or something. Or a mix of the two. I'm not certain about it myself either, ngl
I assume the chess thing is what they were going with, but I see it as a bit of a weak argument considering how they also assume that every decisive game ends in checkmate when in fact most of them end with a resignation (which if you ask me, would be a lot more fitting for the game really. The only one who truly felt like he got checkmated in his logic chess was Gustavia imo, as he truly didn't want to give up)
@@santiagorodriguez2940 true. It did feel a bit unnecessary having a time limit, but I think it was still a fun new mechanic that I'm missing from the mainline games :(
My issue with Logic Chess is that when you fail, all it results in is 1/20th of your Truth Bar depleting (even less than a standard penalty). At first I thought it’d just be an instant Game Over (which would make more sense; they leave and then you can’t progress the investigation). But to penalise you even less than normal for failing something that’s difficult to fail in the first place?
There's a lot of choices that would be morally wrong to say but *curiosity says: "what'll happen if I said that?"* Having emulator's save states answers that without any consequences (I know the game has saves as well but emulator's saves are much quicker), but the potential to funny dialogues always ends in the boring "I have you cornered". But in the *Debeste's Logic Chess* there's a way to see a dialogue of *Edgeworth bullying Sebastian's emotions:* at the very beginning of the battle when you're choosing what line of questioning to use at Sebastian, if you choose the obviously wrong and asshole choice *Edgeworth will act like a dick **-Gumshoe-** and makes Sebastian cry even more.* Then after all that, you'll be punished with all the time left disappearing, *losing the Logic Chess right away.*
I know. Of course it was the very first thing I did on my first play through and I was damn absolutely not expecting an immediate failure of thr logic chess, lol
Y'know, I was just thinking that "wait and see" was pretty much always the correct answer for these, huh? That said, that punchline at the very end got me lol
I thought "OMG I NEED TO HUG HIM SO BADLY HE NEEDS A HUG" as soon as I saw him like this :( Also at 0:47 it wouldn't make sense for that choice to give a generic response, because iirc the "non-chess piece" choices never ever give a generic response if they wrong.
you actually do get some unique dialogue is pick the option similar to that in investigations 2 (it's not exactly like that, but something along those lines)
There were a few cases where wrong dialogue gave a unique response, but the only one I remember is telling Sebastian he has no redeemable qualities (which ended the chess immediately). Other than that, the vast majority of wrong answers lead to the "I have you cornered" answer. Because when Sebastian said "I thought you'd say "Objection" like you always do" and Objection was one of the answers, Edgeworth says the Cornered response and it disappointed me xD
I agree with Edgeworth in this video, what's the point of picking the wrong answers if they don't give any funny or unique dialogue. I know wrong answers give time penalties, but the fact that nothing unique happens or is said makes it not worth it to either say the wrong thing or to wait and see when you should say something.
Nooo edgyboy don't make Sebby cry I gotta love how in my mind Debastian and Sebastian are two completely separate entities and I can tell them apart Debastian (as in your intros) is smart and somewhat refined Sebby is an adorable cinnamon roll and a dummy
