    Holy Cow! I had come to hate this device because there were no instructions included with the unit. We had a whole HVAC unit installed with this thermostat. Your video saved the device and provided me with all the info I needed to use it wisely. Thank you so much.

      Yes me too! What the heck is it with no instructions in the box? I am a disabled senior and I was stressing so bad on how to use this. The A/C guy came back and nicely programmed it for me because I couldn't figure it out as I do "time of use" with my electric provider. He explained a little but was still confused. I need to know for myself in case I need to make changes. I watched one video and was so lost. Then found this one and he did a great job!. My Ecobee 3 Lite is interface is slightly different but being slightly techy I could still find where to find things.

    My Ecobee 3 Lite has a bit different interface. But your video was tremendously helpful. I was so frustrated with no instructions in the box, dispite AC guy coming back to set it up for me. I am hands on and needed to know how to do it myself. Being able to pause due to my old brain, lol helps me tremendously. I have saved this if I have to check back on something. The frustration is now gone. Thank you so much!

    I just finished watching this 2nd video of yours regarding the Ecobee3, after watching the first one. My new Ecobee3 just arrived in the mail today and thanks to your GREAT videos, it was a breeze to install and set up. I can't thank you enough for the great job you did in producing these videos. You covered everything and I couldn't be happier!

    This device is effective but incredibly difficult to use day to day. I have spent hours staring at it trying to set temps since it was installed a year or so ago. This video is very helpful, but if the unit were well designed I would not have to consult a video each time I need to make an adjustment.
    Sleep Home Sleep. What could be more confusing?
    This unit could win an award for Most Non-intuitive Device Used in the Home.

    Hi! Thanks for your video. You missed the explanation on the AC overcool max. I honestly hate this thermostat. I’m just trying to have my temp set to a certain temperature and the system keep overwriting it. I want it to be 74f night and day and it keeps getting down to 69-70 (even when it’s over 80F outside). Already turned off the fan, humidity control, set up the schedule and comfort settings to 74F to no avail. Does anybody have an idea what is going on? I’m really tempted to just go buy a Nest at this point. I’ve used Nest before and never had issues like this.

    • @youdontknowme5969
      @youdontknowme5969 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      AC overcool max is if you had set up your ecobee to also mimick humidity control. If humidity is high, will attempt to dehumidify your home by running your AC _longer_, colling _below_ your set temperature, but no more cooler than this threshold. I have this disabled.
      About keeping one set temperature all the time, I set my hold mode to "Hold until I change it" and it ignores the schedules. I did set Home and Away temperatures (I don't use Sleep) and I just don't use the Schedules (I work from home and then may be away for days at a time). So I really only use the "Home for now" and "Away for now" options. Another clue is after if you change the temperature it pops up "## and holding," then you know it'll keep that indefinitely until you change it. But if instead it says "## until [time]" then it's not holding indefinitely and will fall back to a schedule.

    I just had this installed and found this an extremely great overview ! The irony though, I specifically was interested in what you might say about the AC Overcool Max and you look to have skipped it. I am debating using a couple degrees there in the summer as I have slightly high humidity inside.

    Great explanation, but I want my fan to stay on all of the time. I have a whole house air cleaner which needs to run all of the time. All I see here is the choice of “Auto” for the HVAC fan. I have set it “On” in the other selection panels. Will that allow it to stay on constantly?

    I didn't see an option to adjust Heat Differential Temperature (i.e. temp swing). The website says this should be in the threshold menu but I don't see it on this video. I have a Sensi right now that cycles too often, even on the slow setting. If I set temp for 75, it'll turn on before it even says 74 on the thermostat. I want it to be able to drop a couple degrees before it kicks on rather than cycling all the time and wearing out the HVAC equipment. Can anyone confirm this is an adjustable option ont the Ecobee 3 Lite?

    I WISH it had a specific "Pre Time of Use" PTOU and "Time of Use" TOU modes added to the comfort settings. That way if your Time of Use starts at 4PM to 8PM, you could select "Pre Time of Use" "PTOU" to kick in 45 min before, and either blast the heat or crank up the A/C for the 45 min preceding time of use, then it would switch to TOU setting (say 4PM to 8PM) where it dials down the system during time of use hours, then it resumes to HOME or AWAY or SLEEP mode. That way your house stays relatively comfy while the system is idling during TOU hours. Even better the TOU mode could adjust stage 1 time to say 30 min, before escalating to stage 2, during TOU, and or limit stage 2, to 10 min (or so) max during TOU hours.

    • @ShadowAlmighty
      @ShadowAlmighty 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You would need to setup a new schedule in the middle of the night, called "Away" or "Home" and set it for the shortest time, 30 minutes. Then add another "Sleep" schedule right afterwards with the lowered temperature. Not the best solution, but I think it would work.

  • @zack9912000
    @zack9912000 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    As a hvac tech doing way too of extreme temperature swings will cost you MORE energy then it will ever save you. No only does it have to heat or cool your air, it also has to remove or add energy from objects as well. It will require your equipment to work harder and longer to reach your home temperature. It is always advised to never go more then a two degree change.

    • @pjmuffin
      @pjmuffin 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It depends on how long you will be away. Most sources say that if you will be away for more than 8 hours, it makes sense to increase/decrease your temperature setting a maximum of 5 deg F. It also depends on your system. A heat pump should maintain a nearly constant temperature whereas a gas or oil furnace can be set for 5 agree away temperature swings.

      This means your ecobee isn't detecting the Y1 terminal properly.
      Remove the thermostat off the wall, and check if there is a wire connected to Y1. If there is, all we need to do is reconfigure the ecobee.
      Reconfigure the ecobee:
      Main Menu > Settings > Installation Settings > Equipment > Reconfigure Equipment
      1.-I am a Home Owner
      2.Yes, only Rc is connected
      3.-Make sure Y1 is highlight.
      Continue on the setup process.
      Now, to turn on the system mode cooling:
      Main Menu > System > HVAC > Cool

    Our HVAC company techs are replacing our E-3 with something else right now. Tech support at Ecobee refused to cover a defective unit that is clearly still under warranty. It keeps dropping the time and date, rendering the programming moot. Reset it manually, and the time/date drops again in minutes. I refuse to give Ecobee any new sales because they WILL NOT stand behind their product.
