    Very informative video, thank you! I’ve been enjoying your channel for a month or so now and always look forward to the new videos. Do you have any tips you could incorporate in a video regarding how to care for your notes? Specifically, any tips for how to safely remove and replace notes in currency sleeves? Sometimes I get a lot of resistance from the sleeve that causes the note to bend or not go in smoothly. Thanks again for the great content, gives me something to enjoy and look forward to on my lunch breaks!

    • @Stuplubakcurrency
      @Stuplubakcurrency  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well thank you very much! You aren't the only one that can struggle with those sleeves. There is nothing worse than finding a great note and then being the one who folds a corner in the holder! Generally, I will put a finger inside each end to stretch it a little. You can almost see the front and back of the holder separate. That's as far as I've ever thought about it. But here is an interesting thing. The reason for the difficulty is static electricity. As crazy as it sounds, if you were to rub a dryer sheet on the holder, inside and out, that should remove the static charge, in theory. Be sure to use an unscented sheet to avoid any chemicals. Let me know how it works!

    Huge thank you for posting this video. I needed some more clarity on the markings as I had came across probably one of the rarest first series 2017 true ascending trinary with 6 of a kind, bill serial number 00010002, block A-B, A54 on the bottom right, A5 on the top left, rear plate number is 50. I know the values of a basic trinary, the values of 6 of a kind, I cant imaginge something of this rarity? Anyone who collects low serials, or low numbers is gunna fight like cats and dogs for it.

    • @Stuplubakcurrency
      @Stuplubakcurrency  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I kinda have to disagree. Trinaries have no value. Your 6 of a kind isn’t 6 in a row which just makes it a “one off”. And a low number is under 1000, not 10,000. I am sure someone will buy it but no actual dealer would ever say it’s anything over face value. If it was 00010001, you would have a repeating true binary. Decent money there. But that isn’t what you have. Yours is quite literally 1 off. Sorry. But thanks for watching!

    • @Stuplubakcurrency
      @Stuplubakcurrency  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just to be realistic, I just bought a 1928 $1 star note silver certificate for $50. Which would you rather have? I also just bought a contemporary counterfeit from 1860 for $49. So for less than $100 I got both of those. Better yet, what do you think will be the value of these notes in the future? They aren’t making any more of them. I don’t know what you think yours is worth but I really don’t understand why. With every series and block, there are more printed. I did a video explaining how many different series and reserves (blocks) have been produced in just the last 10 years. We would both agree that a solid serial number is one of the most rare and valuable notes. But since 2013, there have been 175 series and reserve blocks. Multiply that by 8 different solids and you have about 1200 solids out there. And that doesn’t include the current print runs of 2021. There are always more notes being printed. Who ever is making up names for these is doing a disservice to the hobby.

    • @Stuplubakcurrency

      Plates are replaced as they wear out. There is no rhyme or reason when they get changed. Usually the low numbers will match but as the run goes on, anything can happen. Matching plate numbers isn’t anything I have ever looked for while searching over 300,000 notes.

      He has talked about that in a different video. I have always believed it to be an owl too, while others call it a spider. However, it is really nothing but a portion of a design element as seen on the bottom of the note on both the left and right side; there is a little design between the bottom numeral 1 and the words ONE DOLLAR, the very top of that design element is also what we believe is the owl.

    I have a question on the series you stated when only one signature changes that they put a letter a I have two bills showing the series 2017 and 2017a both with the same signatures and also two different signatures change from 2009 series to 2013 series with no series a what does that mean are they arrivals two of them are Star notes and two are not

    • @Stuplubakcurrency
      @Stuplubakcurrency  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The signatures are just an example. Any time there is a change to the note they change the series. It could be a change to a plate or even a new batch of ink. They don’t usually explain what they are changing for security purposes. Star notes are replacement notes. When there is a mistake in the print, they remove the problem notes and insert a star note. This keeps all of the other notes in numerical order even though the star note would be out of sequence. This way every brand new strap starts with xxxxxx01 and ends with xxxxxx00.

    I have a set of 4 consecutive serial # but 2 of them have the same print plate letters and numbers

    • @Stuplubakcurrency
      @Stuplubakcurrency  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I want to say that is because there are a couple of plates on the drum that prints the notes. It is very likely that consecutive numbers would alternate plates.

  • @cmsilver552
    @cmsilver552 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    So you can't tell a note is a mule unless you know which plate number went with what year?

    • @Stuplubakcurrency
      @Stuplubakcurrency  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Going way back, there are some mules where the font size is ever so slightly different. But for the most part, the number itself is the best identifier.

    I know this is an older video, but I'm not sure where best to ask if someone knows this... If F-P is the block, like on the example note in the video, to my knowledge, if any notes need to be replaced, they will replace the P with a star. What happens if, later, a note from the F-Q block with the same serial number needs a replacement note? If you replaced the Q with a star, you'd have an identical sequence.

    • @Stuplubakcurrency
      @Stuplubakcurrency  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question! The blocks have nothing to do with star notes, though. The first letter has to do with which Federal reserve is responsible for the note. Not all federal reserves have stars for any given series. The next letter is the number of times they rolled through 100 million notes. Stars are printed as their own run and with their own numbering system. A large print run for stars would be only 20 million. Long before you would ever need another letter. Imagine a pile of star notes just sitting next to the press. When an error is detected, the bad note is removed and replaced with the next available star note regardless of the serial number. The top note in a strap will be ******01 and the last note will be ******00. If one note in the strap is bad, that note is replaced but the rest of the strap is intact to not mess up the numbering system. These are the RARE stars that are valuable. You are lucky to find one of these. If there was a cutting error or an ink spill that ruined the entire strap, they could replace the entire strap with stars that are in order. These are the common stars that aren't really worth that much. Hope this answers your question!

      @@Stuplubakcurrency Yes, thank you! That was an excellent reply. I think I fully understand it now. I know very little about collecting, and, at least at this point, I don't have a lot of interest in serial numbers or star notes, so I had never noticed that the serial numbers of star notes are all low. I'm always looking out for those rare star notes, though.

    • @Stuplubakcurrency
      @Stuplubakcurrency  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The letter "L" refers to San Francisco as the Reserve bank for which this note comes from. There are 12 different reserve banks and they have letters from A-L. The second letter represents the number of times they went through 100 million notes. F tells you that this is the 6th time. All of this info is on every note printed. If it is from a certain year or if it has a cool serial number, it could be worth money but so I don't have enough info from you to determine if it's worth more than face value.

    • @Stuplubakcurrency
      @Stuplubakcurrency  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Short answer, yes! Long answer... A solid (8 of a kind) goes for thousands. 7 in a row could be hundreds. Even 6 in a row could be $10 to $30 or more depending on the specific number. With 6 in a row, people want zeros and they want them either leading or trailing. You have the trailing zeros. Good find!

      What series is it?
      There's been a recent change to the way the serial numbers and seals are printed. The newer equipment uses LEPE and leaves in all notes ending in 9999 and 0000. However, with the older COPE equipment, those are almost always taken out and replaced with star notes.
      If you know the series you can look up how that note was overprinted - alternatively, you can look at the plate position (if it's LEPE, the number will be the same size as the letter). If you have a LEPE overprinted note, it's still worth quite a bit. If it's COPE overprinted, it will be worth way more, because notes with the 0000 ending almost always get replaced!
