Gosh, I really hope he is still in the biz when I graduate Highschool, Cause I really wanna go to a con and meet Jim, he is by far my favorite artist and Idol, I really gotta meet him.
This is unbelievable. The guy just takes a mechanical pencil and just expansively draws out his canvas like it was nothing at all. How could he possibly get this good at doing something like this?! I could never do this in all the days I've drawn stuff on paper. This guy is like Mozart drawing on paper.
i used to watch this when i was in highschool... the malcom X hat is a dead giveaway - 90's all the way baby - COMICS and HIPHOP music were at their peak!!!!
Thank you sooooooooooooo much for posting these. Jim Lee is my personal Hero and I had never seen this before. It's absolutely great, and you totaly rock for sharing these with the world!
jeez, it takes him a couple seconds to draw the perfect hand and it takes me about 50 mins to draw something that looks...almost...like a hand. i wish i could draw like Jim Lee. I especially love his art work in Hush.
There's this awesome stop motion animation video called "Inevitable Alliance" that my friend and a group of art majors from St. John's University made. It's all done using 3000 photos of Marvel action figures and it has a nice surprise ending. I can't post a URL so just do a search for "Inevitable Alliance" and check it out. All 5 star votes so far :)
On average, a comic book artist can draw one page of sequential art per day (this includes the "thumbnail sketch", a larger layout, drawing the final panels and forms on the page). Jim is currently one of the best in the business, and he can draw incredibly fast (he once drew me a Batman head shot that took him literally a few seconds), but, ironically, the books he draws are often delayed because he's often swamped with work.
Like a poster further down said, like six degrees of Kevin Bacon, you learned from a person, who learned from a person, who learned from a person etc who learned from Kirby.
The fact that he drew that guy in like 5 minutes is insane, but I guess that's why he is a comic book artist, does anyone know how long it takes an artist to make a whole comic book?
ok so ive always been told to start with a stick figure and then pipe, and then work detail i heard all the pros start that way this guy just starts at step 3 and is just quick! unreal...
@XxArkhamxAsylumxX I totally agree. I mean stan lee is an old old man.. born in 1922.. I really doubt he was actually trying to be someone who is FOURTY years younger than him.
How damn old is Stan lee now!? Lol He looks old here! And this is the 90s! He's still alive and kicking but fresh! He must be immortal or got a hold of his own creation like the Super Solider Serum lol
@chroniclerofthe70s why do people always have to try and top som1 o.o... I like Jim Lee then automatically som1 has to go and say OMG THIS GUYS SOO MUCH BETTER! but id like to see this guy ur talking about? is there a link or somthing to his pictures?
he draws a rough sketch with LIGHT pencil and then with no detail or finishing sketch with a darker pencil.. he go STRAIGHT to markers!?? unbelievable..
The thing is. Stan Lee comes from a different time where the humor he is trying to bring to this vid was actually kinda funny. but nowadays its more obnoxious and rude. I do congratulate Jim on dealing with it like he did
yes he ds. He brought is Spiderman, I think that's permission enough. He's got an old goober sense of humour, he really means well. You should consider the context before you judge someone like that :D
@XxArkhamxAsylumxX No it's people without any humor that doesn't appreciate it. My friends and I talk crap to each other all the time. Everyone I know does that. I even do it to girls I just meet and they've told me it's actually a turn on that I can joke and take joke in such a crude way.
His style may be different, but then you are missing his layout, composition, depiction of action etc, and these are all Kirby. John Buscema looks radically different to Kirby, but learnt a great deal from him. Oft times Kirby pages would be put in front of pencillers, and they would be told "Learn from this". Lee learnt a great deal from artists like Kirby, as well as artists who learnt from Kirby. Every comic book artist learnt from Kirby.
Was this superhero ever found? Because he is oddly like my new superhero APEX that's emerging with similar superpowers. I'm going to wear that glove, I wonder if Stan lee Knows of any Atlantian Warriors related to superman that would have been lost through time.
"there's no way you can replicate reality, nor would you want to." Jim Lee clarifies the common misconception the layman have about drawing. Drawing is about a the artist's imagination of the world is or could be. Drawing can not be replaced by camera! The camera is an idiot, it takes in every thing it sees. The good artist does not replicate reality 100%
Jim Lee was a younger guy back when this was film (early 90s-wearing that Malcom X hat because of the movie) but geez he could have at least lighten up and not be so serious. Jim's a great artist but I rather hear Stan's warm humor any day.
But Lee learned from Kirby. Any artist who says they did not learn from Kirby is lying. It's like an Anime or Manga artists saying they never learnt anything from Osamu Tezuka. Every artist learned from Kirby, and if they do not know who Kirby is, chances are they learnt from an artist who learnt from Kirby, or and artist who learned from an artist who learned from Kirby. Etc.
this guy is literally my hero and inspiration i wouldn't be such a good artist if wasn't for his artwork
90s man it seems like yesterday - that is like 20 years ago.my God makes me feel old
"You make it look so easy!" - Thanks, Stan, for summing up our sentiments! :)
Jim is a really skilled guy. just looking at him in his younger days just bursting with energy is amazing.
The hero looks like New 52 Superman design!
man, Jim Lee makes drawing superheroes so easy! It's Unreal.
Gosh, I really hope he is still in the biz when I graduate Highschool, Cause I really wanna go to a con and meet Jim, he is by far my favorite artist and Idol, I really gotta meet him.

What gets me is how quick he is. Amazing.
He's amazing, he just makes it up as he goes.
Jim Lee's speed and accuracy at drawing is mindblowing
Him and Hogarth did so much for illustration, it's amazing.
Don't forget Jack Hamm, or Andy Loomis. These two are fonts of knowledge which are always incredible tomes to look to for knowledge.
It's amazing how fast and accurate he can draw
'You get your payoff later'. Love it. Stan just predicted Image comics.
A true master at work!
jim lee has an urban personality .funny as hell give him a bubble head crazy and make him look more hipper
dis dude is awn gawd da goat
jim lee and mike turner are my favorite artists.
i love the way he draws i wanna draw like that

I love Jim Lee's Drawing... ^_^

WOW!! this is old, but awesome
Think of it... Stan Lee is with Marvel. Superman is from DC, even though Jim Lee has worked with both...
hahahaha that's really funny. mean, but funny.
This is really cool.
Stan totally sounds done with this guy!!! lol!!!
i like both these dudes
Like a poster further down said, like six degrees of Kevin Bacon, you learned from a person, who learned from a person, who learned from a person etc who learned from Kirby.
Johnny Mexica Tattoo Design loves Jim Lee!!!
The fact that he drew that guy in like 5 minutes is insane, but I guess that's why he is a comic book artist, does anyone know how long it takes an artist to make a whole comic book?
lol "all the work as been done", and in only 30 seconds.
Bridgeman is invaluable.
"this is it" - what i see is a blank white paper...lol thank you alot 240p!
lol, my friend's name is mike turner, but it's not THE mike turner. Jim Lee is awesome, a living legend, a god of the arts.
ok so ive always been told to start with a stick figure and then pipe, and then work detail
i heard all the pros start that way
this guy just starts at step 3 and is just quick! unreal...
Yea 2 the extreme. If the villian has an overbite it be protruding below his chin
he is the best!!!
Damn!!!!!!!!! he is gooooooooood!!!!!! makes my drawings look lie shit!!!
He's the fucking master.
awesomme
He's more like the wise old man, he's not annoying, just a guy who likes to suggest stuff.
He learned a HUGE amount from George Bridgemen though.
I LOVE JIM LEE...... no homo
OMG HES A GOD :O
Jim Lee is awesome. So is Stan Lee.
Hehe, did he just use Kirby dots?
@XxArkhamxAsylumxX I totally agree. I mean stan lee is an old old man.. born in 1922.. I really doubt he was actually trying to be someone who is FOURTY years younger than him.
Jim Lee should draw a Pantera comic book...
the only thing i don't like about Jim Lee is the fact he makes me REALLY jealous.
How damn old is Stan lee now!? Lol He looks old here! And this is the 90s! He's still alive and kicking but fresh! He must be immortal or got a hold of his own creation like the Super Solider Serum lol

Wish someone uploaded this at at higher resolution.

jim really shows a good artist draws with his brain not with his hand
Hey Kirby ain't called "The King" for nothing.
@XxArkhamxAsylumxX No it's people without any humor that doesn't appreciate it. My friends and I talk crap to each other all the time. Everyone I know does that. I even do it to girls I just meet and they've told me it's actually a turn on that I can joke and take joke in such a crude way.
the best!!!
u can tell that jim is intimidated by stan...i would be too...stan is one of five most important people in comics..have some respect, haters.

HOW DOES HE DO THIS?
that he's too...super??? lol just kidding
that other guy will never shut up, he keeps on interrupting Jim lee. its theeeeeeeee best drawing, but a beard!!!!??? wtf
I love Stan Lee but... you should have paid all of your artists more, especially guys like Jim Lee!!
What kind of hamburger did you film this with?
shit, he's good!
Jim Lee was a younger guy back when this was film (early 90s-wearing that Malcom X hat because of the movie) but geez he could have at least lighten up and not be so serious. Jim's a great artist but I rather hear Stan's warm humor any day.

what the old mans deal hes pissing me off
Oh, ok. Thanks. :)
lol! he is kind of aggrivating
🏅
@chroniclerofthe70s oh buscema... those guys are amazing. I actually prefer buscema's style over jim lee's. Just a personal taste.
thats what i do, its so easy that way! i cant draw any other way! D8 its hard to draw stick pipe thingies
he is god

Own?
Anyone here from Binance NFT?
Far more skill on show here compared to the Liefeld one. 😊 Stan seems a little frosty here, was it late in the day? 😏
Do you really draw with your 'elbow'? I mean those sweeping motions are not from your wrist? How can you draw very well if your hand is too loose? @_@
@serzh123aaa
'sigh'...Sarcastic
jim vieni alla scuola del fumetto!!!!
