Props for being upfront about the cost of this project and not just ignoring the hours the team put into it.
Yeah, but i am wandering about having proper end caps, having it one piece long from the start, and having the crane from the start, that would reduce costs total... And wandering if Linus would be open to build his own bunker that is built a bit more, like 3x this one, having "secret tunnels" connections between them, and having secret exit shaft's and actually having it armored and shielded from radiation and acid/radioactive rain.
It's crazy to think that the cost of all those manhours is about the same as the cost of the tube. I wouldn't have guess that intuitively
@@GerblerMhis assessment of labor cost was at $25/hr but that’s general labor costs and very low. something as specialized as a welder would command far more than that. I think true cost of labor would be much higher.
I was thinking the same. Love his transparency with the entire project.
@@Narinjas I agree. wonder how much it extra it would cost to have those extra protections in place (not so much the 3x bigger and secret tunnels or anything). but having a true bunker more than a man cave.
I think you need to build a greenhouse on the surface as a disguise for the entrance shafts. The air circulation equipment would blend into the greenhouse easily.
I think putting it on YT has ruined any sort of hiding.
@@Robert-cu9bm zombies dont watch youtube, hes safe
@@Robert-cu9bm the point isn't hiding it from the TH-cam stalkers, it's hiding it from the roaming bands of wasteland scavengers😂 They can come and pick through the ruins of the greenhouse without noticing that the ruined passive geothermal heating ducts are actually bunker vents... Dude perfect idea

I have a similar but smaller bunker, 8'x27' 10,000 gallon tank buried about 1999. I've spent several tornado and hurricane warning nights and days there. Once hit by lightning while inside it was a loud bang but I was safe not touching any metal. I can't wait to see this finished as mine so far is just temporary shelter from storms. My best advice from experience is constantly maintain ventilation and low humidity. Mold ruins wood quickly and rust never sleeps.
Omg that's amazing, definitely utilize the under floor space, storage, you can hold a ton of water under there. Just get some type of water containment system, or make some type of system to fit under the floor. You Can also get rain water to run down in the system.
I love how your so transparent about this whole thing. Not a lot of youtubers do this. Thank you for the time and effort you put into everyone of your videos.

He said it and he is a master of words and build it for free :)
he also forgot to mention this is all a tax write off because he's filming it for content.
@@teebu and didn't account for the worker salary (he only included the excavtor/telehandler labor)...Anybody doing this themselves would be in for $120 -$150k for welders/fabricators etc

Welcome David! What Zack is doing is very cool! I would have done it very differently, concrete and rebar is a lot less expensive, easier to element/water-proof and a LOT less expensive. But Zack's way of doing it is VERY fascinating!
Hello, I am a fan I am thinking about porting petcii robots to the ti-84 plus ce which has an ez80. This would be a large under taking.
Given the cost of housing right now it may well be the most cost effective way to do it lol.
💀
My bunker that I am building has cost a small fraction of that. You are realistically $150,000 in and you have two pipes in the ground. Holy crap this is going to be a $300,000 bunker. Around $500,000 in Australia would be nice to be able to throw that sort of coin at a project. Well done.

I always enjoy when these American youtubers actually take into account that the rest of the world uses metric. I think this shouldn’t be remarkable but it is, and I think all of us outside of the US appreciate it! Thanks!
Nah we use both exclusively now.
I appreciate it as an American.... we are morons for not using it. but ya 'Murica! or whatever

To have Colin and JerryRig´s projects both happen at the same time is just amazing
I love the difference between the 2 projects. JerryRig's is done loud and proud while Colin's is done very discreetly.
Furzes mining company has been operating for at least a year. I imagine it's quite hard to make a bunker video without doing at the same time as Collin.
Nope.
I would say concerning, why everyone started building bunkers, together with Zuckerberg
amazing or coincidence? im sure they know something is coming….
Dig a borewell next to it
And a water pump , it will always pump water inside the whenever needed . Extra solar panels inside the bunker ,if above solar broken (if you are using solar energy) you can replace it ,
Need some Oxygen cylinders inside the bunker might be useful
Fire extinguisher
And surveillance camera around it
Note on bunkers: you will be amazed what glue from pressed board smells like on a recirculating air system for months or years. Then you will understand why we don't use it un pro bunkers at the state level. Plus it falls apart and hard to replace when you are locked in. Foot traffic 16+ hours a day for 1 year and your filters and floor are hurting.
Just a suggestion, but consider venting the bunker for a few weeks. That osb plywood will off gas glue fumes and even formaldehyde. It's normal in a house because they're well ventilated during construction but inside the bunker is far more contained.
Also, he was cutting it without any type of mask... where you can literally see the fine dust particles flying everywhere (07:10, look at the light). Crazy from a smart guy like him...

Amazing and Inspiring Project Jerry ... Way to go!!!
You should take the same concept as you did with your floor system and create a small “ceiling” and use that upper cavity for water storage. You’d get the benefit of being able to gravity feed your sinks in a power outage.
And a sprinkler system in case of fire when unoccupied.
This is a GREAT idea, but the execution is very difficult to get it right.
You don't want any dead spots where water gets trapped or stagnant. Bacteria will become an issue, and even worse is a mould outbreak. Especially if they seep into the floorboards/ceiling, since Black Mould loves those materials.
Thanks Zack for being open and looking at comments and listening to feedback. We're here to help.
I think "Jerry" should just keep this simple. This is NOT a bomb shelter or doomsday cabin. This is a pretty chill man-cave, or a spare bedroom for guests, and kids. Staying true to this fact will mean his overall build will be quicker, cheaper, and more practical.
He doesn't need to make a ceiling he just can mount some plastic tanks up there. He also can store chlorinated water there to mitigate mold and bacteria. And clean the water with basic activated carbon filter if needed to consume it.
@@nomars4827 dude’s installing a 90 inch TV in his bunker. He’s not just gonna hang random exposed water tanks from the ceiling 😂
If you'll keep fans running in the summer time, when temperature outside is higher than inside the bunker, a lot of water will condense on bunker's walls. One of the possible ways out of this is spray foam insulation.
Better not import heat or cold at all and just use the right ventilation system.
A subscription based mattress is dumb and shilling garbage like this makes you less credible.
Plus you'll end up piping cold air into the environment causing more climate change
Probably not as much as in other places, it’s extremely dry in Utah. Typical humidity is around 20-30%
@@ban80you forgot the part where his "doomsday plan" runs on solar panels and batteries that need to be attended to. A fire hazard underground in a small space, no backup for power(he literally cannot do it now since he didn't plan correctly to have a fuel generator; space, fuel itself, safety. He would need to give up a lot of space to have a backup)
What could go wrong?😂
*Buy a jar of dirt*
Just tuned in- I like what you are doing. Happy it is all working out for you.
Good luck in the new year ✌️
Idea to heat air on the way in: Use a loooooong coiled tube buried deep in the ground. Not sure how long it would need to be, but the idea is to allow the air enough time to absorb warmth FROM the ground during the winter and release warmth INTO the ground during the summer. So you are using geothermal heating and cooling.
So glad you mentioned Furze. He is doing a great job on his, too, so it is fun to see a second person making one, though in a much different way.
4th guy I've watched. Seems to be a popular topic with TH-cam money to burn.
I find myself still puzzling over how you plan to fit in all the essentials such as bedrooms, living room, kitchen, toilet, etc. However, I am eagerly awaiting to see how things will pan out, and I will be keeping an eye on the progress ahead.
I wish you all the fortune and success in your endeavours regardless, Jerry!
It's gonna probably look like rv since its very long and not very wide. Making it easy to use on wheelchair is another problem.
small, thin, plywood or plasterboard walls..
And.. the camera angles from the inside doesn't do it much justice.
All the shots from the inside make the space look smaller than it actually is.
It's bigger than most apartments in New York. I'm sure they'll do just fine.
I think he made a mistake permanently affixing the floor structure this early on. Sure you have tons of storage under there, but it isn't going to be much use if it's hard to put large things under there. For one, he's going to need probably several thousand gallons of water storage, both for clean and dirty water (maybe even a third for drinking water). He also needs to find a place for all of the batteries. It would probably be more beneficial to have them outside the living quarters (ie not under the floor) since they will give off a fair bit of heat. Maybe it will work out and it won't make it crazy hot in there... He also needs to figure out what to do with all of the wiring, waste removal, and air circulation. It would have been a lot easier to go ahead and bury all of the conduit prior to full coverage. Those solar panels (or in all actuality mains power from the grid) need to get in there somehow and have a place to mount in the case of the solar panels.
Also, waste water is going to be a huge issue for them. Where is it going to go? The will need a lift pump of some sort, and unless they have a septic system, they will need to plumb that into the city sewer, which they probably won't be a huge fan of without significant permitting.
They also need to work out ventilation and cooling for in the bunker. Heating is easy. It will always be heated as long as it is in use. People, batteries, and electricity use generate a lot of heat. Having a way to cool it is going to be important. There are some air "powered" geothermal options that may be of some use. However those will require a lot of underground piping which would have been a lot easier to do prior to filling the hole. Also, Where is the exhaust/ventilation system going to be. 2 box fans laying over the hole isn't a a long term solution. I only bring it up because that probably should have been addressed while the pipe was exposed. Probably would have been good to make redundancies for these systems, as in a situation where you need to use the bunker failure of life support isn't an option.
have you seen a tiny home? he's going to have 3-4 x the square footage available that any of those ditzs in their vans have. And that doesn't include being able to store almost everything under the floor.
Wow... Jerry I watched from the First Episode to the seventh episode - I cant wait to watch the final completion with elevator and interior design. You have really done great with this project. 5:06 I never understood this. Atlas bunkers also shows storing water under the floor. You have an excavator on site, a huge hole, put in a water storage tank outside the bunker and save the interior space for provisions. You could also have a pretank that the sump pumps into, then filter that into the main tank.
Atlas has that nice Swiss air filter that would have been a nice addition and they also have a way to keep the condensation out along with the over pressure blast valve
That would require making the hole massively bigger.
@@TheNicog1not really. It would go next to the bunker. And because the tanks would have a smaller height than the bunker, they don't need to sit at the same bottom depth, the sloped sides of the pit give plenty of room for water tanks next to the bunker with plenty of earth above them.
@@TheNicog1 5000 gal is only 140” Diameter x 92” Height. But you can get horizonal tanks, a 1000 H 63 in, W 60 in, D 102 in for instance and line several along main tube.
I gotta admit I love this project. The idea of having your own bunker is so appealing.

Hello. Would you please tell me who is this Colin and about his video
Look for Colin Furze on youtube. He has a lot of bunker building, secret tunnel, underground garage building videos
@@user-wo7rx2lb8s Colin Furze, he's been digging a bunker under his house for a few years now. He lives much closer to his neighbors and so getting digging equipment and stuff in was much harder so for a lot of it he has had to dig it out while underground
@@user-wo7rx2lb8s As said, Colin Furze, he did a bunker a few years ago and then during covid he started making tunnels around his property connecting the house/garage/bunker underground. really cool project.
This one is a bog standard bunker that you can actually buy already done. The only unique portion of it is the elevator. Colin’s is much more bespoke (and neat). There’s nothing bad with bog standard though…it’s a proven design.
Very cool to shoutout to Colin and what he's doing. Keep the content here coming and thanks for keeping track of the "rough" cost, very interesting.
I Love The Fact That You Are Transparent About the Real cost of the Bunker This Is Important Information For Everyone Who Considers Doing The Same At Home !!!
great to see you acknowledge colin i am watching both series at the same time and both of you guys are so talented,
Best part for me was the honesty in the end, where you explained the cost being recouped by TH-cam and merchandise revenue, which may not be applicable to anyone else in the viewing audience. You did a great job of keeping the project well documented and achieving the true goal of funding not a wheelchair. Wish you a great successful happy new year 2024🎉
For water storage in a bunker:
I propose the installation of a substantial underground tank, seamlessly integrated with the bunker. To ensure a continuous water flow and prevent stagnation, connect the tank to the city's water supply. From there, channel the water to the main house, creating a significant, dedicated water source within the city water system. In case of an emergency, the city water supply to the tank can be shut off, providing a reliable reservoir of clean, fresh water. The daily water use in the house will naturally keep the water circulating, eliminating concerns about stagnation.
I was thinking something like this as well. Though the cost of installing such a pipe is actually hilariously expensive (we just had our main pipes replaced). It would be really ‘nice’ system to have. But I think a large underfloor reservoir that you just have pump water in and out of every few months or so is probably a better option, with a stabilizer and secondary filter you can keep water down there for quite a long time
There's no such problem when the water is in a dark underground reservoir without temperature variations
He's already installed huge water reservoirs in his barn.
Is he on city water or well water?
@@woogywips is city water unwell water then?
Thats freaking amazing. I like the whole pre planned aspect of the job. Them huge pipes make it sound and secure for sure.
Everyone knows where this banker is and during bad times, they will be lining up to get in😊
Love how you're always upfront and transparent about your projects. Equal amounts of admiration and envy from my side🤣
Any worry about the newly welded supports that hold the floor having compromised the protective paint on the outside of the tube?
mission accomplished for sure. Your content is premium and you explain things so well.
Love it! Have been wondering about wheelchair access for a bunker. Also excited to find out more about your wheelchair project.
You should have buried earth tubes around the shelter. Then the air intake flows all around the shelter before entering the shelter, raising or lowering the air temp to your in ground 60*. Humid air would condense on the walls and flow downhill into a sump to be filtered and added to your water supply (or pumped outside if contaminated).
Yeah, not only is geothermal missing, but also a proper Swiss ventilation system. It's unclear if there's backup electrical and plumbing from the residential house. He didn't even build a stair case, which is bonkers to me. I can only imagine he's going to install a propane stove or something obscenely dangerous. Seems like no professionals were consulted during this.
@@fidel-3470 As he mentions in the video, his wife is in a wheel chair, there's going to be an elevator in that big shaft. Presumably there will be a ladder or something as backup.
He doesn’t care about making the thing actually work - this is a “for show” project solely intended to generate TH-cam revenue not serve as a longer-term shelter. It would work as a storm shelter in case of a tornado or something.
Massive respect with the complete transparency regarding the cost. Brilliant developments with the project, Zack!

@@MrRussellisawsome Yep. This seems better planned, and much more quickly executed, but Colin has the ability to just do the work himself as he sees fit, and go absolutely nuts with it.
Looks awesome, but I would have used marine ply for the floor instead of OSB which will disintegrate overtime if it gets remotely humid or damp.
If you have a pool, find a way of utilizing a filtration system and pull water from the pool. Then you can stock freeze dried meals without having to worry about additional water use.
Unless there is a nuckear apocalypse, the pool water with a filtration should return you an unlimited water source.

@@rucheeification4945I didn’t think about that, could be, I would’ve just jbwelded that little plate at that point 😂 The whole floor looks pretty overkill to me
I was looking for this comment. I really believed I couldn't be the only one to notice this
You should look up heat recovery ventilation systems used in passive houses to heat/cool the fresh air coming in from outside
Also buried ventilation systems that use the ground heat to pre cool/ warm the air before it is drawn into the bunker. But that requires digging up the yard again so I guess it's to late to build a truly
Low energy heat/ cool system now.
Having fun not hurting anyone!
I love that you've made it accessible
Are you sure about the 90" tv?
This is a very light controlled environment, and any damage / wear on the TV would not be viable to replace. An ultra short throw led projector, with a spare under the floor, sounds easier to maintain for extended durable use.
I get these videos in my recommended and I think that I'll just scrub through the video to see what's up but I always end up watching it all. Really great content.
Thank you!
I do worry about the fact you welded the floor support to the tube. You will not be able to recoat the outside with sealant as you did earlier, as it was burned away, so there is the risk of rust over time.
Speaking of Ventilation, have you thought about RADON ?
Concrete surrounded Steel bunkers still get radon leaching in through the walls.
Positive pressure increase
(by using pressure-regulating "blast vales" on the exhaust piping)
very much reduces Radon ingress,
but MUST be paired with "thru-flowing" ventilation to be effective.
I don’t think an 8 Sleep will work during an apocalypse because there will be no internet😂 Great content and I have been enjoying this series and can’t wait to see the final result.
Even without an apocalypse, subscription to sleep is crazy.

You could use a heat exchanger in the air intake , so you can refrech the air and keep the temps without a big energy loss

Thanks for all the transparency. That's the part I like the most. Can't wait to see you build the interior. I expect a lot of cool tech.
I thought you would have put a septic tank/ water tank and battery under the floor. You could have even made a sewage drainage field at the bottom of the hole. It's coming along nicely 👌
God bless you and your family. Fun content.
Jerry! All good and well, why would you weld in the floor before you insulated the space under the floor ? You’re giving yourself a huge headache to get the insulation, water and electrical things underneath the welded floor.
Another issue might be how to evacuate the water after use and save power. You might think of installing the water tanks just above your bunker as insulation and use the power of using it to charge your evacuation pump batteries.
Just a thought 💭
Nonetheless a stellar idea!

Those small plates, welded to the tube bottom, that's supporting pillars for the floor - I don't remember you show them before, so they were welded now? What about insulation of those spots outside?
I wonder, didn't the welding of the floor struts to the outer hull burn off the corrosion protection in that places?
Came to ask the same, I wonder if maybe the comparatively short weld time meant it didn’t cause the same level of burn?
just wanted to know if the welding being done in this video is in anyway directly being done to the tube directly as the coating will get removed. The plate at the bottom at 6:24 I don't remember seeing it in previous video.
The amount of work put into those snaps.. are no joke 😂
