Hickstead would jump anything you placed in front of him. He soared over all of those jumps and put his everything into what he did. He was such a magnificent horse who went too soon :(
I dont think i have ever seen a horse so happy to do what they do!!!! He really loved doing his thing its so sad about his pass Bless hickstead R.I.P. Hickstead
Just watching this again!!! You can't see any physical cues between the two of them as they do these jumps. I think they had a spiritual relationship! I've been watching Lamaze the past 6-7 years. He's had some good horses, but he's still looking for another horse that touches him like Hickstead did. Bon Chance a lui! Ron Turcotte and Secretariat, Ian Millar and Big Ben, Eric Lamaze and Hickstead, Victor Espanoza and American Pharoah. It's not the horse, it's not the rider, it's the spiritual connection between the two! How many jockeys could have been stars? How many horses could have been stars? It comes down to the touch magic as these two bodies combine into one being. I think it's a rare thing, and we don't see it very often. But I'm so glad to have seen all these superstar pairs.
I saw this performance at FEI in KY that year. This horse was magnificent. He unexpectedly died not long afterwards, and I feel privileged to have seen him perform in my lifetime. One of the greats.
this horse was one in a billion, to produce those 4 clear rounds is unheard of in any other horse, he shall be remembered by everyone in the world. too young to die, rip Hickstead...:(
I'd say greatest jumper of all time. I really looked to up to Hickstead and his rider, especially after they won gold in the 2008 Olympics. I saw Eric and Hickstead ride so many times at Spruce Meadows, and I loved the thrill of watching. I knew back then I wanted to be like that some day. Hickstead was real special not only as an athlete to the world, but he was special to me, being a younger rider, with so many aspirations. RIP Hickstead x
Absolutely tragic. I can hardly imagine the grief Lamaze experienced, his friend dying right beneath him. Hickstead was a champion right up to the very last moment. I predict a movie will be made out of this.
This has to be one of the best videos showcasing Hickstead's amazing one in a million talent. To have 4 different riders & go clear made history. We will never forget you Hickstead!
R.I.P Hickstead you were and still are and amazing horse you,ll never be forgotten so many people would still be cheering you were gone to soon Eric Lamaze insistent ashamed of you and he never was you just dropped he was devastated you tried fighting but this it overcame you You'll live in our hearts for ever R.I.P HICKSTEAD
The way he cantered on from the tripple line was incredible. Power wa just soaring through his back, anyone could tell that hickstead knew he was a bloody champion and could jump like no other.
On the final day of the Show Jumping World Championships, the Final is held over a 1.50m (4' 11") course. Not the 1.60m (5' 3") they were jumping in the previous Team and Individual rounds. Slán
Makes me wish even harder that I could have been at WEG to see him :'( oh well, I got to see this live on TV at least, but to see Hickstead..... was once my dream.
@fuhollywoodxoxo I've not seen a lot of these kind of competitions, where different riders ride the same horse, but it could be to test the riders skill. When you ride the same horse, you get very comfortable with the gaits, and you learn to recognize what makes them "tick". When your switched onto a horse you have never ridden before, it's really a testament to your skill as a rider if you are able to still produce a faultless round. Jumping is just as much horse's as it is rider's skill.
@13triki That's not what happened, and you know it. Hickstead's death was a tragedy, but it would have happened whether he was on that course or not. A horse wouldn't compete on this level if it didn't love jumping, and so Hickstead died doing what he loved. R.I.P. Hickstead, you were a true champion.
I feel so bad for the rider because they would have made a very good friendship Between them but now he has lost hickstead a horse that loves his job but died rip and you will have no pain in horse heaven
this is an awesome video. is it alright if i used the clip in a video i would like to make? i would let people know that it is not my clip and that it belongs to you :)
@PonyMadGirl94 Thanks! I can't tolerate ignorant cowards who only say such hateful things because they can hide "safely" behind their computer screens...ugh!
@13triki Horses will run and jump whether you ask them to or not; their bodies are designed for athletics. If a horse truly didn't love to jump or run he would show it.
I'm so late to this video (by 12 whole years LMAOO) but all the people hissing and worrying that Hickstead wouldn't be able to jump over some fences as if he didn't jump a whole standard before...
Hickstead would jump anything you placed in front of him. He soared over all of those jumps and put his everything into what he did. He was such a magnificent horse who went too soon :(
We literally have the same last name..
I hope this video will be seen a thousand times, because it's a very good illustration of Hickstead talent.
I dont think i have ever seen a horse so happy to do what they do!!!! He really loved doing his thing its so sad about his pass
Bless hickstead

Finally a vid that doesn't talk about his death and remembers his golden times

Hickstead, I bought your breyer today. Such a good representation of a wonderful horse. RIP Stix.
Watching this on video is nothing compared to being there live. I remember being there four years ago like it was yesterday!
Only horse to ever give me goosebumps when I see him jump. No matter how many times. He just floats.

Makes me wish even harder that I could have been at WEG to see him :'( oh well, I got to see this live on TV at least, but to see Hickstead..... was once my dream.
a clear round isnt rare for a horse and rider in this level, but hes a very impressive little horse.
RIP Hickstead you were the best

I know how sad this sounds and I don't mean it in a bad way, but he died doing what he loved, he was at home when his heart stopped.
RIP Hickstead, he was such an amazing horse :(
Am I the only one holding her breath at the last 3 jumps? :o That horse was so amazing! ♥
Hickstead just died today after collapsing at Italy :( He was the best and strongest horse!

hickstead is perfect but we must also credit the rider too.
he literally looks like he flies. he probably had a pair of invisible wings somewhere. anyway, he does now.
@666JessyJames Hey Rob, when are you gonna upload a poster of
Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire?
Wait, 4 riders rode the same horse right after the other?
@13triki Horses will run and jump whether you ask them to or not; their bodies are designed for athletics. If a horse truly didn't love to jump or run he would show it.

caaaannnn iiii use some clips please? ill give u credit and send u the vid after
All bits are harsh in the wrong persons hands. even bitless can be harsh. Don't judge if you dont own the horse. mate.
what happend to hickstead did he have a heart attak
A ruptured arterie
R.I.P
RIP :(
Does anyone know what this bit is?
mechanical hackamore and a snaffle
***** Why did they use that bit?
It can be many reasons but it's more leverage than a snaffle. It's works like a bit converter too - not as harsh.
What happened to the horse? Health problems
I'm so late to this video (by 12 whole years LMAOO) but all the people hissing and worrying that Hickstead wouldn't be able to jump over some fences as if he didn't jump a whole standard before...
@thewildmustang91 ????
That's amazing!
Rip ._.
