    Just doing this on my 03. From parking brake pedal back. Believe it or not, here in western Pennsylvania we may not be the global leader in rust but if not we are talked about by whoever is. My truck is so rusty that I'm concerned about pulling the bed into the cab when I'm finished and step on the pedal

    Did you have to press those studs out to get those new backing plates on or does it go in front of them? Love the detailed video lol I'm from Canada too dealing with the same rust issue. Cheers

      I used a 2 pound sledge with the nut on the stud to get them out, it was a struggle. Getting the out, I think I just spun the nut on with the impact to draw them back in.

    Ha, talk about rust - we have the same crap here in Western NY. I'd love to see salt usage outlawed, but the car industry would collapse. After all, if your car didn't rust you wouldn't HAVE to buy a new one every 10 years.

      Here in Michigan we drive on salt instead of dirt roads, the rust is crazy on my 2002 2500.

    Can you replace the backing plate without removing those 8 bolts

      unfortunately you can't for the back axle, the bracket that holds the backing plate requires the whole axle hub to be disassembled to be changed properly. I will tell you that the front axle backing plate was different, I was able to slip in a new backing plate by slotting the holes in the new backing plate, and sliding it in by creating a gap between the hub and the axle stub, not advised, but I couldn't get the front axle nut off and the backing plate was rotted out.

    Off topic ? Do you have a lift on your truck? And what size tires are they? If you don’t mind me asking.

    • @SSMedic
      @SSMedic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, its a 4 inch lift with 35 inch tires

    Do both automatic and manual trucks have the same parking brake under the hub, or is it just manual trucks?

    • @SSMedic
      @SSMedic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are the same for manual and automatic

    They should make those trucks out of stainless steel for the you Canadians.
