Advice: If you are going in the winter, check the weather forecast. The roads can be dangerous when icy. Chains will be required as soon as you get off Interstate 5 if there has been a heavy snowfall. Also, if you book a short term rental in winter, the higher up the mountain, the longer you will wait for roads to be plowed.
Verizon and its affiliates seem to be the only reliable phone service in the area. If you are going on a "workation", check to see if the place you are staying has decent wifi and phone service.
Fill up your tank as soon as you get off the Interstate. Don't count on the PMC station to be open. You might also do your grocery shopping in Frazier Park, since the PMC general store has slim selections.
There are no open fires in PMC. You must never leave food or anything smelly outdoors or in your car, so as not to attract bears--not even baby wipes or air freshener. And, a reminder wherever you go: don't feed the wildlife.
