What to do if Flight is Canceled or Delayed: New Dept. of Transportation Regulations!
Have you ever wondered what is the BEST course of action if your flight is delayed or canceled. Here is some quick advice. In the video I review the new U.S. Department of Transportation Regulations for flight refunds for delays and cancelations. I also include ways to avoid delays and cancelations with choices you make BEFORE booking. And finally, I review what are the best ways to rebook a flight if you do have a problem. If you make the right choices before, during, and after a flight delay or cancelation, you are more likely to have any issues resolved quickly.
@seniorsolotravel
For Solo Travelers: It pays to be savvy when it comes to booking and diminishing the possibilities of flight changes. Solo travelers need a bit more assurance they won't be stranded somewhere on their own.
For Senior Travelers: It might be uncomfortable for some of you, but it pays to be up-to-date with apps and technology. Flying is one area where doing things the old fashioned way can relegate you to the back of the line. I think this is one area where you need to challenge yourself technologically! If you can become familiar with the airline's app, minimally, then you will have a better chance of sorting out problems from flight cancelations and delays.

    Never trust any business' CREDITS, especially airlines. "Cash is cash" is the old mantra. If the flight cost $1,000, demand $2,000 in credits or demand cash. We see the degradation of frequent flyer miles. Next year the $2,000 credits will only be worth $1,000 anyway! 🙂 And whose to say that, one day, the airlines won't say that they are disbanding the frequent flyer miles "promotion" and they must be used in the next 6 months? You could always get a $35 portable stereo from their catalog for the equivalent of $800 in points.

    • @seniorsolotravel
      @seniorsolotravel 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Ha! Lot's of good points. One time an airline canceled a flight of my party of ten and it took us three flights and about 20 hours to get from CA to Detroit. Their compensation? A $25 gift card. It certainly seems like these regulations will force them to compensate, but I won't be surprised if they find their way around it. Thanks for sharing and happy travels!

      Yes, it was a great deal...so great that there were over 50 solo travelers that took them up on it! It was on Regent Seven Seas and I have been diligently watching them for a similar deal and I've never seen another. It was coming off the pandemic, so perhaps they were trying something new. Their website has a section you can click on for reduced single supplement, so that is where to stay tuned. I just did a quick search and all I see is 25-50% off, not the steal I got!

    • @seniorsolotravel
      @seniorsolotravel 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The trip also included 13 days in S Korea, where I am now. So I'd have to do quite a bit of calculations to figure the cost of just Japan. I used a travel agent to help me book this trip, which I think was a good idea, since she was very knowledgeable about Japan. I used Maria at Goway Travel, if you are interested. It wasn't a bargain, but less expensive than if I would have booked a cruise...and I had much more freedom. I'm staying in 3-4 star hotels in the heart of town, but you could save dramatically by booking less expensive ones. If I return, that is one place I would cut back. Everything is so clean here, I don't think you could go wrong with a more modest hotel. I hope you have a great trip to Germany. Don't forget Prague, which is a gorgeous city close to Germany! Happy Travels!

    I’m going on an Linblad Nat Geo expedition to Patagonia. I see you packed every needed clothing item in your checked luggage. I am afraid my bag won’t make it, so I was thinking I would pack one carry on and check a carry on size. That way I would have some things in the event that the airline does not get my checked bag to Santiago in time before we leave the next day to embark. Am I overthinking or playing it safe and won’t regret having two small bags rather than one medium bag? Appreciate your viewpoint on this.

    • @seniorsolotravel
      @seniorsolotravel 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I had the same quandary before I left, but I'm glad I went with one medium bag. However, I did pack a change of warm clothes in a small duffle I carried on board, along with some essentials. I think it is okay to pack the two small bags for your peace of mind, but I think you will eventually want to hand both of them over to Lindblad when traveling. We were on buses and the charter flight, and I recall people having some difficulty with carrying their small suitcases and finding space for them in the overhead. Particularly on buses. So, if you do go with the two, just make sure to have something to carry a few items, and then let Lindblad handle the luggage. I hope that helps. Sounds like a great trip!

    Beautiful images. I live in northern Greenland, where one day never looks the same as the Davis Straight usually whisks the large icebergs away, sometimes within an hour or two. At other times they can be stranded for weeks. Polar regions are amazing & beautiful & so incredibly majestic. Just knowing these icebergs are housands of years in the making is astonishing enough. It looks the same as where you were, apart from the penguins. I would love to see them in the wild but I'm also glad they are not here in the arctic as everything that moves is part of the diet.🤭

      I'm glad the information was helpful. I packed minimally and still thought I packed too much. I ended up wearing the same thing over and over: two pairs of long johns, a fleece jacket, my ski pants, and my Nat Geo jacket! Make sure you have the right gloves and you'll be good to go! Have a fabulous trip!

      @@seniorsolotravel Your videos were so informative. I like that you also included the information getting to the ship and leaving the ship on the last day. I didn't know all of those details. Some clothing questions... It looks like there are six days of zodiacs. How many pairs of base layers did you bring. Since you rented the boots, did you find you had the right size based on the information given from Lindblad. Same on the parka. Did you go by their suggestion or wish you had sized up or down?

    • @seniorsolotravel
      @seniorsolotravel หลายเดือนก่อน

      I brought three sets of long johns, but ended up wearing the same two pairs everyday. I know others only wore one pair under their ski pants, but I get cold easily, so always had on two. I brought a ton of socks, but ended up wearing the same two pair of ski socks. I knew I was going to wear two socks so ordered a size up in the boots. I wear an 8.5 shoe, so ordered a 9 boot and it felt great. I would definitely err on the side of large. As for the jacket, I believe I ordered a medium, even though I'm pretty small. I wanted to make sure I could put plenty of layers underneath and not feel bound up. Again, it seemed to work out perfectly. To summarize, I generally went out on the excursions with two sets of socks, two sets of long johns, ski pants, fleece jacket, Nat Geo shell and overjacket, neck gaiter, fleece headband, a beanie and two pair of gloves (outer and liner). My hands were the only thing that didn't work, which I explained in some of my videos. When you do the excursions that have activity, you generally don't get very cold. However, the excursions where you just sat in the boat, were a little nippier because you weren't moving. I agonized over everything, but I really didn't need to. The jacket and boots Nat Geo gives you are really great. Of course, it does depend on the weather. We were lucky in that we had some beautiful days.

      There is not a single supplement for solo cabins, but they aren't half the price of a double cabin. It is definitely an expensive trip, but the solo cabins made it a little more doable. Hope you can find a way to make it work. It was definitely worth it to me. Happy Travels...

    I do think the front rows are quieter as they are further away from the engines. Also, I agree that Latam FA are always very friendly, but all of my experience with them have one constant - extremely slow and dragged out dinner services. It almost always take 2 hours for them to serve a single tray dinner even during those midnight departures, and I think it's really their service protocol of heating up allllll the meals and rolling down the cart instead of taking the orders first, and have one FA run the trays while the other plates. It also seems like such a waste because majority passengers do decide to skip dinner and sleep and yet they'd heat up and prep a full cart of meals.

    I’m hoping to go to Portugal in May but can’t afford this cruise. Do you feel it’s safe for a retired single lady to travel alone? Any suggestions? I’ve been to 40 countries mostly alone.

    • @seniorsolotravel
      @seniorsolotravel 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, I felt very safe in Portugal. Of course, you should always do a little research in any big city to make sure there aren't pockets of worry. I loved Porto, Regua, and Lemago the best--and Salamanca, Spain is close by. Although I have some more cruises planned, I'm actually leaning toward land travel these days and booking my own trip. It definitely gives you more freedom and saves money. Good luck and happy travels!

    I’ll be on the same aircraft and will be in same row 4 as you but I will be at the window side. Now I’m curious if I should move seats due to the noise. Any suggestion?

    • @seniorsolotravel
      @seniorsolotravel 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm not sure if the noise was just in my area, or if it was in the entire business class, so I'm not sure if I can be of help. If I booked it again, I would try to move forward. It was a loud white noise, so maybe you will be fine with it. I did sleep with ear plugs.
