Our government is messed up, and hopefully we see some better choices made in the near future.

As a maori im not agreeing with Rawiri. My great grandparents grandparents even my parent's didn't use being maori as an excuse they worked hard brought they're own homes while educating and raising they're kids. I won't make excuses either, being maori has never held me back working hard and taking care of myself. That attitude "our people suffered so i should have more of this and that" doesn't get you anywhere.

I'm very similar. I acknowledge that a lot of things aren't fair for Māori, but I'm not going to let that define or be a hindrance. I just know that I have to work harder than others to get ahead. Is it fair? No, but it's reality and you learn a lot of good lessons from it. This is what Winston is trying to say. If our top sports teams are full of Māori who have reached the pinnacle of their codes, then what did they do to get there? Hard work and determination. They clearly didn't let being Māori prevent them, it probably fuelled them to work harder so they can be a role model. That's at least what I try to do for my kids.

I pray for all tagata whenua to thrive in Aoreoroa. Sadly, voting and elections don’t ensure a better situation for anyone. Imagine National governing through the pandemic. Imagine Winston or Seymour. In the end, life is only made better by the people you love/have around you. Maybe if Māori had Sovereignty of Aotearoa, laws could be made to break corrupt “Deep State” connections and allow all people to live well.

      @dontcallmeindymorning ปีที่แล้ว

Maybe not. Tainui needs that money, so that they can buy more land.
But hey, I've been thinking. And I've come up with a brilliant public money scheme which I thought I would call "rates" if it ever got launched.
This scheme (if it ever got off the ground) would impose a type of tax or contributory levy that would require ALL New Zealand-Aotearoa land asset property owners to pay an annual amount to a central collection agency each. It would be based on the nominal value of land and of improvements to that land.
I think that this scheme could take a lot of pressure off various local authorities which appear to struggle to pay for regional and district infrastructure which (at the moment) is only covered by motor vehicle parking fees, parking infringement notices and revenues from dog and cat licences.

It is quite concerning that someone so blatantly racist and unintelligent is in parliament. He has no idea about the structure of trusts and lacks any basic knowledge of economics. While a wealth tax in principle makes sense, perhaps something like TOP is proposing is more palatable for the masses. Also it is misleading for him to keep talking about maori life expectancy being a few years shorter than for "pakeha". Maori life expectancy has improved hugely over the years. In 1840, Maori life expectancy was 30 years and today it is over 73 years. Pakeha have added on over 40 years of Maori life expectancy during their so called brutal colonising. And the gap is still closing between Maori and "pakeha" to this day. These are the facts Jack needs to counter with. In terms of health outcomes and incarceration rates there is never a mention of personal responsibility or predisposing cultural factors. It is always someone elses fault isn't it... Also TeWhatu Ora is failing at every level. I would know because I am a doctor working in this crumbling system. I would urge people to get private health insurance over the next decades as it will only get worse. I want the best for NZ but the nation is ever more devided and clear unchallenged racist rhetoric like that from Rawiri is not helping. I urge people to carefully read party policies prior to voting

You go to prison because you have committed a serious crime, you get put in state care because your parents haven't done there job, you have poorer health outcomes because of your lifestyle choices, money doesn't fall out of the sky for most, and the wealthy are wealthy because they often work hard, and choose to get a better education. Easy to blame others for your flaws but step up and own your own flaws, racism works both ways dividing a nation is the easiest way to conquer it. Have accountability for your choices and actions in life. Do Maori as a culture value having unbroken families, being a productive, law abiding citizen, getting a good education or the drive to be successful in life, or focus on injustice and a give me what you have attitude????

Have we not spent the last 50 years trying to right our so called injustices, and $3.7 Billion. When Maori Colonized NZ 200 years before the white man. They commited genocide they enslaved, and wiped out an entire race of people the Moriori. They have never once been brought to account for this but like to focus all there injustices on the white man. I was merely stating basic fundamentals as to why maori as a people are over represented in all negative statistics in NZ. In the modern world Success is not for the lazy, affluence is for people who believe in education and working hard, you are less likely to commit crime in a functional family, and to bring your children up that $ doesn't fall out of the sky, and what the world actually owes you is "absolutely nothing". If you want something in this world set goals work hard and you can achieve them. Or keep playing the victim and hope someone else will pay for you to have a better life, we all have a choice!@@PaKa-kj3rj

An 8% wealth tax is absolutely hectic. Especially at the same time as an increase in business tax.
Own a company worth 10 million
    Make a 7% annual return
Pay 33% company tax on that
Pay 8% wealth tax on top
Decrease in net worth = $331,000
Expecting to make an 8% ROI just to break even is straight up stupid, especially if you have value your company on an unfavourable earnings multiplier. Also no one owns the assets in a trust, the trust owns them.
    Pure stupidity in a hat!

They need to see the doctor, get your vaccinations, eat the right food, drink less achohol, live in areas where there is a hospital, not Poverty Bay area, don’t belong to gangs and use drugs such as Cannabis. Common sense required. Don’t commit the crime and you won’t be in jail, simple really.

Yeah 😳 Because colonialism is so much more violent than the tribal wars that were present before colonialism 🙈
It was precisely the tribal violence that lead to the Maori chiefs wanting to sign the treaty.
Why does this fool think that we will fall for this line of reasoning? How does someone this stupid and racist get to be in parliament?
Don’t they need to pass an intelligence test and prove they have the ability?

We all work and pay taxes and live here to make a better life from where we have come from, some of us have come from war torn countries and extreme poverty and others not so, however as Kiwis we all need to work as one and move forward with peace and harmony and we need to stand well clear from division, the dividing of people will only lead to one thing violence and war.
