That women at the very end summed it up perfectly.... "Ireland will never lie down again" And we never did !!! God bless the brave men of 1916 And God Bless Bobby Sands & his 9 brave comrades!! God Bless Ireland & the UNDEFEATED P. IRA 🇮🇪✊🏻🇯🇴
We were defeated!! By fucking touts and traitors like Scappaticci, Donaldson, Carlin and Mcguinness. How the fuck does a Loughgall happen unless you're compromised very high up. Same would happen now, guns to drone fight. Need an Irish Federation, and hopefully then to a Republic. 🇮🇪
@@tetrahedron1000 Or that the original Volunteers would have put up with that lot as "continuing the job of winning back the Fourth Green Field" at all? Or hijacking the name IRA for their own selfish ends?
I'm English but I have to say that I knowing what I know now, I would now have been on the side the rising. I'm not saying that to curry favour. I'm saying it as someone who values the rights of all peoples of common cultural background to be independent and to govern their own interests as they see fit. I regard that as a basic unalienable right. I often wonder how close we would be as neighbours if we had respected those ideals instead of vainly trying to maintain our false empirical claims over a land that was never ours in the first place.
This is excellent history. Robert kee has done a great service in his balanced and insightful analysis of irish history thru all 13 programs in this superb tv-series. A must-watch for anyone who aims towards uncovering the complexity of the past, as opposed to over-simplified slogan-ing and caricatures of communities and people. Long live peace, since all people deserve to live in peace!
Ah the beauty of hindsight Ireland was a colony The great majority of the people in Dublin were quite acceptable of English rule The English made a huge mistake in killing the rebels The rest is well known and frankly understandable
Extraordinary eye-witness testimonies. Great series. And Kee's narration is peerless.
Great interviews. And footage. Over a hundred years old now.

Do you really think that these people in 1916 would have approved of the IRA's bombing campaign against civilians in the 1970s and '80s?

IRA were a terrorist organisation.
irelands sad past all that sadness is directly due to englands insistence on irish servitude

Was dev in the GPO or having his teeth done at tcd dental hospital
Dev was in Bolands mill you gobshit
In bolens mill busy doing what he could to prevent the female half of the volunteers from fighting. Anti women from the beginning.

Europeans went too the Great War like lemmings. Because it was the ‘right thing to do’
the independence would have come by negotiation post WW1 , they were hanging on to gain a large contingent of troops to fight their war
I'm happy that my grandparents taught me to be povo✔️👍 as I'm doing fine Gael 🍀 roast chicken 👍 roast potatoes 👍
If any of that made sense, I guess I'm just too American to get it.
@@stephenwright8824 Doesn't make sense to me and I'm Irish.
