When we were kids our mom put four nails in a wooden sewing thread spool to make I cord. Worked great but very old fashioned!

Oh yes, I had forgotten about that. My grandma did that for me as a young child. Put the 4 nails in the wooden cotton spool. I would make metres of the stuff but until now didn't know what it was called. As kids we would use it for heaps of things, like playing elastics, tying in hair, using as jewellery but never sewed it to anything. I'm going to go make myself one again, for me and show my 6 year old granddaughter how to do it. Oh the memories and what fun, thank you

We also used wooden cotton reels with panel pins in the top. I know it as French Knitting though, not icord.

Maybe a video with just the i cord machine by the fireplace would be relaxing..like when Arne just knitted with no talking. Be well. Much love!

My dad used a large wooden spool and some headless nails that he hammered into the top leaving about a centimetre or two standing proud of the top of the spool i am sure that there were more than four nails! I wrapped the yarn around the nails in a certain pattern and used a crochet hook to make the cord that came out of the bottom of the spool. Gosh that is about sixty years ago . The cords were then attached to my younger sisters mittens and fed through their sleeves so that they would never misplace them. Well hardly ever. I have a vague recollection of making coasters as Christmas presents too. Thank you for triggering some happy memories! 🤷🏼‍♀️👍👍👍👍🖖🖖🖖🖖🤔😘💞💕😘💞💕🙋🏼‍♀️

We used to use four finishing nails driven into a wooden thread spool and a small filet crochet hook to make Icord when I was a child.a one ounce fishing sinker was tied to the end as a weight. Wow. I really feel old now.

We had the plastic, hand held, version of the this as kids and we called it spool knitting. My brother used to do it while watching sports on TV. (My Mom gave it to him, to he keep his hands busy and stop him from fiddling around with all of her breakable glass, knick-knacks.) Needless to say, we ended up with a lot of i-cord, cause he watched a lot of sports and other TV!! haha! Thank you for another great video.

We had a toy, similar to the spool and nails, called a Knitting Doll. She has a cute folkloric painted dress and kerchief, and a crown of four (nails?). We made yards of very skinny I-cord and then wove it into lanyards. Rennie St Stephens church in Glasgow, Scotland, built a giant, many posted i-cord loom-like structure and invited visitors to weave a row or two for peace. They ended up with a chancel-spanning tube-like mobius. A very fun interactive project!

A Knitting Mill (icord machine) is an absolute MUST for any crafter👍. The icord has so many versatile uses! I've had a blue Prym Knitting Mill (mini) for years and looooove it😍! These days I've stash dived and dug out some crochet mercerized cotten and the immediate plan is to 'paint' a flower bouquet i 3D, a wall-hanging piece. My latest creation was a GOOD LUCK greeting card - on the front I had outlined a 4 leaved clover, and using a hot glue gun I attached a green icord. It looked amazing and was very well received. Was once given a great tip for using the mill: don't hold the yarn. You might risk holding it too tight (and make damage to the needles). Just make sure the yarn runs freely and of course keep an eye on it not tangeling 😉
Yet a brillant episode! Thank you so much Keep it up!

I love the iCord mills, so much fun. I usually add a 'core' to mine when milling thread. Para cord or the cotton/poly stuff you find in the diy drapery section of your craft store works great. Then you have a stiff iCord that will not compact as much when you make baskets or hot pads or whatever :) Thanks again for the wonderful video.

I liked the i-cord machine you are using that I was able to purchase, and I like it much better than my old one. I’m going to make an entire garment out of the i-cord because I have a lot of a fingering weight yarn that I no longer want to knit with because the plies split quite easily. It was interesting to learn they have other i-cord machines and if so I will try to purchase those as well here in the U.S.

Hi, I do my i cord by DPNS...for many years. I made a "K" in a wool afghan square...for my daughter Katrina. She has that blanket still, its felted now because she accidentally washed it. lol. But, I got the idea from some book I saw, some pattern. But I really do need that device. I'll check on line cause now I have a Grand daughter and I need to make her a blanket with different squares now, since her mom has one. Thanks for all the videos! hello from Tohajiilee New Mexico :)

When I was a little girl in school we made knitted cord with a wooden spool with four small nails in the top.
