    O wow I didn't know the newer rams are that complicated to add LEDs to rear dome. I have a '2012' and just swapped the bulb out with a 41MM Festoon LED. Very bright. Your videos are very good and keep it up. Just ordered a QTP cutout after watching your video on it.

    What a great modification... I used 3x8 LED panel and it is BRIGHT enough. I decided to use 5 min epoxy instead of double tape as it gets very hot inside and also epoxy will help to dissipate heat a bit better.
    Tanks for clarifying electrical connection inside the light itself!

    Thank you for all your help.
    Almost every light is now led.
    My engine bay led kinda sucks cause you can't change the angle.
    As for the rest led dome, if it helps or makes a difference on ease of install.
    I ordered an OEM regular incandescent festoon dome housing from ebay.
    I paid $30 for the black housing with the push button switch from a jeep cause I thought the contrast in color would match the black front map light housing.
    Anyway it was a perfect fit and easy hook up.
    No disassembly or soldering.
    Just had to cut away a very small piece of the headliner.
    Pressed the housing against the headliner, made an impression then cut out the line.
    Looks fantastic and now the interior lighting color matches.
    Anyway thanks again.
    You've been an incredible help in transforming my '14 Sport into an even more impressive truck.

      @@Manningo Hi Matt. It's been so long since I did all my lights. good news they are all still going strong with no issues. Like I said it was so simple and easy. The dome light casing is actually from a Jeep Commander and specifically it must have the push and click indent on the transparent cover. The covers the don't have that indent can't be turned on off by the rear passenger. For anyone who says this is impossible, it is not. And you also do NOT need to short out the voltage regulator either. All you need is a ground and a power. Once you get the Chrome facia separated from the housing, you will see one of the three legs coming in (from the connector) is a black wire (which is the left-most leg looking at it) . Solder one end of your negative wire here. For the power, if you're looking at the stock led light itself, immediately to the right if it is the voltage regulator. There are three horizontal legs on it, the first (top) one is the regulated leg, the second (middle) leg isn't connected to anything, and the third (bottom) leg is the unregulated leg. This third (bottom) unregulated leg is where you want to solder the wire that will run to the power side of your bulb. Once you do that, tie in your newly soldered negative and power wires to the negative and power wire on you led, and boom, Bob's your uncle. Wiring it like this ensures your new led light works when both opening the doors as well as using the clicker button on the light itself.

    • @BoostedMotorsports

      David Rosales yes sir it's super easy! Connect your red (+) together and your black (-) together and then solder to those two pins. You'll have to short out that two pins "accidentally" with power connected like I did or take power from the back of that black square voltage regulator and one pin.

    I know this is an old video but I am planning to do this exact same thing this weekend. How do you know the polarity of the light before you solder? First off great video, I've done the front map lights without any problems, they look/work great, moved on to the dome light also went very smooth, noticed when I plugged everything back in the factory led was still working and the leds are alot dimmer then the map lights, so my question is how do I eliminate the factory led? Should I try and short it out or try to take it off the board? Hope I'm asking in the right spot here...thanks Mark

      Bummer you got no reply on this because now I've the exact same problem. My soldering skills are weak so I was wondering if I damaged anything with too much heat on the circuit board. I'm using 2 of the 24 LED boards like this gentleman used on his last RAM map light upgrade and these one in the back dome light are dim enough to stare right at. The map light ones are BRIGHT!

    So, what do you do if you don’t short that little voltage regulator out? If I hook these new leds to the same place the existing led is, is it gonna reduce the light output from my new lights? Thanks.

    • @billplaisance6387
      @billplaisance6387 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, I just answered my own question on that first comment which no longer matters. But now another question- how exactly did you “short” that little voltage regulator thing out that you soldered your wires to? When I tried it, I guess I did what someone else commented on and must of fried something on the circuit board, or I fried that little voltage regulator in such a way that it no longer has any power coming out of it because the only way now- or well, I could, was to attach the wires of the new leds to those terminals on the wiring harness-side of the little grey push button switch but the led was a whole lot dimmer. So now I just got a whole new dome light on order so I guess whoever else is planning to do this, beware because you might be buying a whole new light just like I am because my other one’s shot.

    Thank you for the video unfortunately mine are very dim LOL how did you short yours out to get it brighter??????

    • @billplaisance6387
      @billplaisance6387 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The reason yours are dim are because unless you can short out the regulator portion of that voltage regulator like he was able to somehow do in the video, they’re gonna be dim. The factory led on the board is probably a lower wattage diode on purpose to keep the brightness down. I don’t know how to post pictures in comments but if you wire your LED’s together like he did but instead of soldering the wires to those appropriate terminals on the black voltage regulator, instead, solder your black wire to the far right metal contact that the main wiring harness plugs into, below that horizontal black plastic piece and then solder your red wire to the middle terminal on the left of the square gray push button. This way you’ll bypass the regulator and get full power to your lights. I just got done completing this so it works.
