  • I flew to PA to pick up the @BikesandBeards Police Harley from @The_Bearded_Mechanic so that I can practice enough with it to get my local police department to let me train with them. Can I ride this 900 lb bagger 1000 miles home?

It was awesome watching you learn how to do your own wrenching. It’s a great skill to have for sure and I hope you continue to learn more and more about doing your own repairs and maintenance. Not only will it save you a fortune but there’s not much that feels better than knowing you did your own work.

    Doodle you are inspiring me to ride again. I'm 71. Back in 1978, my wife had a really really bad day. I didn't know what to do. I asked her for permission to surprise her with a good thing on that bad day. We went to an elementary school yard and I taught her how to ride my motorcycle. She loved it so much and she has ridden for 44 years. Totally Awesome Channel. Proud of you and My wife riding into her 70's!!! I am subbed to your channel now. Thanks... old sam.

    15:11 This is the part that got me to subscribe.
    I ride professionally and since I am on and off bikes all day, many times I just leave my helmet on and walk around like that. When you said, "I'm just going to leave my helmet on walking around town looking like I came from outer space." I couldn't help but laugh out loud. I know that feeling very well.
    This is the first of your videos I have watched since I just discovered your channel tonight, but I thoroughly enjoyed this and will certainly watch many more, I'm sure.

    Mad respect for riding that beast all the way home.

    • @duanecox4201
      @duanecox4201 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      One of the best bikes for riding any distance, and you say "mad respect"? Top effort but really? I'd take that over a sports bike any time. Mad respect if she did it on a rigid or a sports bike, or a monkey bike. But go and ride a big bike a distance, see how easy it eats up the road miles.

    • @EddieSprouse
      @EddieSprouse 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@duanecox4201 , you miss the point. She isn't a big, beefy biker. She is pretty small for such a bike. While I know a few women who would ride that bike, there are few her size. Thats a lot of bikes for anyone, especially someone like her.
      I never said a thing about comfort. My 07 Ultra is one of the most comfortable bikes I own. Still, I wouldn't ride it from coast to coast, as HD makes crap bikes when it comes to reliability.
      The HD bikes I've owned have been some of the most expensive to own, as they are always needing work. I've put so much money into my HD bikes to keep them on the road that I'm probably done with them.
      I crunch serious miles every year on two wheels. I ride in almost any weather, and I scoff at those who are afraid to get wet. If you don't ride in the rain, then you don't ride.
      Most Harley guys get offended when you put down their favorite brand. That's because their chromed-out trailer princess bike usually only goes to the local bar. They don't put any miles on them, so how would they know if it is reliable?
      As for me, if I'm going more than a few states away from home, I'd prefer a Goldwing. You give me the choice of riding 6-8k miles on a Goldwing with 300k miles on the clock or a brand new Ultra, and I'll take the wing every time.

  • @johnnylightning1491
    @johnnylightning1491 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    And now you know why I like my Ultra so much. My wife and I can ride all day and not feel like we've been beat with a stick. I was also amazed that the Ultra didn't feel any heavier than my 72 Triumph when it was at speed. I parking lots it's a little heavier but out on the road it's just as nimble. Keep the good stuff coming.

    When I was a 15 year old kid (1966) I rode a friends old Police Harley with a tank shift and foot clutch. He was a small guy and never rode it, I road it all the time.... I think it was a 1958 model, timing advance on the left throttle that you better use to start it. It also had a friction knob on the triple tree to tighten up the steering for highway use and it worked.

    Really cool video, Doodle! I would like to know more about the blue Yamaha IT175 on the lift next to yours. I had a 1977, would love to have another one!

    If, by chance, you're unable to get any police station to help you out with that video, there are a few places here in Florida that run an advanced rider course that is basically the same thing. They run through the same exact course in some cases. I'm sure you could find something like that in Georgia as well.

    Just discovered your channel. What great content Doodle. I watched the videos of you doing u-turns, etc. I'm an old guy with a heavy bike and I need to follow your lead. Keep it up my friend.

    Ifvyounwant a really cool bike, I’m selling the Honda Helix 250cc scoot I took out Route 66 and up to Las Vegas, Area 51 and The Loneliest Road in America. Yeah, big, underpowered mistake and lack of proper jetting, nut very comfortable ride and lots of TLC servicing by my mechanic after I got back. You’re smart for having your mechanic prep your bike for your planned trip!
