    Thanks for keeping it real! As for the flashlight, I've been EDCing a ThruNite Ti3 for about a year and I love it. It is pretty small and uses a twist switch. I also keep a ThruNite Ti5 in my messenger bag. It seems more along the lines of what you are carrying - they both use single AAA batteries.
    And God Bless Texas!

      Traveler1226: "Hueco". In Spanish: hole or hollow. Since you have been there many times, you have seen how many holes and hollow areas there are in the rocks. And, yes, you are correct, it is pronounced Waco, like the city.

    I've used my Streamlight MicroStream for a year now, and love it. I've broken several others, and I'm sticking with the Streamlight until I break it! Nice video, thanks for getting out for it, so many people today sit in front of a computer instead of getting out. It makes for a nice video.

    That's a very solid, comprehensive EDC system. No need to change much there. Two lights I'd highly recommend are the Klarus Mi7 and the Olight S1A Baton. They both run a single AA or rechargeable 14500 and have some serious output. I tend to prefer the Klarus because it has a lockout feature and the Olight will occasionally turn itself on.

    • @JunkyardFox
      @JunkyardFox  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ive neve even hear of the klarus brand. ive gotten several suggestions for the olight baton. im gonna look into the lights, thanks for watching, glad ye enjoyed it mike.

    • @MichaelTravis12c27
      @MichaelTravis12c27 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Junkyard Fox I would recommend the Baton outright if it didn't have such a sensitive switch. Look up the review done by Simons Discoveries. The only downfall to the Klarus is the lack of a pocket clip, which they say they will be including in the future. The Mi7 is a kick ass light.

    Hi James. I have been a long time viewer ever since you reached out to me on my channel. I love your videos. My favorite video was the EDC P101 tagged video. Mainly for your reference to Boba Fett since I am a Star Wars fan pulse I also love the Hidden Woodsmen belt pouch. My favorite Cuervo Negro song is Swapping Stories. Thank you for the awesome review and chance to win. Also thanks CN for his beautiful music and Gary over at C2GFAB for the sheath. Merry Christmas!

    Few years ago, after a hot pursuit of a bear, I found myself miles away from my vehicle in thick forest on a cold rainy day. No compass, no fire starter, no food, no water, no cord or anything. Lucked out that time, but it could've turned out bad. Never go there without water, fire starter, compass, etc. These days I keep the bare basics in my pocket.

    Suggestion: Duct Tape! I make flat packs of 10 feet of duct tape for EDC carry. I cut a 2"x5-1/2" piece of plastic from some old plastic packaging (I find that salad containers work well). Then I just fold the duct tape onto it and you end up with a 2"x6"x1/4" flat pack of super portable duct tape. Folding it around a used gift card works ok, but mine are flatter.

    Have you ever thought about adding a cowboy hat??? Multiple uses,, place fishing hooks and fishing line on the inside of the hat. It protects you from the sun. Helps to fan a fire. When you need it to it can be used as a container for wild edibles and so on..

    Personally, I love the microstream light. Similar to your edc setup, I carry a leatherman wave, a microstream, and a micro sharpie (from Lowes)....these three items fit into a leatherman premium nylon sheath that has elastic loops on the outside that perfectly hold the microstream and the micro sharpie. These three items are invaluable to me on a daily basis as a remodel contractor. The reason I like the microstream is that it takes a standard aaa battery. Easy to find, readily available, battery.
    Also love your choice in knives. I have LT Wright Genesis and Mora Classic #1.

    Nice gear. I'm curious as to what Leatherman you've got. For the longest time the Swiss Army hiker was in my pocket, but most days it's replaced by either the Surge or the Rebar. As per your sh!t-kickers, look into Boulet Boots. I like Justins and Tony Lamas, yet it's my Boulet super ropers that go everywhere with me.

    Nice review on your EDC.
    My suggestion on the flashlight, I prefer AA, cuz they're easier to find and R stronger lums, U can keep that one as a backup.
    2nd, I didn't notice a compass or a whistle,they saved my ass many A times.
    3rd, a water resistant pouch 4 your cell phone,learned my lesson on that one, eg, a wet cell phone.
    4th, a small pistol, I'm encountering more homeless out on my getaways out to nowhere. Other than that, to each their own.

    JFY. . coast a9r is a great little penlight. . self contained battery, charges via USB and a port you stick the light into..very simple . .diameter of a pencil perfect for the top pocket. it is not that bright, probably a bit less than the streamlight you have but it is invisible and super useful light that burns forever between charges and throws a great distance for its size.. lil on the pricey but worth it. (I've had them all, in fact I've owned just about every single or dual aaa light out there. ) for single aaa I'd go with county comm maratac. dual aaa maybe preon 2 by 4 sevens? I'm not dead set on one 2xaaa light yet..they have all failed me at some point but that preon is still going strong after 3 yrs edc.. I use my lights every day as tools so they get used hard

    A gathering pouch is always good so you can put tinder or wild edibles in it that you may not find at your end destination. As far as a decent inexpensive flashlight, I've found the Bushnell Series to be pretty good with a decent durability & lumen output for the price. They even have a small one like yours and it's in my Maxpedition Thermite emergency hiking leg pouch.
    I wouldn't mind having that new Mora either if someone would be kind enough to give me one. LoL

    if you want to squeeze more power out of that microstream you can run 10440 rechargeable batteries in it. it will bump the output to about 300 lumens. it will get hot pretty fast so its not good for extended use but if you can swap back to normal aaa's if you plan on using it for a long time.
    id go for a nitecore charger like the intellicharger i2. i got the button top 10440's made by trustfire on ebay for about 10 dollars and its a set of 4.
    you can get the new streamlight stylus pro that is 90 lumens and will run for 6.5hrs running on 2 aaa's.
    fenix, olight, thrunite, nitecore, and eagletac make nice flashlights in all price ranges as well.

    • @jacobmanalang8162
      @jacobmanalang8162 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      also since you live in texas are there scorpions? eagletac makes the d25aaa in uv. if youre in the dark that could come in handy right? lol or checking for coolant leaks under the car...and whatever else they use uv lights for!

    Yeah, looks like you're about due for a new pair of boots.....LOL I carry my EDC in a Fox Tactical shoulder bag because I don't like having stuff bulging my pockets or hanging from my belt. I wear a neck knife daily, I have several which I switch out from time to time. You know that I'm old school so I don't carry any electronic gear, just the basics to keep me alive in a woodland or urban setting. Question? Why the spurs? I'm sure there must be a reason. Not a put-down, actually I kinda like that look. Also, you are in Texas, so why don't you wear a hat? James, I totally love your videos. Peace out brother, keep on rockin' in the new world!

    • @JeffBluemel
      @JeffBluemel 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      agreed, why the spurs? I've worn spurs and actually used them while riding, but never when there was no need. I found them uncomfortable & noisy.

    • @JunkyardFox
      @JunkyardFox  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      well, the spurs are essentially for riding, i do want to bring in horseback riding to my videos next year, its been pretty difficult because i dont own my own horse and ranch owners dont trust me taking a horse to these places where one can be injured. anyway, the spines on the spurs are filed 90 degree so they can strike sparks from a ferro rod and can be attached to a wooden club to make a weapon for self defense. but at the end of the day, i just enjoy them, love the look, love the sound, im a western movie fanatic. i dont like the confinign feeling of hats or beanies though i do have a hat in my truck, if needed.

    Idk if u like stuff in your pockets, it seems u like stuff easily accessible but rattling keys can be a pain, I'd recommend a Keybar, it's pretty much the concept and idea of a Swiss Army knife but obviously it's for your keys, if u search on TH-cam I'm sure people can give better explanations and maybe even people here can but there around $50 maybe cheaper on Amazon, a lot of money but definitely recommend

    Have you heard about these urban clowns suddenly appearing and chasing people with knives lately? I think you should make a video on fast opening assisted knives. I have a Kershaw that opens quickly and in the correct right-handed position from pant removal. My other knives have to be flipped over to get in my hand correctly before opening.
    I like your ferro strike rod. I'll look into that since I don't have one.

      Junkyard Fox Ah, you're lucky you can in your state. Here in California it's not that easy to carry. Many restrictions on weapons. That's how it is in many urban areas.

    good video...I myself carry a Jetbeam Jet AA light, can also take a 14500 li ion battery. twist light...but easily turned on and off with one hand....IPX-8 waterproof, 1.5 lm, 30 lm, 150 lm (AA), 480 lm(14500). it also has a screw hole to fit to a tripod mount type screw.... and the best part, they are under $14 USD on Gearbest. I love mine....i have bigger lights....larger lights, more lumens, but I don't carry them...always go back to this one. small lightweight and plenty lumens at 150 lm on the AA I use.

      That's a regular OHT, with the serrations, right? I've got two, an original with the serrations, used for a few years, and a newer NS, or non-serrated, model. I much prefer the plain one-handed blade, for overall utility. Mine has a black paracord wrist lanyard and a Streamlight Nano LED. My other OHT Vics have a BSA Hotspark ferro rod on them (stashed in various bags as backup), I haven't stopped at the local BoyScout shop to pick up another for my new knife yet.

    Nice vid. First, keep your current flashlight. if it works well and has been tested true, then why change particularly if you are stubborn. Secondly, one too many cutting tools. A former pathfinder student myself, "One is none, and two is one".

    3 knives and 2 fire steel. seems alil over redundant. that's just me. i would lose one of the fire steels as long as you have your backup lighter( replace with a magnifying card lens you keep in your wallet(another way to start fire)) and lose at least one knife and replace with firearm if possible. maybe a north american arms 22 for your boot or maybe a bond arms 45 top barrel loaded with snake shot and bottom loaded with hollow point. and maybe add some butterfly bandages to your wallet as well( i keep a small fero rod, magnifying card lens, metal survival card, safety pins, bandaids and butterfly bandaids all in my wallet with 7 cards and my wallet is smaller than yours). you can also take a 50 or 100 dollar bill ( i use 2 $20 behind my phone case) fold in half and place it inbetween your phone and phone case as backup cash if for some reason you forget or lose your wallet. hope this helps. everything else looks pretty good

      @JunkyardFox  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      interesting, i like your suggestions! ive been wanting to get e keltec p3at pistol to replace my boot knife. i will place a few dollar bills in my phone case, like ye said, for emergencies. ill add soem first aid stuff to my wallet as well. thanks!

    • @booshwaa2
      @booshwaa2 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      i carry the p3at as my work gun. the p3at is a good gun just dont use hollow points. they dont feed reliably enough to place my life or family with. but i have never had a misfire or jam with fmj and would trust my life with. but they arent very accurate and arent the most powerful. but still better than a 45 left at home anyday lol. i carry a Springfield xdm compact 9 everywhere else.

      @@booshwaa2 magnifying glass is pointless, you have to have the sun in the right spot at the right time for it to work. Not to mention it takes a long time to heat up something to get that ember. Having 2 ferro rods and a lighter is way smarter in my opinion.

    Why not ware a hat? or a straw hat with some shades..i live in so cal in the imperial valley where its a desert as well lol during summer it can get in the 120s plus so it does get hot out here.. during summer time i carry two bottles of water good size but nothing too heavy,then hat,shades, my old swiss army knife its had its days had it since 1994 its alil beat up but it comes in handy, my knife of choice to carry a ka-bar folding knife or my buck 110 folding knife but i never carry both,lighter,boots redwings chukkas,,idk maybe its cause of me being a custodian we do carry alot of shit on us lol..plus i have a water key on me just incase most water keys are the same etc the old water keys are alil smaller..water keys can come in handy you never know when you might need one they will work
