    Hi. Good call on wearing a large Ferro rod around the neck, it's very comfortable and I'm wearing one now! I too found the GNS a little slick, so I scrubbed the micarta with a 3m scotchbrite pad and find it much better. Good job my friend. Wade

    Since this video was made I can see how you've grown and changed a few things. Not a fan of backups, especially E.D.C., insted, I believe in one each and keeping track of gear brought.

    I like your EDC update. And I see that you are knife heavy, like me! ha! And yes...more than one ferro rod. I didn't see any way to sharpen your blades. Did I miss that somehow? I carry a small diamond rod and a small carbide V sharpener with a ceramic V....just in case my day trip turns out to be an extended stay trip. And I'm glad that Texas of all places is finally starting to have open carry of handguns. Here in Arizona we can carry any gun open or concealed without any permits. Being a fellow desert rat, I'm glad that I found your channel.....because on YT, we are very rare critters! >;) Stay well brother!

      +Charles Larson i dont carry any sharpening device on my person. i have stones and diamond rod at home, but if i need to hone up my knife outdoors, i usually use my leather belt and the leather belt loop from my knife sheath to strop the blade. i always carry a pack with me so i should look into gettin a small diamond rod in there. thatnks for the views and support, buddy!

    Yeah the dangler system is annoying for me and honestly, I've always carried my ferro rod around my neck. The only way I'll lose it is if my neck comes off and then I won't need it anyhow!!

    I'm more of a Leatherman fan than a Swiss Army... Don't get me wrong Swiss Army knives are great I just use needle nose pliers constantly it all just boils down to like you said line of work, or personal use... Great videos keep up the good work!

      +Evan Mortensen its all up to the individual. i own the leatherman wingman, but i gotta admit, i usually only use it during fishing trips. i just dont use pliers to often in my every day errands. thanks for watching, glad ye enjoyed it!

    James, whats with the sexism? A man can't carry a purse? Just kidding with you, but in seriousness I carry a messenger bag with me EVERYWHERE. I call it my "tactical man-purse" for laughs. I have first aid basics including OTC meds, lock picks, paracord, at least one knife, fire starters, the list goes on and on. Big believer in carrying first aid essentials and I think everyone should. Thanks for your videos, I look forward to your updates.

    That's not an upgrade of knives. it's a downgrade. The only advantage of 01 is that it holds an edge longer. But when it gets dull, it's infinitely harder to sharpen. 1075 is a spring steel, and is actually far tougher than 01 tool steel. Micarta is sometimes good, and sometimes bad. Usually bad. It's made out of many things, has many levels of quality, and few of them are good. I really wish people would get over thinking that harder steel is good, and would understand that the longer the edge retention, the worse the knife is when dealing with long term survival emergencies. Sharpening your knife should not get old, it should be a pleasure, and something you do automatically each and every time you use the knife. Even with 01, you should hone the knife after each and every use. If you don't, it will eventually get dull, and you'll discover why 01 is not the best choice. Hopefully, it won't get dull when your life is on the line. You can sharpen 1075 on a brick, on a rock, or on just about anything. With 01, once it gets dull, it's hard to sharpen with anything except professional level sharpeners.

    • @JunkyardFox
      @JunkyardFox 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +James Ritchie perhaps, but heat treat also makes a difference, and ill be honest, that condor knife was pretty crappy, i felt like the heat treat was off, it would go dull in one day, doing small tasks. i prefer a higher carbon content knife like 01 steel, because i can use the blade itself to strike a flint rock to make a fire if needed. i never got a single spark off the 1075. ive sharpened the 01 blade plenty with just a ceramic rod and my leather belt to strop, its pretty easy to sharpen, i dont own any of those fancy sharpeners.
