I like this, and enjoyed your video. My TriOil build for the PI4 which runs at 35C with all cores, 7 voltage, force_turbo, 2147mhz, gpu at 800, initial_turbo. Immersed in mineral oil. 512 gb SSD also immersed. Sandisk Ultra Plus - A1 - 64gb MicroSD card. 8 operating systems on PINN, Or my other Pi4 in the wicked aluminum case with a 110mm fan blowing over it powered by USB - it’s 39C on same settings. 4k@60. 3 OS’es on custom Berryboot. 71 ambient temp on each - they’re in the same room. Keep up the good work.
For those that prefer an enclosed case; if you use the Flirc case with a 120mm fan(12V fan @ 5V) you can mirror the Ice tower thermal performance (at least stock Pi4). It is dead quiet at a foot away. Still a work in progress. I am thinking of adding some 10mm(ish) standoffs between the board and the base plate. This would allow air circulation and add to the surface of the heat sink exposed to air. Exposing the inner surface of the case as well as the external surface. Price of the case is about (with shipping) the same as the Ice tower.
What power supply? What voltage? Latest firmware - 2147 max even when I cooled my case to 3C. 2 different PI4’s tested. My buddies build gets 900 on the GPU with 8 voltage. 7 is all I can get out of my 2 4gb boards, which is why I ask the above. I got those temps by turning canned air upside down and freezing my wicked aluminum case. It held at 15C for for 5 minutes or so before warming back up. This determined that it wasn’t a thermal limitation.
Nice video edit on the GPU overclock mate :) glad I could help... Now for me to overclock my Pi4 to see how it goes, thanks for sharing your discoveries.
I overclocked my Raspberry Pi4 8gig using Manjaro Linux Arm up to 2.2 ghz without updating anything but using a dual fan active cooling. Temp is 65-70 degrees celsius.
@@yoshi3324 somewhat, I've found ways to pull it up at the device but now I'm using a android app so I can monitor remotely. (RaspController) Thanks for your follow up.
Hi - do you have any possibility to indicate the commands(terminal), you have been using for checking CPU-speed, core-load, CPU temp, etc. I've tried to search for them on the net, but i haven't been able to find them
Can’t I boot from Lakka and just ssh into it to do this? Also if I was to over clock in raspbian and then take that sd card out and boot from a different sd, say lela or Lakka, would it still be overclocked? What I’m asking is; are the settings saved and dependent on the sd card? or; is it a permanent setting change that saves within the CPU/GPU on the board? Video is helpful btw! Great video!
PLZ HELP I cant use these setting on mine with the ice tower it works for a little bit then will crash to a black screen like when a video is play or something similar
Can you overclock just the GPU? Sometimes I suspect the "idle" speed 600Mhz makes the Pi seem a little non responsive. Is there a way to move this to say 800Mhz? thanks
@@bradquinn4161 try to update then try cos if you try to 800 the pi will crash, I think that's why you got it not responding, I had this issue as well so cos I set it to 675.
@@notthesameman I think you misunderstood what I meant by a little non responsive. I did not mean that I changed something and it stopped responding altogether, but it is a little non responsive (sluggish?) until it kicks up to 1500Mhz. It is fully updated.
Excuse the total newb question, but should I overclock? Just ordered a pi4b 4gb, plan to do retro gaming and streaming also ordered the fliirc case for it.
Short answer. No. Longer answer - Maybe. Did you buy it to do that? If you bought it for something else, try that first. There are really only 3 reasons to OC. 1). "Brag Racing". Clocking as high as you can so you can tell your friends (and foes). 2). Education. Doing it just to experience doing it. No need to brag (too much). It's just for fun. 3). You "need too". Ex: In a previous RP4B4 build he couldn't get good in browser quality video at 1080p. So, he overclocked in an attempt to correct that. It didn't fully work. I don't think the CPU is the bottle neck really - I think the GPU and access speeds may be the issue. But still - it was a good try. The issue is, in the short term you can bork your Pi if you make a mistake - but you likely won't. But the long run.... Chips fail because of electron channeling/leaking or from stress due to thermal cycling. OC'ing increases both. I once needed an upgrade and was saving up for it. But I couldn't wait so I OC'ed my system. It was perfect! Like a new(er) computer. For 2 weeks....then it failed and I was without a system and still broke. It's really your call - just be aware you might go from good to better to nothing at all. It's fun though - and these are cheap(ish)
Mine does the same, 4 raspberries and seems to freeze and not boot. I tried the older oc of v=4 arm2000 gpu650. Still didn't like it. Pi still works if I remove it all though at least lol
Same issue here. Followed the same steps. You can see the white underscore blinking but then will freeze either showing on not showing. Only difference I see compared to videos and help online is that I have some added sections in my config.txt that include NOOBs auto-generated settings including hdmi force hotplug=1 and gpu_mem=128.

WOW. Outstanding video! :-) A question. How to make the overlap effect that I see in this video ? Your person and the RPI 4 screen recording ?
Thanks for watching! To overlap the video, I had my Raspberry Pi plugged into the capture card on my PC
Overclocking a raspberry? I must be too old for this

Was this video done with a 32 bit kernel? Have you tried 64bit kernel and browser?

depends on you, but you're looking around 10 fps+ gain by overclocking, especially when running MAME, a CPU overclock can really help
