    My advice is to place the tape sticky side up inside the jacket then press fabric onto tape

    I snagged mine on a nail that was sticking up slightly in a doorway (not even outdoors!). Doh! I called them (MH is owned by Columbia) and sent the jacket in and they actually replaced the whole panel between the baffle stitch. I recall it being about $40. I have a hard time finding where they did it. They did a spectacular job. And it's about as permanent as you can get. I thought it was well worth the price considering the cost of the jacket, although your solution surely is a good one for the price. Tenacious Tape is awesome. Thanks for the great content. Keep it up!

      I had that thought as a possibility, but then thought there are no panels, simply stitches that create panels to keep the fill from bunching up in one area, am I incorrect. I was going to remove the stitches in the panel but didn't expect a seam. What say you? Thx! (:

    • @karnon1
      @karnon1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jonathansmith9705 I can't pretend to be a seamstress, but upon closer inspection, it does indeed look like they stitched a matching panel of fabric over the old one. Nobody would ever know unless closely inspecting it.

      @@karnon1 Thanks for your thoughts! It seems like the best idea. I will contact the company and ask if there are panels or whether the company was able to sew a nylon piece of fabric over the old "panel." I wanted to try it myself, but doubt they'll have the same fabric handy to send me. I'm very surprised Columbia had a swatch of yours. I'd imagine the fabric and facility would be in China. I'll let you know. Sill beating myself up for wearing it in the woods! My bad. Stay well!

    Push the down to either side of the rip so the nylon isn't sitting on any down at all to apply the patch, then shake the down back in place when you're done. If it's extra filled, use something weighted to pin the down flat. What you want to avoid is loft and static electricity because that's what fluffs down back into the repair field.

    • @johnwyles
      @johnwyles 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good advice. Since this is synthetic and not actual down it’s a lot harder to work with since the fibers are not attached to a root “stem” like in real down and you could just get that feather or troublesome feathers away from the spot and the fibers with it.

    -I think you should have cut more of a square shape
    -maybe keep the tape off the seam
    -Also you could paint the stuffing black or even just paint the top of the tape(as long as the paint/sharpee can't bleed)
    ..And maybe even ironed it(if possible)
    Also I bet boxing tape will work good enough! for some of us who don't want to try to find this product
    ..Actually I'm going to try this process with boxing tape ..I'll lyk if it's a fail!
    LOL! And thanks for the idea buddy! I was Soo pissed when I ripped my favorite jacket looks like yours.

    • @DanBecker
      @DanBecker  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Holly! That’s a great question! I have not yet tried to wash the jacket. I do know that companies do sell specific cleaners for down and also have specific washing instructions. The tag on my jacket says “machine wash cold gentle, do not bleach, tumble dry low, remove promptly, do not iron, do not use fabric softener, do not dry clean”. If you’re planning on washing it make sure you do it on the delicate cycle. Also, I know you can wash down stuff in a bathtub. The main thing is to make sure that you don’t lose any loft. When you dry it, dry it on the delicate cycle with a couple of tennis balls (helps with retaining loft). I would Also highly recommend heading over to Mountain hardwear’s website for proper cleaning instructions.

      I’ve used Tenacious Tape to repair a thumb-sized hole in the knee of some nylon Columbia pants I use for working in the yard. Since the pants are machine washable and go in the dryer (and get used often), I’ve had occasion to wash and dry them more than two dozen times since the repair.
      The patch shows no sign of coming loose, peeling, or fraying. The stuff is amazing! You almost don’t need a sewing kit anymore.
