I'm my area the fruit stands will start selling Reeds in July, mine was already good. Should just get better but yours looks fully ripe. I don't think you can get sick from eating a unripened avocado. Thanks for sharing!

Last year, my Reeds were ready in early May and this year my Reeds started dropping April 21. We have had a lot of rain the past two years and that does impact fruit growth so it could definitely be ready. I don't think you would get sick from eating an avocado that is unripe. Thanks for sharing.

I don't know if this is the case with Reed, but my Lila had a very long flowering period, from late January into early April. Then fruits develop at different rates and sizes. So the possibility remains that it wasn't a fruit from "last year" per se, but one of the earliest pollinated flowers of this season. Perhaps a few flowers opened back in the October/November time frame.

Actually that makes a lot of sense. I tried this Reed a little more and it tastes more than okay but it tastes great. Thank you for sharing your experience, that maybe the case here.

Size looks big enough to be ripe and that loose seed inside tells me it is ripe.

I found huge GEM avocados this past week on sale at Bristol Farms Market for those that have never had the GEM avocado. They ripen in April for the growers.
