States 3 day consumer protection law totally unfair for repair companies that the customers require or request same day services and completed. As a business you have to sue your customers to recover your refund required by law. In Pa you have to go to Supior court to win because the lower courts don’t follow the laws and you get paid maybe the lowest price your customers come into court with. It’s not a gym contract, these are home improvements that customers need fixed same day they can screw the business and the AG position is that you can cancel even if the work was completed the same day. This is where the laws flawed. If I don’t do the work you can cancel 100 days for all I care. Just don’t make contractors a slave and cancel after the work was pre authorized and completed. If you do, a smart contractor will run you through the upper courts and beat this bs law. I’ve won in Supior court ruled that the consumer doesn’t have the right to cancel after the work is done. I made the customer pay legal fees more than the $1400 worth of refund. I took the $3000 legal fees as a tax deduction and the customer had to pay. All Lower courts sided with the consumer and tried to make us work for free. Like hell.
I'm in CA - Regarding HVAC work - what if I signed a 'cancellation waiver'? I was not clear on what I signed to begin with. Also, with a 3 day right to cancel but work was done the same day and I cancel 24 hours later? Am I obligated to pay anything?
It really depends on the contract and which state law controls. In most cases where a 3-day right of recision is provided, you will need to send a letter, fax, and/or email etc. (this is typically spelled out by the state law of in the agreement itself). If there is a 3-day provision, it is really important that you make sure you cancel before the expiration of the 3 days.
Oops. I think I screwed up big time. I don't remember signing any financial documents, but I may have gotten myself into a $50,000+ dental procedure. What, if any, options do I have for cancelling the procedure and payment. This was a free consultation, but that free consultation may have cost me a whole year's salary.
Hello Attorney Peter, I have a contract signed to start a 13week job assignment. I asked the agency to push back my start date for a month and a half. Then they said yes, and provided me a new contract to sign. Does this automatically voids the first contract that I signed? What If i dont sign the new contract cause i just changed my mind to continue working for them (agency) could they fine me for breaching the first contract for not signing the new contract? Thanks
This was really helpful. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching.

What about a deposit for bathroom tile work that was cancelled the next day? No work done and no start date on contract.
What is the process if you want to cancel a agreement for tradeshow seminar within the 3 day cool off periode?
