      That’s how they teach throttle grip at Motor School. Primarily because that position ensures the throttle closes completely during emergency braking and secondarily it helps with throttle control at tight and low speed maneuvering.

    Hey Fast Eddie man! I just simply place hand on the throttle, with 2-4 fingers being able to pull the front brake. Using the padding of my gloves to get the grip and I pull back on the throttle and my fingertips are basically resting on top of the front brake lever. This way when I have to grab my front brake, I just roll off the throttle and my fingers naturally wrap the front brake lever allowing me to pull in the front brake lever. I learned that from you by the way Greg. From one of your older videos.

      I have to do this on my '21 MT09SP as the rotation required to get wide open throttle (not that I use WOT much) looks similar to this MT07. Main downside is if you just roll off normally to closed throttle position it's harder to quickly get to the brake, so just have to remember to let the grip slip through the palm back to closed throttle. I feel the other techniques to get WOT shown in the video don't really work for me as the acceleration is so strong that it's difficult to maintain dexterity without full hand contact with the grip.

    Wrist worm is kind of dangerous tbh. Sometimes you might lose the grip and completely chop the throttle which might make your bike hard to control. I usually use my middle two fingers and thumb to always be in grip with the throttle and then I use my pointing finger to use the front brake. works good enough for me. A lot of new riders completely just dump their throttles in stress situations so its a habit to learn. Also, its much smoother riding experience on your body if you practice your roll offs properly

    Depends on what I am doing, for me. If at the dragstrip, I hamfist it to get full throttle and a good hold on the bars for a hard launch. If canyon carving, I hold only my fingertips on the throttle to make is easier to hold a good, solid, and smooth throttle. No need to cover front brakes, in the corners, as it will stand the bike up and not corner, if used. Drag the rear and "back it in" if need to slow a little. This has always worked for me.

    This is really useful as I've been riding for three years but only 125ccs, and only last month got a 700 so the throttle has become much more important XD I have noticed though that keeping your hand still and dropping your wrist right down does encourage you to lean forward when accelerating hard to balance the bike which isn't awful but I'll certainly try this technique tomorrow. Thanks!

    • @alexserafini5205
      @alexserafini5205 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The main reason this is a bad idea (bent wrist with throttle open) is that it increases the distance from your hand to the brake lever, this reduces your reaction time but even worse: it allows for more acceleration of your hand so that when you grab the brake in an emergency, there is far too much pressure and you risk the front wheel locking or flying forward over the bars (surprise stoppie)

    One question: why do some people recommend keeping both brakes covered?
    I understand the response time is upped if you have to reach. But if you should never swerve and brake at the same time, doesn't keeping it covered just give you a bad option? I do cover my brakes, but it's more of a I'm prepared to stop mentality vs a I can just move outta the way mental state.

    I was going to ask about more concentrated throttles, like custom linkages to make the twist shorter, or adjusting electric throttles to ramp up in a shorter twist. But I'm guessing a throttle that goes from nothing to fully open in half or two-thirds the normal twist range, would be too dangerous or difficult to control & master. Especially on rough terrain.
    ...Maybe we all should be thumb-throttles like a snowmobile or ATV? Or maybe a finger trigger on one side of the right grip, and a short, reverse mounted brake lever on the other, like those bar-end brake-levers? Or maybe linked brakes lever on the right, throttle lever or trigger on the left?
    I always found it odd, how vulnerable we are to "whiskey throttling", acceleration making our shoulders and the throttle go back, and how aware & guarded we have to be of our entire right arm, being grabbed or caught on something, all because of the fundamental design flaw of a twist throttle.
    It feels weird, but not as weird as thinking about what to replace a twist throttle with. What can give that dimmer switch precision, but more security & comfort?
    I've ridden rented e-bikes with thumb-thottles before. It felt nice and stable, even though the little lever was badly designed, making my hand do the Thumbs-up gesture for hours. But if it was more under the bargrip, and diagonal, I think I would love it. Maybe put it on all my bikes.
    There is a concern of getting them caught on winter barmitts, though.

  • @alextaya6797
    @alextaya6797 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Sorry to say it but this is wrong. You’re not supposed to move your wrist, you are supposed to lower your arm. When you accelerate you have to lean forward, by doing that your arm automatically goes lower, so does your wrist. And when you’re slowing down you get back up again, automatically you’ll lift your arm thus your wrist. That’s one of the first things you’re supposed to learn when getting your license. It prevents many accidental accelerations when having to emergency break.

    On old bikes i see the point, but on a new bike. I rarely twist it all the way, since 1/3 gives more than enough to get the revs screaming. Otherwise the ofroad screwdriver style is also a nice tip, only the elbow goes a bit wider

    I like to turn my hand counter clockwise a little bit so I have the right-rear of my palm very close to, if not on, the bar end. Hold the throttle like and ice cream cone so your wrist/forearm is doing the twisting and not so much your whole arm/shoulder. As people have said before it’s like turning a doorknob or a screwdriver, or using a knife. Allows for more comfortable/smoother throttle control. Once I started riding like this it feels unnatural to go back.

    R6 throttle tube and r6 grips. The difference is night and day. Factory MT-07 requires a full 90° of rotation (1/4 turn) to go from idle to full throttle. The Motion Pro throttle tube requires 72° of rotation (1/5 turn) to perform the same operation. The R6 throttle tube requires the least amount of rotation with only 60° (1/6 turn). That's just the tube the grip is also night and day batter. Best $40 you will ever spend. Your right it's best not to use your wrist as this makes your right arm shorter than your left. If you roll on using your shoulder more than your wrist your arms stay equal in length. Practice holding a set of bars in front of you making all the motions. Doing a wheelie with one arm longer than the other is going to result in a tank slapper. Repositioning your hand and having no idea where closed throttle is madness. What's important is knowing where closed throttle is and knowing when the bars are straight. Don't mess with your datum's. This throttle tube will help you and your jacked up wrists I promise you. Also the grips are just nicer to touch. You will be loving it. It's really a no brainer.

    Just a thought…on the Fz6 you can replace the throttle tube with the R6 one which reduces the amount of rotation needed for full throttle… thought be good for track bike 👌

    That throttle seems to have a very large amount of turn in from zero to full throttle compared to mine. I only noticed it because I just installed heated grips and had to mark where mine started and where it ended and I have about 1 inch or so. Maybe it's because my bike maxes out at 95 mph. Could they get a different throttle so they are not having to rotate so much?

    Seriously, , right before my wrist starts to flex I roll back with my middle finger my index finger into my index finger touches my palm and then I just lift the outside of my hand up roll It Forward while holding it with my first two in my mini part of my thumb.. I have never not maintaining three points of contact!! Make sure pretty smooth operation if you can get the transition silky enough. Just remember practice does not make perfect perfect practice makes perfect. And slower smooth and smooth fast! Except for faster 😁. That's the best advice I can give after 41 years of practicing almost daily.

    You see the throttle of my Honda XLR 250R is a bit more stiff then the mordean then my motorbike so I basically can't twist the throttle with my fingers I have to twist the throttle with my reset.

    I installed a paddle to relax my grip during cruise.Once I had to do a slow speed panic stop to avoid the car in front of me BUT as I did full braking my wrist rotated the paddle causing accelleration at the same time.
    The bike lurched forward and left inbetween two cars.One on my left,one to my right.The bike WHEELIED UP,then dropped down between them.My right calf got slightly bruised and the left side of the tank got scraped.But it all happened in SLO MO.As it was in progress I was only concerned with the damage to the bike and not me.

    I'm a beginner, i'm having trouble from releasing clutch and giving throttles, afraid the bike will stalls so i releases the clutch pretty slow in result of slower acceleration.
    Is it okay if i let go the clutch instantly after shifting up ? do i need to apply throttles instanly too ? is it the same with shifting down?

    I've never used full throttle in any bike i have ridden. Max I can rotate is the speed i can control in any bike. I keep this measure since i started riding bikes at 16. Eighteen years later never had an accident related to speed or loose control.

    The wrist throttle thing is incredibly unsafe too. You will severely injure your wrist if you ever get into an accident. Majority of the force of the impact will be entirely on your wrists joint.

    Yeah this could be useful on highway cruising.. but in day to day traffic. If anything suddenly happened we can be thrown off from the bike before we can react.. it's better to keep hands atleast hold the handle bar.. I think what your suggesting is for me doesn't look good. Just my opinion.
