Thinking the same thing. Justin is awesome about stuff like that, so let's give him a pass. Love you Justin! Also, this vid is up to 679K views! Should be about a million !@!!@!!!!
Stillwater Sonder It will be done! Maybe not today cos I feel too sad, but I think whole series of tribute lessons would be appropriate. I never had the pleasure of meeting him, but I've spent so many hours learning his music I feel like I know him. Appropriate great quote "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened". His music will live forever and he lived a long life and was celebrated in his lifetime! RIP
I don’t normally bother commenting on videos but your voice is comforting, your attitude is enthusiastic, and your playing is in tune and on par...so I think you’ve absolutely nailed this tutorial. Thanks to you, I could play this song in an hour and a half
Got really frustrated at first but I finally got the first part, gonna try to learn the remaining parts in the rest of the week. Thanks for the lesson Justin!
Mike d and David w. Check out ; The last steam engine train. Leo kottke plays it, but written by John Fahey? It's got that catchy E sound like this song. You guys might dig it. Peace.
James D Just checked him out, seems to me that he's a great guitarist. I am not that into that country sound though. Do you have any idea why I've never heard of him?
I've been trying too learn this from other people on TH-cam and haven't had much success. But after watching you I've managed to get it down. Counting it out for me was a big help. I've subscribed to your channel.Thank You!
I've been trying to learn this from other videos that miss the little details you have done a masterful job of including in an easy way to follow. Thank you.
Thanks for the reminder of how important it is to start off slowly , I tend to want to jump in at full speed (I know better not too ) but still do at times, thanks for the great lesson !
I don’t usually leave comments on YT videos but here’s for you. Thanks Justin a lot. I was looking at some other videos of this song to play but I was struggling yesterday, today I found yours and guess what. I can now play it as well as how you played (same pace) in the beginning. You’re explanation and everything is for everyone. And I’m not a beginner player but this is really for everyone. Thanks a lot, cheers!
thanks to you, Justin, I am learning songs I always wanted to know and it is painless! Just learned Hole hearted. Never thought I would be able to play that riffffffff.....
Tricky little lesson! This is my 3rd attempt, I tried a couple years ago, and then about a year ago, and now I do believe I got it nailed! When I have it spot on I'm posting a video on TH-cam coz I cant believe I'm playing Big Bill Broonzy! Wow! Thanks Justin. I have had a similar experience with Neil Young's 'Old Man' - just about nailed that too, have tried a few times in the past and not quite managed it also. What a buzz! I guess I am a real guitarist after all ! Moral: PERSEVERE!
I officially got a blister on my ring finger from practicing but dammmn it's worth it considering the joy of playing this song thanks to you Justin! Great one!
Whew! That's what I'm talking about! I had to watch this video 4 times, but I got it up to speed. Thanks, Justin! I will be playing this on my next gig for sure.
Great explanation, Justin. Thx! Got to say though, that what makes Broonzy's playing of this (the creator, of course) so dynamic, is his driving bass beat. What a thumb! The same could be said of various other old time blues pickers, including RJ, it was the thumb work that makes them stand out and few people really get this these days. I'd include Clapton in that too.
Thanks Justin. The two versions that I heard were the ones by Jerry Ricks in the Blues documentary and by Big Bill Broonzy. Thanks for all your lessons.
Great lesson! I love the back and forth between the higher notes and lower notes. It actually sounds a little like a woman (higher notes) arguing or complaining about something, to a man (lower notes) which fits the lyrics perfectly.
Thank you so much. Have you considered supporting Justin and his mission of ‘teaching the world to play’? If you are able, every donation enables him to make more lessons and content free to all. www.justinguitar.com/donate 😊 | Richard_close2u | JustinGuitar Official Guide & Approved Teacher
Wow. What a great lesson Justin. I can actually play this now! I really like your teaching style. The counting is especially helpful for a rhythmically challenged person such as myself. :-) Thanks so much! I hope to learn a lot from you.
Great lesson Justin. You are a gifted teacher. Took me a while to get the TAB worked out. I would have paid at least ten pounds for one sheet of A4 with the TABs.
Hi Justin, we Germans say "sehr geil"! Thank you so much for this great lesson for this great song! I never thought I would learn this so quickly! Great explanation at just the right speed!
***** I think people just want to show off their music knowledge that Clapton didn't compose the piece. This is Eric Clapton's version of the song, no doubt, and you did an amazing job on this tutorial, Justin!
***** Love your work; I think the point people are trying to make (other than showing off) is that it's a generally helpful and karmically positive thing to refer to the 'real' originator of the song, especially when they're probably not as well known as they deserve to be. It's difficult of course with so many blues tracks that are 'traditionals', but it seems a shame when people think 'Hey Hey' is an Eric Clapton song, rather than his arrangement.
Thank you as always. I have been cobbling together lessons from TH-cam and then found this with the verses as well. I should have known to just come straight to you 🤷♂️
This lesson is great. Honestly, I actually prefer the lack of tab because I like how you not only give us the timing, but give us the 'no BS' explanation of licks and chords (well if you hit these 3 strings instead of just the highest 2, it'll sound fine, don't worry). Thanks!
I wish you'd mentioned that this is a Big Bill Broonzy tune. He's worthy of respect and worth researching.
Thinking the same thing. Justin is awesome about stuff like that, so let's give him a pass. Love you Justin! Also, this vid is up to 679K views! Should be about a million !@!!@!!!!
You did
It's written clearly in the description above that it's a Broonzy cover.
You have broken this down and explained it so well! Many thanks, Justin!
Nizamuddin Amer Thanks :)
I myself have a photograph of me playing guitar as my profile photo on here. I am on the beach though near my house
Best lesson yet particularly the emphasis of practicing slowly to nail things down right.
Please do a lesson on The Thrill is Gone as a tribute to BB King..
RIP The King of Blues.
Stillwater Sonder It will be done! Maybe not today cos I feel too sad, but I think whole series of tribute lessons would be appropriate.

***** If possible and you have the time I suggest a play in the "style" of lesson(s). (Would be great for other players too : Hendr., SRV, ...)
***** Got to say I loved Lenny Kravitz`s words, "Anyone could play a thousand notes and never say what BB said in one".
This post is fabulous Justin. Without it, I could have never learned this song. Thanks. You're a great guitar professor...
Loving this lesson thanks. One of my favourite Big Bill songs.
I don’t normally bother commenting on videos but your voice is comforting, your attitude is enthusiastic, and your playing is in tune and on par...so I think you’ve absolutely nailed this tutorial. Thanks to you, I could play this song in an hour and a half
Yes yes yes!
Learned this two years ago. Forgot some parts, back to the video, and I've got it down again in 5 min. Thank you very much
Got really frustrated at first but I finally got the first part, gonna try to learn the remaining parts in the rest of the week.
Thanks for the lesson Justin!
Mike D I'm interested to know how you got on? 😄🎸
@David Williamson, Kinda forgot about this one, haha. Just came back to learn the last two bars. Still going a bit slow but it's getting there!
Yeah, I only fancy certain sounds the song has.
Are you talking about John Fahey?
You gotta know Leo.
Thanks again Justin, you always know how to break it down into small bites and remind us to just take it slow !
I've been trying too learn this from other people on TH-cam and haven't had much success. But after watching you I've managed to get it down. Counting it out for me was a big help. I've subscribed to your channel.Thank You!
