In my opinion the most interesting one is the advanced pawn. Historically it was common for pawns to be promoted to the piece they had behind, a proof of this is Tamerlane chess. What I had never seen is the pawn behaving like a mini-[piece they have behind], and it looks extremely interesting.
"List of chess variants" is a Wikipedia list article. Previously, I have jokingly urged people not to read it in its entirety, as I once read it in its entirety and it ended up sucking up a huge amount of my time. But I always thought that at least I managed to visit every corner of the world of chess variants, meaning that nothing could surprise me anymore. Today, I learned about two fairy chess pieces known as the berserker pawn and the cruise pawn. I was wrong.

Who the heck is saying that Pawns aren't Chess pieces? The definition of a Chess piece is something you move across a Chess board when playing a game of Chess, so Pawns are, by definition, Chess pieces, as you move them across a Chess board when playing a game of Chess.
