Morrowind Any% Speedrun in

- Teh first ever sub 2:30 in any%!!!! I've narrowed it down to just one major mistake: looting the Icarian Flight scrolls from Tarhiel was pretty scuffed. Also, the Census Office segment could have been a bit faster. Other than that, everything was really solid!

You know a speedrun is good when you don't understand what is happening most of the time.
Imagine being a guard on that ship and seeing a prisoner jump 4 miles to kill God
Vivec: “Wonder when the Nere - wait, why do I suddenly feel mortal?”
Almexia: Oh Chim!
Always a treat watching you runs. Would be cool if you could make a detailed video where you explain all glitches and tricks!
What on earth did I just watch lol The final boss got owned so hard he was still speaking his initial monologue when the ending was running.
I know this wasn't the biggest time save compared to your previous run, but the trade house ramp was soo much smoother this go around. Feels good.
This is just as big of an improvement I think since the lower your time is, the harder it is to save time! But yeah this was a really nice run to break the sub 2:30 milestone
@@volvulusx5043 I just meant that the arrile trade house split was not the most significant split in this run, but it was the one that I noticed the most
Classic morrowind, moving so fast that you phase through the walls, it's happened to me on regular let's plays a few times.
What a grand and intoxicating run!
Would love a breakdown, even as a fan it's hard to follow what you're doing haha
Damn, homie finished the game in less time than it takes me to make a character.
I find it funny how the tutorial takes up most of the entire run. This game is hilariously broken.
makes me wonder if theres a route/strat using the default character glitch to skip it
What makes me love this so much is how long and full of a game it is and how short the speedrub is. Games like skyrim, oblivion, the witcher 3 etc cant ever be that short
As someone that has played over 6000 hours of Morrowind, this is really impressive. I only understand what's happening because I'm so familiar with the game, but it's absolutely mad how you can pull it off. Well done.
Well, thanks! Honestly, the any% run is pretty uninteresting when you really break it down, I mean there's only a little over 2 minutes worth of gameplay involved.
While the route has actually gone through some changes recently (skipping the potion shop), which was discovered/workshopped pretty close to the time of posting of this video, there just really isn't much to it in terms of a cool or interesting route, I think. It's really easy to learn how to complete an any% run, after just a bit of information on a few tricky parts and not even an hour's worth of practice.
This is of course made up for by having very optimized execution in all facets, with maybe only about 3 seconds left of timesave that I could see someone out there achieving. This is until some small optimization or maybe even something more significant is discovered, but who knows when that will happen? People have been doing this run on and off for a bit over a decade now, it feels pretty unlikely something will be found to help save more time after that potion shop trip was cut out.
I think the longer runs are more interesting, including the all main quests run, the all factions run, and even the DLC. I even did one of a pretty long mod called Sotha Sil Expanded.
These runs show off a lot more of the game. While not having as perfect execution as any%, there is still of course a lot of drive to do everything as quickly as possible. It's like, in this run only the last 30 seconds are truly the super speedy parts. However in the all main quests run, you get basically another 10 minutes of very fast gameplay at this high speed. I just think the ratio is much better.
@@volvulusx5043 While I respect the hell out of speedrunners, that level of commitment that leads you to playing the same thing thousands of times to find new ways to shave a tenth of a second off of a run, it's not for me. I play games to explore, to discover. I'm actually working on a mod for Morrowind that adds a ton of new spells and magic items - weapons, armor, clothing, potions, scrolls, and so on - and puts them all around the game world. I've noticed in my own playthroughs of the game that I sort of learn to recognize the different caves, and I know "oh, only a few bandits in here, no good loot". My mod is designed to bring back that sense of exploration and wonder by giving players a reason to investigate all the little caves and shrines and tombs around the game world, poke into all the hidden alcoves and dark corners, and hopefully reinvigorate and restore that sense of wonder that I felt when I first played Morrowind.
I'm by no means an expert, there are no new models or anything, just new content built on existing assets, and I'm not the BEST at scripting, but I've worked in a bunch. One thing I did was use the script on the book that teaches the spell to summon a dwarven sphere and tweak it so that the new spells I made can be learned from books that I place in the world, rather than have to stick an NPC in random locations.
Imagine Azura being like... "Good, the Nerevarine has left the boat in Seyda... wait what? How is he flying to Vemyna- HOW DID HE GET KEEN- NOW HE HAS SUN- THE HEART IS DESTROYED ALREADY, HOW?"
WOW, what an incredible run!
Saw this and have joined the discord looking for my first game(s) to speedrun! Nice run
crazy dude, first time watching a speedrun of this game and that was stunning to watch as a Morrowind fan
Watch the live version at GDQ insane
Good job! Congrats!
Damn, awesome job!
congratz!
swag
we are the HxC TES speedrunners
nice job!
Skyrim speedrun: by exploiting the save feature, I can clip through the map and finish the game!
Oblivion speedrun: by exploiting the save feature, I can clip through the map and finish the game!
Morrowind speedrun: *by drinking copious amounts of skooma and using an ingame spell, I can defy physics*
The last one is actually way more true for Oblivion than it is Morrowind, we almost never use Skooma in any runs. There's like one Morrowind category that I can think of that uses it, but it's just one Skooma in the entire run. Unfortunate but it is what it is
Dagoth Ur: What a fool you are WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! STOP!! *dies* how can you kill a god :(
There it is!
fulfill prophecy smarter, not harder
Amazing
Nice!
I guess he must have been really a chosen one
absolutely bonkers
this is actually amazing what the hell..
is there a video that explain this ANY% speedrun ?
king shit🤴🤴
Hey @Voluvulus x when do you make a new video?
Haha. I miss Morrowind. It lags or you buff your speed to 1k and run through wall seams or doorways, haha. Good times.
Very nice video, mate.
How did you survive your fall damage at 2:34? Did you cast another icarian flight scroll there and just have enough stats from adrenaline rush? Or is it landing in that exact spot in the wall? And is this something that is fixed in GOTY
The way Acrobatics works is that it increases your jump height and decreases fall damage. So if you are under the effect of an Icarian Flight Scroll while you land, you won't take any damage. So, this is an intended mechanic in the game.
I remember speedruns abusing alchemy.... This one abused my vision - I can't see WTF is happening
Alchemy? Sounds like a slow run
@2:44 How did picking up Keening suddenly give your stats such a huge boost?
You also had slight boosts before and even more boosts with Sunder later.
In the 1.0 version of the game, rapidly between Keening and another weapon maintains the stat buffs that Keening provides. There is no limit to the amount of times you can do this. I also had adrenaline rush still active from when I casted it in the beginning as I'm talking to Sellus Gracious. Sunder provides other stat bonuses while you have it equipped. You can also gain it's stats infinitely/permanently with the same method but it's not helpful for saving time in this run.
@@volvulusx5043 So 1.0 is without Tribunal, Bloodmoon or the full GOTY edition, just Morrowind base game. Is that right?
@@gm2407 yep, but you can also play the base game without the expansions in the current version of the game. Anyway, if you have the GoTY version of the game on PC you can get the 1.0 version simply by replacing some files, which are found on Speedrun.com/Morrowind page in the Resources section
@@volvulusx5043 Thanks. I got GOTY free the other day. But I have each of the disks anyway so can play 1.0.
Hey volvulus x i have a question ❓ how do you switch so fast the keening and the to an other weapon i tried a lot but i failed. Pls help
I'm guessing you are not on patch 1.0? It only works in that one. You can get it from speedrun.com/Morrowind in resources section. You have to just make sure to disable expansions before replacing the files, then use Morrowind.exe to start the game
@@volvulusx5043 ty so much i searched all day long for this version TY SOOOOOO MUCHHHH!!!!
Ah yes, beating a 20+ hour main quest in just over 2 minutes
How do yoy deal with the constant crashes vanilla morrowind has
I get like 1 every 2-3 hours or so, it's not that bad
This is ridiculous
Wait, is that the same Matty as the one from sr.com? Nvm if not haha
@@volvulusx5043 Yeah!
Wow, this guy misspelled "steel platter" and he obviously never played Morrowind before because it isn't even made of steel! (To be clear, joke)
I love how Dagoth Ur is telling you've come unprepared at the same time he is calling you a fool for thinking you could kill him while ALSO saying it is the bitter end, ALL THE WHILE Azura is telling you great job.
Morrowind N'wah speedrun when?
did you remove the [WR] as soon as Nick Schiavo got the 2 27?
Yup, as one should
Haha nice
2:28 .. Can it be any faster?
I think personally I could get a high 2:26 time, maybe someone out there can do better but only time will tell
why are you killing the sunder guy with a lockpick?
It's faster than killing him with anything else!
Swapping to something else takes time
@@GabrielConstantinides yes, particularly it's that the other weapons you have take multiple hits to kill, while lockpick is a one hit kill
It unlocks his death.
This is cracked
it's a little bit fast
@@volvulusx5043 How many hours did it take to reach this level of efficiency
@@Banana-ej5ji well I probably had around 1200 hours of Morrowind Speedrun experience at the time of this run, but I'm sure someone out there would not need as much time
Wait, so “NOCLIPPING” is allowed for a speed run?
It's not done via console so yes. This is any% so natural glitches such as that are allowed. Again, no console commands are allowed.
Whats mods is he using?
None, per the rules
@@volvulusx5043 Haha I was joking, its clearly Vanilla.
World record, no? Congrats!
Yup, it's the current record per speedrun.com/morrowind
@@volvulusx5043 Amazing run. Just checked and seems you been dethroned by as little as 2 seconds.
Huh
