As someone that has played over 6000 hours of Morrowind, this is really impressive. I only understand what's happening because I'm so familiar with the game, but it's absolutely mad how you can pull it off. Well done.
Well, thanks! Honestly, the any% run is pretty uninteresting when you really break it down, I mean there's only a little over 2 minutes worth of gameplay involved. While the route has actually gone through some changes recently (skipping the potion shop), which was discovered/workshopped pretty close to the time of posting of this video, there just really isn't much to it in terms of a cool or interesting route, I think. It's really easy to learn how to complete an any% run, after just a bit of information on a few tricky parts and not even an hour's worth of practice. This is of course made up for by having very optimized execution in all facets, with maybe only about 3 seconds left of timesave that I could see someone out there achieving. This is until some small optimization or maybe even something more significant is discovered, but who knows when that will happen? People have been doing this run on and off for a bit over a decade now, it feels pretty unlikely something will be found to help save more time after that potion shop trip was cut out. I think the longer runs are more interesting, including the all main quests run, the all factions run, and even the DLC. I even did one of a pretty long mod called Sotha Sil Expanded. These runs show off a lot more of the game. While not having as perfect execution as any%, there is still of course a lot of drive to do everything as quickly as possible. It's like, in this run only the last 30 seconds are truly the super speedy parts. However in the all main quests run, you get basically another 10 minutes of very fast gameplay at this high speed. I just think the ratio is much better.
@@volvulusx5043 While I respect the hell out of speedrunners, that level of commitment that leads you to playing the same thing thousands of times to find new ways to shave a tenth of a second off of a run, it's not for me. I play games to explore, to discover. I'm actually working on a mod for Morrowind that adds a ton of new spells and magic items - weapons, armor, clothing, potions, scrolls, and so on - and puts them all around the game world. I've noticed in my own playthroughs of the game that I sort of learn to recognize the different caves, and I know "oh, only a few bandits in here, no good loot". My mod is designed to bring back that sense of exploration and wonder by giving players a reason to investigate all the little caves and shrines and tombs around the game world, poke into all the hidden alcoves and dark corners, and hopefully reinvigorate and restore that sense of wonder that I felt when I first played Morrowind. I'm by no means an expert, there are no new models or anything, just new content built on existing assets, and I'm not the BEST at scripting, but I've worked in a bunch. One thing I did was use the script on the book that teaches the spell to summon a dwarven sphere and tweak it so that the new spells I made can be learned from books that I place in the world, rather than have to stick an NPC in random locations.
This is just as big of an improvement I think since the lower your time is, the harder it is to save time! But yeah this was a really nice run to break the sub 2:30 milestone
@@volvulusx5043 I just meant that the arrile trade house split was not the most significant split in this run, but it was the one that I noticed the most
Imagine Azura being like... "Good, the Nerevarine has left the boat in Seyda... wait what? How is he flying to Vemyna- HOW DID HE GET KEEN- NOW HE HAS SUN- THE HEART IS DESTROYED ALREADY, HOW?"

Skyrim speedrun: by exploiting the save feature, I can clip through the map and finish the game! Oblivion speedrun: by exploiting the save feature, I can clip through the map and finish the game! Morrowind speedrun: *by drinking copious amounts of skooma and using an ingame spell, I can defy physics*
The last one is actually way more true for Oblivion than it is Morrowind, we almost never use Skooma in any runs. There's like one Morrowind category that I can think of that uses it, but it's just one Skooma in the entire run. Unfortunate but it is what it is
In the 1.0 version of the game, rapidly between Keening and another weapon maintains the stat buffs that Keening provides. There is no limit to the amount of times you can do this. I also had adrenaline rush still active from when I casted it in the beginning as I'm talking to Sellus Gracious. Sunder provides other stat bonuses while you have it equipped. You can also gain it's stats infinitely/permanently with the same method but it's not helpful for saving time in this run.
@@gm2407 yep, but you can also play the base game without the expansions in the current version of the game. Anyway, if you have the GoTY version of the game on PC you can get the 1.0 version simply by replacing some files, which are found on Speedrun.com/Morrowind page in the Resources section
You could have done 2 minutes 22 seconds and 76 milliseconds. You can skip from 1:40 to 1:46 simply by jumping on the right side of the wall behind the barrel to get directly outside. I will never understand how those speed runners aren't checking such small details...
@@gaelromanet issue with this is that this means you can't save, making clipping very hard and overall losing more time. I don't expect any future WRs to use this strategy. So yes, we did consider this
How did you survive your fall damage at 2:34? Did you cast another icarian flight scroll there and just have enough stats from adrenaline rush? Or is it landing in that exact spot in the wall? And is this something that is fixed in GOTY
The way Acrobatics works is that it increases your jump height and decreases fall damage. So if you are under the effect of an Icarian Flight Scroll while you land, you won't take any damage. So, this is an intended mechanic in the game.
I'm guessing you are not on patch 1.0? It only works in that one. You can get it from speedrun.com/Morrowind in resources section. You have to just make sure to disable expansions before replacing the files, then use Morrowind.exe to start the game
