The fact that the 0-60 comment from Mr Davis included the words 'same as a Z06' is wild!
yea but the Z06 was just getting started at the end of the 1/4, whilst the cybertrukk was falling flat on its face. and in every single other category, Z06 crushes it. did i mention it has 250 more hp ?

I've seen a few here in Minnesota but I always have to supress my laughter. They should come with a large tarp with an old rusted ICE truck silk screened on it to disguise it when it gets stuck. Being rescued by an old ICE tow truck has to be the ultimate humilation for the owner of a $100k+ EV.

I've seen one of these in my neck of the woods in the exact same black wrap as the test vehicle. One thing about them is that there is no mistaking them from anything else on the road. You don't realize how big they are until you see one up close. They are almost as wide as a normal parking space.

A 220 volt generator would be a lot cheaper.
@DUCKSAREEVILLLLLLLL yes but it is kind of a pain in the ass to carry around. I had an off grid welding project where I was welding stuff inside of a cave recently that required a 220v welder and sticking my gas generator into and out of the back of my truck six times over the course of a month was a pain in the ass. The heavy cords we needed were only 50ft long so we had to put up with the extreme noise for 8hrs straight. A 100kw battery truck would have been much nicer.
As a longtime viewer and fan of MotorWeek( I’m 63) , and a longtime follower of Tesla and electric vehicles, and a four year owner of a Tesla Model 3, IM0, love it or hate the Cybertruck , love electric cars or hate them, The Cybertruck is a vehicle that is light years away from what John and his crew were testing in the 80’s and the 90’s, and is a vehicle that people from the 70’s and 80’s probably would have expected to be on the streets in the year 2024, a full 24 years after the year everyone used to talk about, “ The Year 2000” .
I too am a longtime viewer and fan of MotorWeek( I’m 61) and going on two years as a Lyriq owner. It can be said that the vehicles in the market today that are part of the conversion process to electric only propulsion. That would be light years away from what John and his crew were testing in the 80’s and the 90’s (true), however the market place shift from ICE base vehicles was not in the public conscience 24 years back. IMO the Cybertruck is a misplaced image from one man of his vision of coolness and not representative of the marketplace in 2024. The most recent purchase I made was an electric vehicle pickup truck. I chose the Silverado EV RST which better fit my taste and needs.
Yeah in the 90s you could see out the window and control the Aircon without a screen.....
Don't really care all that much about the sleek Cybertruck, but seeing John Davis doing another ep of Motorweek brings back good memories from watching MW in the 80s and 90s.
I saw one the other day and my immediate response was laughter not whoa cool!

And is eligible for 7500 EV credit and 7500 business EV credit. That’s 15k off the price. Incredible value.

Thank you for a rational review. I'm intrigued by the Cybertruck. I love the non-boring styling but I'm mostly impressed with the tech--steer by wire, 4wheel steering and the gigacastings. They just started showing up on local roads around me. In person, the Cybertruck is smaller then it appears in print or on video, which is a good thing.
I have a few around me and I thought the opposite: it’s way bigger than pics and vids show imo

One ridiculously huge thing he missed is the fact that this truck drives itself. I can’t believe how people seem to not care about such an incredible achievement for human kind.

@@mbox314that’s not true. It’ll be like horses, many people disliked gasoline vehicles back in the day, they said that horses will go extinct. Nowadays you can still mount a horse if that’s your thing, but self propelled vehicles are better than horse riding.

@supersingular nearly all major highways prohibit non-motorized vehicles, it is not nesasarily illegal but completely unspoorted unless there is a large population of amish or menonites around.
@@mbox314 the cybertruck has what’s called “supervised full self driving” so, someone has to be behind the wheel.

I love my Cybertruck! Anyone who spends some time driving one will wish that all cars drove just like it. It's my first EV, and now I'm such a fan I don't think I'll ever buy another ICE vehicle.

Belongs in a music video or cruising along Miami Beach instead of a work site. A unique fashion-forward "truck" for celebrities or rap artists.

I own one and it is the best driving truck out there for 90 percent of people. It doesn't drive like a truck. You talk about controls. One you profile you only have to change the radio of fan speed. Which can also be done by voice . Which tell me you haven't driven more than a few minutes if you even have driven on e. Also it the best sell ev truck.
@@popcultureaddict733 it the first truck this multipurpose .it can be in a video at work site on the trail and you run around truck that cheap to drive .. In short cool looking durable and cheap to drive and fun to drive . Its not just a truck. I used to drive my dodge because I had not because I wanted to. I now only want to drive my cyber truck. And you won't understand that till you drive one.
I'm most disappointed that there was no mention of its lack of voltmeter and oil pressure gauges! 😂

It's amazing that the HUMMER E is a ton heavier than the CT. I mean WTH is in that thing? Seen a ton...yes pun intended...of CT's in my neighborhood. Some wrapped pretty nice. I do agree the unwrapped ones look filthy after awhile. The truck needs a wrap. Haven't seen one Hummer yet. Oh and bless John for still being around and doing Motorweek! Love his voice and enthusiasm! He's been around since I was a little kid! He maybe old now but he's still the best at Motorweek!

Ive owned a automotive repair facility for the last 25 years. I just picked up my BEAST 2 weeks ago. Let me be the first to tell you this is the future. I'll personally never own another combustible engine vehicle. This is my 3rd Tesla product. And the speed on this truck is unbelievable.
Just don’t crash it and it catches on fire. No one can break the windows and pull you out. It has happened and it really is a safety design flaw.
I've started seeing these all over now.
The new Chevy Silverado EV work truck goes 440 miles for 70k or less. Really the only practical replacement for a ICE truck available. Cybertrucks price and range is the deal killer unless you just need the attention.
Valid points about the the Silvy EV. But with bulletproof panels, only the CyberTruck is Walmart and Home Depot proof 😂

Very valid point. Plus if it's a bit cold and u add something to tow, u will get about 90 miles per charge. U won't be able to go from one side to the other in a big city in the USA. Plus the no rust claim is yet to be determined. Tesla claimed a lot of things, bullet proof glass, self driving (selling it since 2018) but nothing yet. Over promise, under deliver. Factor in depreciation on it's $100k original price, it's better to go to Vegas and spend ur $100k with some ShowGirls and have fun instead of buying this.....thing.
@@PANOSDX1968 just say you have driven one. The rust is from the iron in the air. If you wash and don't dry it will pick up iron the air. Your car does the same thing. But it takes longer to see since you have paint. On your car you use a spray to get rid of it . On the cyber truck use bars keepers friends to get it off and Windex .
Mid 11s from a stock vehicle is quite impressive.
Can we all just appreciate Tesla's chutzpah to release a vehicle that obviously wasn't run past endless focus groups.

Seems you don't need mechanical redundancy when opening rear doors since software does the trick. Just ask TFL and their THREE WEEK odyssey of trying to open the rear doors after yet another Tesla fail.

The area usually reserved for an engine is plenty spacious enough for an LS transplant.

The biggest question for me would be reliability. I've read a lot of horror stories about this vehicle, some of which may be true. I also don't need anything that big or that... fancy for my use. I think I could honestly buy a 40 year old Toyota Hilux, spend some money to refurbish it and have a more reliable truck I would enjoy more for a lot less money.
Or a Ford Maverick hybrid, gets better fuel economy than a Honda Civic, it's based on the Ford Escape platform, and can haul enough for any first-time truck buyer

I saw this truck in person, if you need to load something on it’s side, you’ll need a ladder. Design for design’s sake.

@@coastaku1954 the Ford Maverick is stuck at one height. The Cybertruck gives you a big range for many applications. They'll sell a single motor version eventually which will be cheaper for those that want to spend big still.
The question I have been asking, which no one has answered, is how did they get past pedestrian impact regulations? The front of that vehicle has very sharp corners.
By ignoring them.
Most likely FSD software. This is the only pickup with a brain. If you steer to close, it will freak out, & avoid colliding.
There are no US pedestrian impact regulations for trucks.
Edit: if you think the USA should have pedestrian safety standards, contact your local politician(s)!!!

No, they did not "disregard" it... they mentioned it, in a balanced dialogue but in the history books, it's still going down as one bad ass product, that was created in the early 21st century.

It will be remembered as the Pinto of the 2020s. Brakes that aren't at all responsive, dangerously slow steering, frunk that severs fingers.... i can keep going. I like EVs but this is garbage. The EU was right to ban them.

John Davis is as smooth as he's always been, but let me summarize MotorWeek's review of the towing:
People complain how ugly and ridiculous this thing is but that's kind why I like it. The Lightning, Silverado EV, and Rivian start to blend in with every other truck out there. The Hummer looks cool but the long battery charging times and GMs poor reputation on EVs are a huge turn off. The Cybertruck dares to go it's own direction in style and performance. It's no mud slinger but realistically so many 80k+ truck I see are road queens that barely see a mud puddle.
It looks like a jet fighter in the black!

I had no idea the Tesla truck could do well over 220mph and could lap the Ring well under 7 minutes. As well as set lap times on other circuit around the world. Great job Tesla, making a truck that's faster than most hyper sports cars.

Let’s see…didn’t comment on the outstanding audio. Didn’t show how the backseat folds to provide a huge amount of storage. Motorweek is the first outlet complaining about steer-by-wire. Why didn’t Motorweek show how it turns at slower and faster speeds? Why didn’t they explain how it can make a circle like a small car? Motorweek didn’t discuss the 48 volt architecture. Motorweek didn’t show how the camera system can show every area around the car while driving. Americans aren’t used to it. That’s what they use in Europe! Motorweek didn’t explain if you open the tonneau cover you can use the rear view mirror. They didn’t even say how well or not it did at braking. As usual this review was very one sided against Tesla. ❤❤❤

I'm not a fan of Tesla, but 2.6 seconds 0-60 is unheard of! Same for the 11.6 second quarter mile. Wonder how the brakes are?
They’re fine for daily use. I have a model s plaid and Tesla is cheap on brakes. Gotta upgrade for more than 3 seconds on track days unfortunately

I see them around my city in South Florida left and right. Most put wraps on them.
On the day this video was published, figures came out for U.S. Q3 2024 showing that the Cybertruck outsells EVERY EV NOT MADE BY TESLA. It's the #3 EV behind Tesla's Model Y and Model 3. And that was with the old, high pricing. Now that the base model is down to $80,000 (and $72,500 if you get the government's tax credit), sales are going to explode
