Phantom hits (aka Glancing blows) are a thing in Brawl, Sm4ash, and Ultimate as well but the damage and hitlag have been reduced to 0 making it a purely visual effect

Phantom hits (officially called "Glancing Blows" by Nintendo) actually occur in every smash title after Melee because the games use sphere's as hitboxes, in 64 they are cubes. They're more noticeable in melee because it still causes the freeze frames, effects, and damage while in other games they do not.
In later titles a glancing blow does no damage and is basically indistinguishable from a whiffed attack.

I hate that people are shamed for taunting because it's "disrespectful". It's a part of the game and a part of each character. Let people do what they want.
As a previous top Brawl Olimar player, that was indeed a glitch in Brawl that Shokio experienced around 14:30. I always called it at the time the 1/100 chance to just die as Olimar.

15:13 Squirtle perfect shielded Samus's charge shot on the first frame it came out. Because of this, the charge shot changed ownership, allowing Samus to just barely collide with it, losing the match.

I object to calling phantom hits bad luck. You could easily argue you're out of range but still get rewarded with damage. They are good luck XD
Butttt the hitboxes technically overlap so in any other game besides melee there wouldnt be a phantom hit it would be a normal hit thats why phantom hits are only a thing in melee

i think ik what happened at 13 mins in when you killed the marth. the ground you were standing on wasnt level, so you, yourself were angled upward, causing the hit to have a higher trajectory than usual

15:50 I think because when samus uses her charge shot it pushes her back a bit and has a delay before the shot actually fires and so because squirtle was behind her it pushed her into her own charge shot a few frames before it fired.

samus simply died since perfect shield an item or an attack with laser, bomb, arrow or other will get repelled.

Melee, a "competitive" game where less than half the roster is viable for winning tournaments and bugs /glitches in a match are acceptable, but only certain bugs and glitches mind you.

i can confirm that wario's waft kills himself in 4 and ultimate as well as brawl if he's too close to the top blast zone while rising up from the waft.
