  • It’s the Spring Bank Holiday and we take Herman to Graffham, West Sussex. Preparing for our Scotland trip we fit a new leisure battery. Graffham has an amazing dawn chorus which gives me an idea to go bird listening.

You leave a lot of 240V cable on your spool. Cracking video, fabulous location. Do you mind sharing it with us, please. Cheers AJ

Hi Alan, it's the Camping and Caravan Club site in Graffham. Here is a link www.campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk/campsites/uk/westsussex/petworth/graffham
Yeah, we don't bother unspooling the whole electric cable. We take off what we need. I know you're supposed to in case it gets hot or acts like an electromagnet - sounds far fetched to me

Alan Jackson I've noticed the reel etc. Unfortunately not far fetched, 'chatted' to a few people on forums who've had first hand experience with the cable overheating and catching fire. You can obviously work out whether the appliances being used at any one time may overload the cable etc but just easier, and safer, to unroll it all 👍

Hi Ads. We are putting our 1998 B544 into storage on Monday. I am going to disconnect the leisure and starter batteries to prevent drain and for safety purposes. It's currently stored elsewhere and will only get to see what's required to remove the seat on arrival. Off the top of your head, what tools are required to gain access? Many thanks.

Hi etansey, are you referring to removing the passenger seat to gain access to the leisure battery? If so, then I used a socket set to remove the four bolts holding the seat to the bottom. I can't remember what size of socket though. I think it was a 13mm but not 100%. Also, there is a 30 amp fuse near the LB just disconnect that rather than removing the terminals.
Do you have solar connected to the leisure battery? We keep our leisure battery connected and the solar panel keeps it charged and health.
      I hope this helps

@@HermanHitstheRoad Hi Ads,, Thanks for the tool spec info. I presume I have the same 30 amp fuse. We do have solar but will be storing our B544 indoors, rendering the solar ineffective. Raises another important question, should the solar panels be plugged out of the solar controller for indoor storage.? Great to have your channel with a fairly similar model for all that can go right and wrong. Thanks again,
      Eamonn.

The panels only work when there is light shining on them. So either cover them or put a room over them 😉🚐👍

Hello. Nice video. I am thinking about buying a Hymer, but i am concerned over it's winter capabilities. I live in the south of Sweden and usually the temp stays between -5 to +5 but ocassionally down to -10 and - 15. Now i am sure i would survive, but will the propan consumption be completely ridiculous? Are Hymers well insulated? This is the one: www.blocket.se/stockholm/Hymer_B_544__04_69721749.htm?ca=18&w=3#vi-carousel

Very nice Hymer. I believe Hymers are very good in the winter. They are well insulated and have a double floor. If you get refillable gas tanks then you don't have to worry too much about running out.
Check out the Classic Hymer Facebook group. There is loads of advice on there and very friendly. facebook.com/groups/classichymers/
