There are things I very much like about Alex’s filming as well. He has more time to think about great shots of the convent for example. While filming and trying to work on the convent, and care for his family…that is a lot to manage for one person.
I agree, but time was an issue. He can't do full time filming and even more time consuming editing if he wants to do all the other work there and to be with his family. They made is seem effortless and that's great, but reality is that he needs help with filming.
As much as I enjoy Alex’s filming/editing, it was nice seeing Billy’s “old style” again. Different styles but both very enjoyable. Had to laugh when Simon made the comments about Barbie convent and Barbie bones. He comes out with some real gems. Also, the Narnia closet was funny. Yannis is doing a great job and learning very quickly.
There is nothing wrong with your videos Billy!! In fact, I didn't realize til this vlog, a key ingredient to your videos is being able to hear and see the humorous interactions 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Billy, I have to say that your video making skills have really grown into quite a good narrator and videographer, like it or not, it's great and a pleasure to follow, I never get bored with each discovery and the constant bantering...not to mention you are becoming quite the builder...so much fun to be a part of this beautiful old convent restoration...thanks for sharing it with us all...!
I know it would be a lot of trouble, but what about maybe putting a window into the wall to show what the convent originally looked like. It’s so fascinating to see the craftsmanship from so long ago. Especially the wall by the small slats.
I am so happy to watch you today. Tampa Bay Florida preparing for a hurricane so this is a great distraction. Prayers and good thoughts for us on Tuesday as the storm approaches. Thanks all. See you on the other side.
Nothing wrong with the old style videos. I liked those too! Out local Cathedral has a similar shade of pink all over the walls. I am glad that you could save the cabinet, it is a cool thing to have in the room!
You look better today Billy, in Ryan's video yesterday you looked really tired, although it's lovely we are still getting our daily dose of The Pethericks please don't overdo it, I know you love working and keeping busy but you need to look after yourself. Thank you for continuing the videos without Alex though. Love to you, Gwen and the boys xxxx
Lovely to have Billy filming/editing again, but I know it means more work on the computer (and less time cracking on with other jobs). Fantastic to see the old Narnia wardrobe being repurposed, and the doors straight. “Barbie Convent” needs to be added to the list of ‘Simon Says’ 😀.
So glad you could save the old cupboard and with Simon’s expertise it’s even better. Whether it’s Alex, or you Billy making the videos they’re super enjoyable but with different styles. Your channel is the best because of you. xx
Barbie’s convent 😂🩷🤣🩷😂🩷🤣!! Disappointed at not finding Narnia, but it’s still a lovely closet. Awesome that you reintegrate historical features wherever you can. Any chance of seeing Simon’s roof? Thanks for taking us along!!
Much as I find Alex’s work excellent, this Billy, the BP format not padded with B roll and your vlog structure is what I love - I know you can’t do it all and you need to project manage but it’s fab to have an old format Billy vlog - well done
Billy, I have to give you props for the incredible patience you’ve shown in waiting for the windows. I think it must be your appreciation of artisan work. Still for the price, I’m surprised at the wait time.
Happy travels for Alex! I rather enjoy the variations in filming. You are a community that works because all sorts of different minds work together. The videos having that same aspect add a depth to the experience for me. A little wild & free whilst being productive & responsible ✌️💗😉
There was a theory years ago that bright pink helped calm people, children in particular. “Time out” rooms , in mental health facilities, were often painted bubblegum pink. That type room is just an empty room for people to be isolated if they were throwing a tantrum out of control , to calm down just for a few minutes, usually 5 min.
If you put me in a pink room, I would go nuts! As a little girl, people were always trying to make me "go pink". I was, and always have been a "blue girl". Pink, red, and orange are not my colours. I love the blues, greens, yellows, and a bit of purple. It is interesting how colour affects different people.
Those chicken bones, like old shoes, dead cats etc were included in buildings for good fortune, ward off evil spirits. There’s a university in England that is recording these types of finds from all over the world.
It would be great to have a display cabinet for all the ‘archeological’ finds to preserve the history. Or an art installation made out of them? Loving all the videos ❤
Not going to lie, am totally crushing on Simon. Long hair, intelligent, a love of history & preservation, loves renovation: perfect. Totally fangirling (if a 53 year old woman can fangirl!). I'm sure he's happily taken but I'd very much like a Simon to renovate with 😂😂. I'd also love to restore those oak cupbard doors, I do that kind of stuff for fun 😊
Unfortunately I'm not in France, I'm in the UK & I'm sure he can do better than me 🤣🤣. I restore furniture & read A LOT of books so I'm a pretty quiet sort. I'm never happier than with a sander in my hand, filler knife in the other or making stuff (usually in paint spattered clothes, so not very glamourous). He's so lovely though 🤣
It would be nice to find out how you and Simon met. What his origins are, how he came to be in France. Just some “bits and bobs” I appreciate his skills and knowledge……and sense of humor. Thank you Billy 🎉
In the opening scene, the convent looks so beautiful! You guys have done such an outstanding job! I loved hearing the church bells! Greetings from the US!
I think the leaning back door is so the doors self close. As they lean back they will want to swing shut. I will miss Simon when he goes, he's brought a whole new dimension to the videos and what a nice man.
😊 I think the old serving hatch doors are rather charming and might make an equally charming frontage for some sort of new storage whilst conserving yet another link to the history of the Convent.
As nice as Alex's videos are, I love the homey touch of the "old style" videos. The drone shots are a real treat and it's much easier to locate everything from that vantage point. Thank you so much for so generously sharing your process.
This is the most fascinating episode. Was that an original wall or put in later? That is a guichet. We had 2 in our monastery. The kitchen sisters pass the food through it and then the sisters on serving duty take the trays, etc. from there. It helps keep the noise down especially if someone is reading during meals. Ours were 2 windows like an ice cream stand window. We had to get rid of ours when we updated our refectory. I am not sure but given the room that cabinet might have been a "holding" cabinet for food coming from the refectory especially since the other side is the kitchen. It would have retained some warmth. Can't prove it, but just coming from experience. Usually the anti-room was for washing hands, food serving and such. Oh, yes! That pink is totally possible. I just had a whole hallway repainted. It was a pinkish color! I couldn't take it any longer! I had a good laugh at the "Barbie" convent!
Great drone shots Blly! Very interesting about the cupboard and the lath wall....probably best to take it all down to see what's going on behind. Great that you were able to keep the cupboard with the original beautiful doors. Very well done Simon and Billy!
The leaning door: old timers sue to do this kind of tricks since they did not have door closure; the reason of tilted door is so doors stays shut at all time.
The filming is great, you didn’t loss the feeling for it, how long do Simon stay, and interesting when and were did you meet Simon, he is really amazing, even learn Yannis the skills of plastering…respect.
The filming is great Billy. Most of us came to your videos during ‘old style’ and love them. Not to say we don’t appreciate what Alex does, because we sure do. Barbie Convent!?! Hysterical! 🤣😂
No matter the style of your videos, they are all great to watch and learn different things ! I also enjoy seeing the team work that is shown in your videos ! Shame the cupboard didn’t lead to Narnia’s pub you could have all had a celebratory beer !
Billy, you sound like your coming down with a cold, hope you can take it easy tonight. Great job today, filming was good and so glad that wall cupboard can remain in its original location.
Great job Billy with the video. Simon is teaching all of us the artform of restoration. What a genius. Pass through cabinet was probably used for prepared food for an individual or communion. These videos are fabulous! Thank you for sharing your journey with us.
Actually, Billy, I love your video work coupled with your choice of music--it's what first drew me to your channel. That being said, Alex does a fine job, and I enjoyed Ryan's work too. So blessed are you with talent all around you! Also, Simon and Yannis are a super team. Wardrobe to Narnia and Barbie Convent, gotta love it!
Great to see so much achieved today. It's great that you could save the original doors. Q....Just wanted to ask if there's a video of you al finishing Simon's roof? It'd be lovely to see the work complete.
I enjoy the historical building methods being uncovered... literally holding history in your hands with M&T joints 😍 wattle and daub & the old hardware. Billy, you are an excellent videographer, a seamless transition IMO. 👍
I am so happy that the wood and hardware were saved to be used again. Hate throwaway. I see no problem with your filming Billy; it's great! Another wonderful day at Pethericks. Thnx
I think it would be really nice if a square was left in the wall with plexiglass over it to allow people to see what the old stone and the lathe walls looked like.
So interesting to see the old construction and great job saving the old cupboard. Looking forward to watching this project. Great team-great job. 👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻
Billy you seem to have the best people as friends, Ryan is hilarious as well as very intelligent, Simon a master carpenter, yannis is a sponge soaking instruction from Simon. If the bedroom at the Chateau is painted love to see it. Billy your teaching Ryan valuable skills keep it up. Phillip is a good friend always willing to help. Enjoy your videos so much. Rural France is similar looking to the hills of Eastern Kentucky.
Professor Simon has out done himself again with his fascinating facts and information on historic plastering and building techniques, he needs to write a book. 😊
Billy, your filming is great and I enjoyed the epic music at the beginning. Good to see Simon and Yanis back at the convent. Did Simon complete his roof? I hope we get an update!
Someone has probably already commented, but the slope of the cupboard doors was to make them self-closing, so that they never stood open. The metal catch on the shelf would have been part of that set-up.
Looks like they used the kitchen rubbish to fill the bottom of the cupboard, hence the chicken bones. It was probably just food scraps, but usually places where they dumped stuff back then are good places to metal detect, if Simon wanted too metal detect it and it wasn't too much of a bother. Also, I hope ya'll got Simon's roof on Ok. I saw Phil's video of the surprise storm, and it didn't look finished. Hopefully, it's sorted. The cupboard is going to look amazing once its sandblasted. Its a shame that you have to cover up the stone wall though, is there any way to reveal maybe a part of it that would good?
Love the beautiful cupboard and that it's being saved and used again! So interesting to see how everything was made in the past ! Thanks Billy and the guys!
I loved the"Barbie pink." Not the color, but the saying, and Barbie bones, hillarious. Pink color was used a lot in the 60"s. Yes, it was also used to calm people. However, it irritated me. LOL. Simon and Billy, you have so much experience, and Yannis and Ryan are learning so much. You both are great teachers. ❤
Cupboard will be wonderful, goo save. Wish there was a way to keep some of the stone walls visible but it does have to be functional. Lovely space. Thanks.
Sorry that you have to come up all the walls. It would be nice to have one of the long walls exposed making the end walls a bit thicker to accommodate the the utilities between sections.
Alex is great at filming and so are you Billy, that's why you have so many views. No one can replace the relationship you and Ryan have. You two always make me laugh! Love how all of you have helped each other. Hope Simon's tarps held!! Let us know
💜 I appreciate how your goal is to refurbish, reuse, repurpose… everything you possibly can. IIncluding to the gardens. But I’m puzzled about the small rodent (?) bones in the concrete. Any idea as to why they would do that?
My thought is that a rodent had made a little home under the bottom shelf and that’s where it stayed until the bones were all that was left. Sorry if that is gruesome, but-I doubt anyone would deliberately put rat bones anywhere near the refectory or the kitchen. The rat probably was entrepreneurial!
When I see the drone footage of the convent courtyard now it is absolutely amazing. I remember the episode when the overgrowth was cleared and the cobblestones were revealed. So much hard work!
Billy,Yanis, and Simon my chateau restorers. Yes, it is wonderful you were able to save the original cupboard. Setting up for the stud work will be interesting. Until tomorrow. Take care and stay safe. Love ya 🍺🍺🍺❤️🙏🌹🕊👍😇🌞🌈🇺🇸
Billy, the quality of today's video is excellent! You are doing triple duty: "project manager," hands-on work, AND videographer. Beautiful content & editing. What about the rest of the bones?!?! Just curious. Really enjoyed seeing features of the original building. Maybe Barbie pink was left over from a painting of a saint, etc.? Definitely not St. Barbie. Blessings.
We love 'old style' filming don't you worry Billy 😊
Narnia my favorite word however the Barbie Covent comment took the cake...brilliant Simon! 🎉
Old style videos were great, they made me a faithful viewer. Billy is a man of many talents. I actually like Billy’s music choices better too.
Seriously impressive watching Simon remove that cabinet, frame in the new wall and then fit that cabinet right back in as if it was as easy as can be.
Yes I agree I feel Billy's intro is just so epic his choice of music combined with the drone footage sets the whole episode up. Love it ❤❤❤
Love your videos and music Billy. 🇦🇺

Great video. Billy, love the drone work.
Happy that the cupboard could be saved. 😊 Interesting wall construction, so glad Simon stopped to explain in his fabulous way!
Barbie.
Blessings.
Billy, your filming quality is high! And your choice of music is really good. Chicken bones!! HA!
