@Reuben Morris The banks handle it by forcing you to prove this isn't a scheme you're in on.
They treat you like you're the criminal, and not the person whose money they're using to generate money from thing air with fractional reserve banking.
People who've never been through these things think they just call their bank and explain the misunderstanding, and it's suddenly all good and their money comes back.

It is genuinely frustrating. I've been scammed out of $1,500 at a Walgreens in Minneapolis Minnesota. I literally asked the store if they can review the cameras to see the person who put the credit card scammer device over the authentic one then they refuse to even show me anything. Made a affidavit with Wells Fargo literally the next 48 hours I got all my money back because they got law enforcement involved and they found out who did it it was a store manager. So it's not always a customer that's doing it sometimes it's an inside job.

Not sure about card readers inside but could be possible for the skimmer to read the mag stripe even though only part of it is in there. Despite the card reader trying to read the chip; the skimmer overlaying it could be using the mag stripe information.

He claimed people who did that was to lazy to swipe it and put in their pin. And said that when people tap instead of swipe or use the chip they are charged more. He said that they are charged 10 cent more per gallon of gas if they tap the card bc it runs as credit.

We got trained to check the moneris machines frequently but trust me that it DOES happen and most employers aren’t aware

She's lucky she got anything back at all. The banks typically don't lose anything; some time. They only supply the card with her stored account number on the card. 7-11 has a card processor they deal with; typically First Data. First Data gets a notice from her bank about fraudulent charges, so they reimburse the bank, who puts the money back into her account. First Data doesn't want to lose money, so they charge her losses back to 7-11. So yeah, the bank didn't pay her anything, but 7-11 paid only what she had lost; excluding her time. This is one of the reasons they came out with the EMV (Europay, Mastercard, and Visa) chips on the cards. EBT cards typically don't have EMV chips, so it's easier to scam those people with the setup that was shown in the video.

Oh yes, the store being silent and uncooperative and the corporation giving a lame "we are professional we'd never do that" statement. So common nowadays. No one can ever just admit they are wrong until they're literally forced to. Disgusting, WE ALL know it was the store. Let's not pretend like you can walk up the counter at a gas station and install this device without anyone noticing or getting on camera. It was 100% an employee that did this.

Idk, I worked at a gas station and it was insane the amount of tasks you are given. I'd have to work alone and keep the store clean, empty trash, deal w customers, do lotto, restock, watch suspicious customers, etc. There are so many opportunities for someone to slip one of these on, especially lotto players that never leave the counter and stay for hours.

@Indygirl that was pretty much what happened locally a few years back with neighbors and literally everyone and their relative running that place at some point while the others had "gone on a fancy vacation for several weeks" on a store manager's salary. They weren't the brightest bunch and really weren't always sure when to shut up. Still took a long time for anyone to shut it down.

It can be done usually customers go in as a large group and distract the clerk with asking for something they have to reach for while the clerk is looking for the right cigarettes or whatever you asked for another person pops it on quick. Based off the workers reaction in the video she posted he looked guilty AF tho.
