Anytime I'm at my doctor's or having a test done and they ask if a student can be in the room, I always allow them. It's their way of learning(similar to when I did my student teaching) and my case with gastropraesis and other motility disorders is a tough one and this gives them great experience learning how best to treat me and/or handle my condition. So, awesome you're going to be a doctor, I wish you all the best of luck!
Yes! I do the same thing! The supervising doctor always ask so timidly too which concerns me to think that it means many people say “no.” They need to learn and get their bearings and they can’t do that without patients to work with. Some folks lack of insight can be so frustrating.
I enjoy your videos so much. I have worked on a CTU unit for 25 yrs and still learn something new almost every shift. I love that you included talking to the nurse as part of you day. Sadly many doctors don't include this in part of their day.
I am 21 & finally decided I want to become a surgeon! I felt like I was to late to do that but I’m so happy to hear you were also 21 when you realized you wanted to be a doctor! If you can do it, so can I! Love your channel btw😊
We got to get the kids to work and we got home we had some work done we had a lot going on and we got to work yuan and you got home and we got home 🏡 is the day yum 😋 we had the best weekend and the weather we got home and I had to work on a Saturday night and ttyy was the day us we got home 🏡 is that a great 👍 was just so I just had the
2 yrs late, but I’m amazed at how different residency is at another country. Where I’m training as a 1st yr resident, I have 20 patients to myself during office hours (7am to 4pm) then during the hand over until 7am the next day, I have 2 floors all to myself after which I am back to my usual 20 patients until 4pm until I hand it over to another resident for the next 15hrs. I never experienced talking with my seniors or a hospitalist regarding our plans for patient care. I always end up calling the attending if I need to do something for their patient which is kind of a hassle especially for late night issues.
I LOVE YOUr videos. I'm currently shadowing an internal medicine physician and it's amazing. The field is so broad and exciting. I hope that I can one day follow in your footsteps. Best of luck to you.
It's very cool to see things that when you are a patient don't realize all that went into your day leading up to seeing us. I think house and E.R were the only true repentensations of it . Thank you.
I spend a lot of time in hospital as a patient, and your vlogs really give a good insight to what happens behind the scenes. I'm in Australia, but I imagine the crux of it all is very similar!! Thank you for taking the time to make the videos and for sharing them with us all! Much love xx
As a patient who has been the one being taught over it was odd. It was neat but always felt as I was a tool and not included. I have a feeling your personality leads to patient ease.
Can you please make a video with a Physician Assistant if you guys have one in your hospital since it's relatively new in Canada compared to the states. Thank you!!
I want to get into internal medicine so very badly when I get to that stage in my life and your videos just make me so excited and hopeful for the future. Thank you
Haha this might be a weird question but whenever you’re asleep are you worried you won’t hear the pager? I’ve always wondered what would happen if a resident was a heavy sleeper and they didn’t hear their pager! Love your videos 💓☺️
I'm not her but as part of a medical team I usually try to nap at a very uncomfortable position, like sitting down or having 3 pillows on my head, so I could be easily waken up by slight noises. Basically, I'm just immobilizing my body and have some "rest."
Whenever we are "sleeping" during our shifts, we are actually in between the state of being awake and asleep. So basically any small noise will wake us up easily!
I watch your videos every Saturday religiously! Your videos highlight of my week!! I hope to go to med school so your vlogs are so motivational and informative, thanks for everything you do.
Yay!! You mentioned Speech- Language Pathology!! This is my profession and it’s highly overlooked!! Maybe make a collab video with an SLP!? It would be great to create more awareness for the field and see the SLP+MD collab experience 🤗 Love your videos!
Watching your videos makes me want to be a registered nurse even though I was thinking to apply to respiratory therapist program. I like how the physician thinks so I prefer Nursing. I need to study for the entrance exam and I haven’t started.
I've been binging your videos and can't get over how much you look like Sutton Foster! More on topic, I'm a health communication researcher, and I really appreciate this "inside look."
Would love to see a video where you talk about working with the allied health professionals! I'm a SLP student and quite keen on the idea of working in a hospital setting so I'd love to hear more about the work you do together 😄
You are so inspiring! I love watching your videos- they give me motivation to get my grades as high as possible and study for the GAMSAT (graduate admission test for medicine in Australia)! Thank you🙂
Hello Siobhan! I love the enthusiasm you have for medicine! With all the time you have invested in this field, do you still make time to play your violin?
I am a pharmacy student in BC and pharmacists here are definitely not considered allied health professionals, they are seen as a more intrinsic part of the healthcare team/system. Interesting how different roles are perceived in each province!!
nice to see a fellow muso in medicine... as one myself the things your brain does while learning and playing music is awesome training for future medicine. There is so much scientific research to prove this all well. yay for music in medicine! haha...and great name btw haha
Hi, I love your vids! Even though I have no intention of going to medical school myself, I still like watching your vids because you have such a positive attitude. I was wondering how you manage your personal life with such a busy schedule? What are your thoughts on having a relationship/family while in med school, residency, and beyond?
Possibly the hospital I'm always admitted to because of my GI issues but I'm not 100% sure. The hospital has a new side and an old side and fortunately, I'm always on the new side. The clips you showed look like the old side. However, a lot of hospitals look the same. It would be so cool to bump into you!
Was he describing TN? Trigeminal Neuralgia. Crazy. It’s so not widely known and yet our family has experienced it twice. My daughter. Bilateral. It’s awful. The worst pain ever. Love ❤️ your videos.
When do the "on calls" end for you? Once your residency is over, and you start practicing do you still have on call shifts, and are they still as frequent? 🤔
Karina Loveslucky I’m pretty sure it’s not as much for an internal medicine resident maybe more on calls for surgical or obgyn residents but I’m not sure
Steve Davis attendings usually come at 7 and off at 5ish. But they’re always staying later doing paperwork. I think the biggest difference is that they have 7 days in and 7 days off. While as residents we work the whole month
Jenny Le oh wow thank you very much for the info I’m a big fan of you and violinmd your videos are very informative. Another question what made me you guys decide to be internal medicine doctors?
Dr. Chakrabarti! Like in the show iZombie? ^_^ When I see your videos in my subscription box I get so excited! I find your days endlessly fascinating, so thanks for taking us with you & making these.
I’ve given permission a few times for students/residents to talk about an ill kid in the hospital, and been happy to be part of the learning process for doctors in training myself, too, a few times. Makes sense, it is in everyone’s best interest to have well-trained doctors!
@@justarandomgal2683 Oh, so the general (and legal) consensus that doctors are higher ranked than nurses does not exist! Damn, you got me. Alert the social justice warriors! Relax, personally, I don't mind a bit of an inferiority complex on a girl(... it's not gonna suck itself, you know!) although it does kill the hope for any serious relationship. Here's a free medical opinion: don't get too worked up over comments on the internet. Have the nurse help you with the paperwork.
I’m a big fan of your channel and videos! I love the behind the scenes take you give your viewers! Im also from Ontario and I am aspiring to be a physician. I was wondering if I could message you to ask you some questions about your journey and get some advice? Thanks!
femalesneakercollector I know the basic differences, I just like hearing more from someone who’s around them first hand. I’m trying to decide between the RN route to eventually get to NP or just going straight for PA.
Guy Archibald DO is essentially the same as MD in the sense that you’re a medical doctor. Different philosophies and slightly different training but both are physicians
I'd love to have this nice medicine students' educational programme in my country - because our students start work at hospitals from 3rd year at school, I think. (It's based on medicine students' community opinion.) This looks very interesting and helpful.
I had a med student on a virtual appointment with one of my specialists. She wanted the med student to learn about not only about my complex health conditions but who i am in-spite of it all.
I am curious. I just graduated with a music interdisciplinary studies degree and have grown very interested in the medical field. I plan on going into teaching (went through the entire music ed program except for student teaching) because that was my plan before I became ill. I deal with multiple chronic illnesses but am on the steady and/or upslope to having everything managed. Are there doctors who still work and have chronic illnesses themselves? If so then what is some advice for someone who has chronic illnesses, but is interested in the medical field?
I just came searching for you and what did I see? '19 seconds' ago last posted :o I love your videos. Keep it up! You have so much energy and motivation. I bet this is going to be another amazing video
How are you able to relax enough to fall asleep when on call? I feel like I would be so worried about the pager going off I would have trouble sleeping? 💕
I’ve thought about medical school a lot, what classes did you take after your music degree to be able to apply to the Medicine program you went to. I live in Canada and don’t really want to take the MCAT like you, but I don’t know what classes I need. What did you take? Thanks love your videos 💘
As an Anesthesiologist and new youtuber, this video makes me smile. It makes me remember medicine internship fondly. Blessings to you.

I enjoy your videos so much. I have worked on a CTU unit for 25 yrs and still learn something new almost every shift. I love that you included talking to the nurse as part of you day. Sadly many doctors don't include this in part of their day.
Mannnn, I always love seeing the notification of you posting! ❤️
Yay! Another video! I love seeing what’s going on behind the scenes, the things that us patients usually do see and understand.
Your energy just brightens my day! Your passion for medicine is sooo motivating! Thanks for doing what you’re doing!

I'm considering becoming an SLP and was so excited to see you mention it! I would love to see a video on it
You are so pretty. So kind. I love watching your videos! Please, never change!
So neat to see the behind the scenes. I swear your freckles are gorgeous!
This video is really cool to watch! I love a day in the life of a doctor! It’s really Interesting!
It's very cool to see things that when you are a patient don't realize all that went into your day leading up to seeing us. I think house and E.R were the only true repentensations of it . Thank you.
So how did you pick what type of residency you wanted to do ?
I just finished my medicine rotation and this makes me so nostalgic! I was thinking anesthesiology going in but I think I’ve been converted!
Girl, your voice relaxes me so much! Love watching your videos because of this.
Michal Zelenjakovic exactly it’s very soothing

Would you do a video more on medical school and studying and exams? Thanks!!
Would love to see a video where you talk about working with the allied health professionals! I'm a SLP student and quite keen on the idea of working in a hospital setting so I'd love to hear more about the work you do together 😄
Hi! Have you done an OBGYN rotation yet? That would be my favorite. Also how old are you? You look so young!
loved this!!!
I love your videos! I always learn so much from you, and you’re so approachable.
She's in an orchestra
More vlogs! Longer too! Awesome content. Keep up the good work!
Could you please make a vlog on any tips for prepping for med school interviews, how you prepared for it and your experience through it all? :)
Yeah sure I can do that! Are you in he states? When are Med school interviews?
I'm in Canada but I'll be applying to a few American and Canadian schools this year!
how did you complete all your prerequisites in time before applying to med school, since you were a music major? thanks for all the great vlogs!!
2 months of call?!! how could anyone survive that? (in case anyone thought what you do is easy....😏). great vlog, as usual.
I am a pharmacy student in BC and pharmacists here are definitely not considered allied health professionals, they are seen as a more intrinsic part of the healthcare team/system. Interesting how different roles are perceived in each province!!

That’s whah

Love this day in the life vids!
This vlog is so awesome!! I love it that it's so informative and i actually learn alot!!
Our inpatient hours are horrible! 5-7 for long call and 5-4 on short call. 6 days a week, no call ... so I guess the no call part of it is good 😑
Jenny Le I have a question for you as an internal medicine attending are the hours more normal than what I see for you guys as residents?
Steve Davis attendings usually come at 7 and off at 5ish. But they’re always staying later doing paperwork. I think the biggest difference is that they have 7 days in and 7 days off. While as residents we work the whole month
Wow 5am start?? That would be so draining!!
Jenny Le oh wow thank you very much for the info I’m a big fan of you and violinmd your videos are very informative. Another question what made me you guys decide to be internal medicine doctors?
Violin MD Question: Do u smile when u are pissed off?
I love internal medicine. They are the doctor’s doctor!
Yeah another video 😃😃😃😃😃😃😃
I just wanted you to ask which was your worst dream in call shift?
I love your T-shirt
Dr. Chakrabarti! Like in the show iZombie? ^_^

allied health professionals in my country --> Doctor, nurse and the stretcher!!
Loved all the WOMEN in your residency group! Nothing against the dudes of course 😉
I actually love it when I see male nurses. Nothing against female nurses. ^_^
And can work with both.
So, girls that ''LOVE'' female doctors and male nurses.... coincidence or inferiority complex?
michael Meier Just because you may think nursing is some lower profession, does not mean that others do.

Hey Siobhan, I noticed that you do a lot of teaching. Is this optional or a mandatory component of your residency program?
I totally understand the Uber thing. I’m very spoiled especially when I’m tired. How do you study 📖?

IT'S ACTUALLY DR. CHAKROBOROTY.
Can you do a video on the difference between MD, PA, and NP? I think that would be great.
Lexi Despaux PA and NP work under the MD. To be a NP you have to get a RN first. PA requirments are based off the school

do you ever encounter the surgeons? are they stuck up like television portrays them?
