The guy who starts the show is my uncle! He’s also the understudy for Josh and I got to see him play Sweeney back in September!! This is his first broadway show and we’re all so proud of him!!!
@@FatFiber8096 I have no idea. Usually they leave the Tony performaces up, but I think this past year CBS is making it propriatary. You have to go to their website to watch it and there are no clips on youtube except for the sizzle reels of the play nominees. Anything dealing with musicals is not being posted.
I love how she brings a bit of a ditzy crazy energy to lovett and when i saw Sutton, she had more of the old yucky desperate energy. i love watching how actors all portray characters so differently :’)
I thought I would have hated the show when the cast was announced and this performance actually is what piqued my interest. I loved the percussive choreography and wish they did more of this throughout the show and cast recordings.
'. You go out on that stage and do better then shit heads😂😂' Yes, because only a plumber can tell if the pipes are working or not, only a chef can tell one if a food tastes good or not, the job of the sommelier, is supreme and they actually can tell the difference betwixt cheap and expensive wines when tested (they cannot)
Would have been nice to see Josh. He cancelled on our matinee performance 1 hour before show time. But performed in the later show that evening. Guess he was up too late doing Jimmy Kimmel the night before. Daughter was very disappointed.
Josh was out with the flu for most of the week last week, and returned for the evening show last Saturday. I imagine he was in a hurry to get well in order to join Gaten for his final performance yesterday. Sorry to hear your daughter was disappointed, but I hope she and you still enjoyed the show. It’s an incredible production, and the entire 2023 company is terrific - especially the understudies.
He didn't "miss" his entrance. If you've seen videos, he's pulled forward from behind the chorus after being raised from the basement on a lift to stage level.
He didn’t miss his entrance. The sound engineer didn’t turn up his mic in time. You can hear his first line get louder as he walks to the front. It’s a new stage and sound system with little chance to rehearse at that location. It happens.
I think the story of Sweeney Todd is a wonderfully dark, drab pessimistic story and dancing just takes the seriousness and darkness out of it. It's just one of those stories that just doesn't lend itself to dancing.
Nah. I saw the show yesterday. The choreography and movement fits so well. The entire show feels dark, oppressive even at times. For example the movement during Joanna's song really lends a sense of foreboding claustrophobia/frantic desperation that I never really picked up from the character before. Absolutely fantastic performance start to finish.
I disagree with all my heart, when I went to see this show the thing that brought my attention when the show first started was the choreography, it’s deeply disturbing and gives even more strong meaning to the already insanely complex Sondheim score.
That seems like more of a camera work problem. I’m not gonna waste my time explaining this but while it’s not awful I think the camera angles/work affects the quality of the recording.
@@Sharpe1502 I wish I could agree. I think the story of Sweeney Todd is a wonderfully dark, drab pessimistic story and dancing just takes the seriousness and darkness out of it. It's just one of those stories that just doesn't lend itself to dancing.
@@antirealist - Your comment is proof you have not seen the revival. Nor do you understand how the choreography works. @MataHarisana123 The audience can't hear what they are saying, so unless you already know the story, the audience is lost the entire show. At least the audience I was with as we all agreed we couldn't hear what they were saying. We didn't know the story. I actually watched the movie the other day, and I can't believe how good this could have been. Also, the stage never changes. It's the same scene the entire time. It spins a bit, but the entire experience was very disappointing. I tried really hard not to fail sleep. I love Broadway shows, but I can't recommend this one.
@@RoadTripA1A Huh, I didn't have that problem and thought it was really good. Everyone articulated well for me, and I have a auditory processing disorder. I didn't mind the sets being a bit simple as it was a vocal powerhouse of a play

That's awesome! He has a great voice, I hope he gets bigger roles.
Congratulations to your uncle !! How incredible !!

I hope this version comes out on DVD
I saw this in November and was blown away by the performances. Josh and Annaleigh were simply fantastic
I foolishly didn’t know Annaleigh had such a beautiful voice until now!
i saw it in june in nyc !! it was wonderful
Agreed! Watched this last October as well. This prelude / opening song was amazing! The high caliber of their vocals was just unbelievable
Thank you for reposting this! I've been looking for it since the Tonys took it down.
Why did they take it down

the sopranos are delivering!!!! god i love how this score highlights each voice part so well
Fun fact: Josh Groban had a dog named Sweeney for 16 years. So it’s great he’s on Broadway now playing Sweeney Todd!
I saw this show 3 days ago before Josh groban and annaleigh ashford left and the whole cast was incredible and I 100% recommend this show!

Poor Josh is deserving of so many awards, I definitely felt like he got robbed of a Tony this year
He deserves all the awards
I hope he finally wins a Grammy this year for the cast recording. He still deserves it from 2004 😂
Ok but we need a full proshot of this…
YES I'm from Argentina so the only way to see the show is through a proshot

He lost to J Harrison Ghee for his performance in Some Like It Hot.
The Tonys were months ago, he didn’t win
I saw this live, it was incredible.

We just got back from seeing this. AMAZING!!!!!
god i love this show so much. and the choreo is rlly good too!!

This is just the Tony award performance unfortunately, I wish there were a proshot
Just saw the show fabulous 👌!!!!!
Hey me 2 !!! Incredible
This show is SO cool but I am SO sad I did not get into it sooner so that I could have seen Josh as Sweeney :(

Josh Groban played this role as a beast. Incredible. 😍❤️❤️❤️

Apart from the English accent exaggerations every single occasion from Mrs lovett, this play is fantastic !
Apart from Groban missing his entrance, well done. Oh, and that Sweeney looks like Abe Lincoln. But other than that, well done.
