Curiosity and Ophidian Eye will both combo you out, plus Kozilek and a discard outlet to stop you from milling yourself if you want. Also, this deck can totally win with Mind Over Matter if you have one. In more literal terms, Curse of the Swine makes a lot of Boar tokens. I call it the Baconator.
Recently played this with some upgrades. Had Niv Parun on the field, played Alhammerets Archive into Doublecast, into Fateful Showdown. First showdown resolved with 10 cards in hand, drew 20, second showdown resolved, drawing 40. Machine gun for 60 damage.
I’ve played curiosity, tandem lookout, ophidian eye and mind over matter in my Niv Mizzet firemind deck. After a year of that shinanigans I decided to take them out. While they are budget friendly, the deck draws a lot more heat from my friends if there are “infinite-win” combos in it. So it then becomes a race to see if a table can kill my budget deck before I go off. And usually they do lol.
I’m working on a Nekusar /Niv-Mizzet ping when you draw, ping when I draw Grixis deck, this deck is so similar to what I had in mind that it is a huge help! Thanks!
LOL imma just deck myself thx... Although if you're looking for a shuffle effect with some utility, Psychic Spiral is a really funny way to straight-up murder someone. Count your graveyard before shuffling it... target opponent just got milled for that many. You're welcome.
as an izzet enthusiast i LOVE this. its vastly different from my own Paruun deck but i think thats where the appeal is for me. im excited to build this
I play this NM deck regularly, and I might suggest a great new card. for $2 you can recur a delicious spell from your graveyard with just 2 blue mana. Mission Briefing is just a better Snapcaster in this deck. draw a card, ping something, recur a thing YUMMY and it's not 2 billion dollars to grab from your lgs. Add to upgrade list? YES PLEASE!
Keanebaconburger 1232 it’s 18 bucks for a copy, not worth it in the budget so devastation tide or rivers rebuke should keep it budget and do similar things
I love my Niv Deck- It used to be commanded by Adeliz but now she's in the 99. Just a couple tweeks to it and the decks really arent too different between wizard tribal and crazy card draw extravaganza.

Quick idea, if you need to attack someone (I don’t know maybe they have Shalai) add Adeliz the Cinder Wind, mostly every creature is a wizard (especially if you run docent of perfection) so you cast an instant or sorcery, get the triggers from whatever is on the board and then mostly everything Gaona +1/+1 until end of turn
Whirlpool Warrior is another great card along the lines of Whirlpool Drake. One less to cast with the same ETB, and instead of a death trigger it can sacrifice itself for one mana to do that to yourself AND your opponents to really mess them up. Jace's Archivist and Dragon Mage are both repeatable wheel effects. Along with them, about half of the creatures in the deck are wizards, so Azami, Lady of Scrolls could be a good include. And you've gotta get Teferi's Puzzle Box on that upgrade list! Card is hilarious, you'll rarely care about the specific cards in hand by the time it hits the table, able to work with whatever you have, while your opponents - especially those that like to play combo - will be floundering to find a way to deal with the situation so they can get back to playing.
Nekusar is one of my favorite commander decks to play, and this deck looks to have a lot of that same flavor to it. My commander group izzin't gonna see this one coming until its it's too late.
If you want to double up on mill win-cons, Sphinx's Tutelage is great. Sure, it targets one player at a time, but you can probably kill your one- and two-color opponents pretty quickly.
what i want to see you say? i like seeing commander deck techs (and games but hey can´t have everything). but if i am being honest what i wish to see the most is more of the color philosophy (especially excited about dimir and sultai as we are almost finshed with the 2 color pairings)

Nice deck, Wedge. I always see Izzet as the artificer colors. Hence I have Brudiclad and Jhoira WC. It is nice to see the other side of Izzet. Izzet playable? Lol.
Other suggestions for Izzet Removal: Reality Shift, Curse of the Swine, and Turn//Burn are pretty good at handling creatures. TBH Reality Shift is criminally underplayed in blue decks everywhere right now. Get one. Get several. It overperforms.
What about something to let you have no hand size? I mean even with all the flashback and jump starts its still kinda suck to discard ton of cards to hand rule, do you think its worth it? Or is it not enough of an issue?

It really depends on your local playgroup. It's moderately effective, but against the super competitive EDH (or cEDH as its commonly called) yeah, it'll not do well. But against most playgroups, it should do pretty good.
I was expecting to hear Zada, Hedron Grinder in this. ($0.17) Slip through Space ($0.09), Expedite ($0.09) and Renegade Tactics (0.07) can all give you draw for each creature you have and double if copied. Add Psychic Spiral ($0.17) to the mix to keep from decking out and mill an unwanted threat. (prices based on TCGPlayer)
This is the kind of weird things I do even though I have better options, Zada was a card I got early on and have been trying to find the full potential with. Chaos Warp-ing Zada does make interesting things happen.
My play group plays Thrasios, Narset, Nekusar. (All competitive) Question is can Niv go toe to toe with them? I want to build it but I feel its too slow against my playgroup? Thx.
I definitely think Niv can to an extent, there's a lot going for you based on those decks playing a lot of noncreature spells as is, and the built-in uncounterability is a big buff as well. You just gotta play the control player that holds back until somebody's about to pop off, and know WHEN to counter stuff!!!

This deck appears to have WAY too many payoffs for casting instants and sorceries and not enough of those spells within the deck. I built my own Niv Mizzit deck and you almost always need to draw an instant or sorcery spell off the top to continue drawing into more spells. I do know that my form of the deck was more stormy, but even in a non-storm deck, you need a surplus of spells. Also, when did wedge become the commander's quarters?

Despite doing damage off the trigger I feel like the Locust God is overall better, being the same cost, no commander tax and permanent damage on the board, I feel like Locust God is overall better than niv
I never liked this commander. UUURRR is really hard to get early so you're most likely waiting till turn 6 to cast niv, and assuming nobody removes it it only deals damage to one target, where in a multi player format is not great unless you can get an engine going somewhat quick. Yea its a budget edh deck but I don't see much success coming from here.... At least you can run rift though

@@94jetsfan firstly I realized my comment was slightly confusing, I don't play THIS deck, but I do play the commander. and you run good control spells, ramp, primarily in the form of Mana rocks and sometimes High Tide, and usually want to get one of the 3 Niv combo pieces(Ophidian Eye, Curiosity, Tandem Lookout) which go inifinite with him, and then play either another Niv, a Psychosis Crawler, or simply just a Lab Maniac to win the game. It's pretty fun, and while I can say it's not tier 1 because it CAN have consistency problems, as you mentioned, I rarely find myself unable to play my commander when I want/need to.
I built him with a different twist. The mana really isnt an issue with enough draw to pull out the mana you need. Mana rocks and gilded lotus are great. I built it with almost every redirect, spell copy, and decent counter spell I could find. The idea is you cast a kill spell I'll redirect it to your own creature, you make me sacrifice a creature I'll make you do the same. You cast a field wipe I counter. I sit and watch while controlling the game. My win is to eventually storm burn spells or copy somebody's win con.

Brain in a jar works really well in this deck too. I’m running it in my brew of niv mizzet parun and it’s helped out so much.

Given how much you draw in this deck, I'd include a thought vessel or reliquary tower so you're not forced to discard all the fire you just got :)

In addition to Learn From the Past, there’s also Psychic Spiral. It mills for a bunch late game and can often just finish an opponent off
